>>63934158 (OP)It's definitely not standard for every range, but I'm not surprised some do it either. Honestly, this isn't even any sort of special gun thing, it's everything. Convenience costs money, and the multiplier goes up depending on how captive an audience you've got. Airport food, the food in a movie theater, etc etc. It's supply&demand at work, warped to whatever degree local law and circumstances fucks you (or not). If you live in a fairly free state where you can have ammo shipped to your door, shoot innawoods all over the place, and/or have plenty of ranges in an easy drive, then good odds the range won't even offer anything at all except exotic stuff at some fancy ranges (or if they do rentals they might insist on their own ammo too just to avoid somebody putting a bubba round through a gun that isn't theirs). If you live in a shithole state with massive taxes and restrictions and limits then prices will go up accordingly.
Sounds like you're more the latter OP, in which case bummer. If you are in the former then why the fuck would you even go to a range like that, or alternatively who cares, you can bring endless ammo of your own cheap.
