I have been hocking these knives for a year.
I find the QA to be pretty poor. 2/3 of them are absolutely glass smooth with great edges.
1/3 are a bit sticky and some have bad locks I have even seen a few slightly off grinds.
Love the product but the handmade charm is a bit lost when I am judging my customers on if I want to dig through boxs to find a good one or just sale them the one on top that might not be perfect.
am I alone or do these things have pretty wild very ability in quality for 200-600 dollar knives

You can't expect perfection from American knives in that price range.
If you want quality, you have to go Chinese.

Power leveling here but Lynn Thompson and his brother grew up extremely poor. He is an autistic robot for business but also happened to focus in on fun stuff. Sold his stake awhile ago and lives in California now. The QC is always hit or miss because their makers are always changing. The OKC run for their knives back in the day are legendary. The warranty is designed to help mitigate that and also partly why everything is overbuilt. Yes they sell mall ninja shit to placate normies but deep down there is a solid serviceable knife company down there.

I haven't found their QC to be that different from most other high-end knife manufacturers. The thing about knives is that unless you go all out for something special the quality will continue to vary wildly regardless of price. There are exceptions but true quality will often cost you significantly more than a Benchmade, especially if you want it made in the U.S. >>63934929 It was the Oregon City Police Department's policy they wouldn't profit off reselling firearms used in crimes, so they voluntold Benchmade to chop them up instead.

The QC really is all over the place with them. I have a bunch of BMs I bought before the drama, including a 484-1 that was something like $300, and the fit and finish are nowhere close to what they ought to be at that price point. I recently bought a $60 CRKT and it's put together nicer than some of the Benchmades I own, and they're nothing compared to the quality you get from Spyderco, ZT, or other production knives in their price range.

I also just think most of their current lineup is really boring. You get much nicer and cooler materials and locks for the same money from other companies.

Meh, made in the US (when the company isn't ran by some Leninist faggot gun grabber supporter) is ideal but I'm certainly not apposed knives made in Japan, Taiwan, or the Philippines either.

Actually that's why I really like Spyderco's website in particularly, they'll just straight up tell you where your individual products are from and you can even filter based off country of origin.

Yeah, so many great options these days. There's no excuse in supporting scumbag companies anymore.
I'm partial to Kershaw because I always felt that I was getting quality for the amount of money I was paying. ZT is also good.
And let's not forget that most of the blades these days are coming from China or Taiwan and are just getting assembled or scales getting slapped on in the US. So you might as well get a whole knife from there.

I avoid all companies that are not fully 2A or have little hat owners.

Benchmade was my first nice knife back in 1997 or so. They made some great stuff up until the early 2010's, then their quality started to slip as their prices started to climb.

These days, I struggle to think of company that is so consistently and hilariously overpriced with every single product they sell, especially for the (lack of) quality and materials.

Charging Chris Reeve or Microtech prices for knives that can't hang with generic $100 Chinese shit is beyond my understanding, but fudds and wannabe operators keep buying them and keeping their doors open.

I mean...Cold Steel is still a company, so maybe I'm completely out of touch with the market.

I bought a benchmade shootout and it broke within 3-4 months with absolute minimal use, although i was fidgeting with it a lot. The part i highlighted in pic related simply sheeted off, make from absolute tin metal. The warranty was nice though benchmade had it back to me within 2 weeks.

Iโ€™m just going to relegate this knife to one I carry on my runs and workouts since itโ€™s slim and lightweight, and I donโ€™t have to worry about banging it up like my MicroTech.

Meh, I prefer OKC. Fun fact poorfags can afford over priced knives too with a little bit of discipline and a lot of nights eating canned soup an tuna as well as the occasional bulk order of frozen meat to stuff in our chest freezers.

What version Osborne is that? I don't believe one from Benchmade exists with those characteristics.

Joke or not, honestly I think people underestimate Chinese production too much now-a-days because of anti China propaganda and home nation (USA) shilling and patriotism, but there are SOME good Chinese blades out there like some of the Taiwanese Spyderco's etc.

that said Bench made hate on /k/ seems to stim from something one of the BM guys said about 2A and less about the actually quality of the knives so I take critism of them here with a large grain of salt. If youre are or want to pay $200 yes the materials, grind, QA, CS better be good, but depending on your needs <$40 might work out just as well if not better.

My Gramps carries one of those every day too and loves it, said it's basically mine when he kicks the bucket along with his old Chevy truck which of course I'm hoping isn't any time soon because he's a cool guy but yeah he'll probably be around for a little while longer since he's in better health than some 20yr's I know.

I bought a benchmade 42 from a fake benchmade chinese site. It was $200 and I felt so stupid for falling for it. However, the knife is actually pretty good. I'm not a expert on knives, but it seems very solid. No rusting or shit tolerances. It did come with some weird blue anodizing in the handle holes, but I don't mind it. I've had it for a couple years now.

Big difference between the China people are talking about when they say "China" and Taiwan. (Get fucked CCP.) Taiwan is effectively a first world country and basically on par with Japan and South Korea for manufacturing these days - they still make some cheaper stuff but they're absolutely capable of Western-quality work when the customer wants to pay for it.

This; plus in Spyderco's case specifically, a lot (if not all) of their highest-end knives are the Taiwan-made ones.
