Wait times average a week or so. The reason wait times were so shit originally was because applications were processed in the order they were received. Get someone in front of you that takes a month to sort out? Sucks to suck. IIRC a judge finally told the ATF to knock off the beuracratic bullshit and actually do the job of processing applications in a timely fashion, so they changed procedure to shunt delay/further investigation findings to the side and keep processing the queue as normal. That caused wait times to drop as low as 2-3 days at one point, but I think a week is pretty average now.
