What would you plan on using it for?

Those suits are way more comfortable than the rubber/plastic suits cus it's just a thick sweater, but they expire if not sealed, fallout dust leeches into them (becuase they're fabric), and their a one time use suit.

If you plan on using it for BC threats (Biological, Chemical) it won't fair that well especially against nerve agents, buts since they're thicker than most rubber suits they have more protection from Alpha radiation in theory, but with the downside that dust clings to it.

The worst that the Finnish military has to offer for it's reservists. M/91 camo suit, M/60 steel helmet, unmodded RK62, rubber boots by Nokia and the worst of the worst, M/60 LBE. Not fast to open, meant to hold everything from Mosin ammo, Suomi SMG mags, Sten mags, L-S/26 mags, DP27 mags and AK mags and holds nothing securely. On the rear you're supposed to have a bread bag, wool greatcoat on a roll and a shovel that folds once. Are these available, who knows. And for carrying other stuff, the Onion bag. A backpack resembeling German M/31 pack. (not in picture) The IFAK might be one CAT and one first aid dressing of some sort.
Anonymous No.63952199
Far better option to get during mobilization is M/85 LBE. It has padding and holds all you need to fight a WW3. Well, the mag pouch has 3 slots and is kinda tight. But you can carry more mags on the GP pouch. And if needed and you can get some, you can attach some extra pouches to it to make it even modern. On top of the rear pouches you can have a bag attached and there you can carry extra clothes like a overcoat or layers to put under your uniform or what ever you might need with you. Rest of your stuff you can carry in a M/85 "Ball" backpack. It's like if you took an ALICE pack and took the frame off and made it a bit worse. Still better than Veshmeshok...

At modern prices they're an object of historical significance rather than practical tactical gear, so the answer depends on your motivations. If you want the latter, new production vest rigs exist in that $200-300 range that bring more refined pouch designs and aren't going to have flaws like 25yo plastics, while the UK's PLCE assault vest or US ETLBV or FLC offer equivalent functionality to the SA kit but at prices expected of surplus gear.

It's both funny and sad, that you have this optimism. FDF skappari has posted this on twi- X, and that example pic is from official training info material, about how troops are to be outfitted with what FDF has in stock. That gear is something that will be given to reservists. The minimum for reservist is, told by army chief of war economy, M/62 suit, rain gear, rifle, a helmet, no-can-do's, and rubber boots. If you are the youngest and on the front lines, you get the best we have. The more rear you get placed, the less you get.

Say what you want, for a WWII vintage design it is pretty usable and there are atempts at military backpacks way worse than that. I mean, in Czech Army basic training they still issue vz. 85 packs AKA "the rabid linoleum" to cadets (or at least did so in late 2023).

It's a roughly TV-sized rectangular box made of thick vinyl-coated material with no frame, no pockets and no shoulder straps - you are supposed to hook it onto vz.85 suspenders, which are nothing but simplified German WWII Y-straps made of green synthetic webbing and equipped with not just 1, but 2 buckles positioned right against your spine. "Easy to decontaminate" is the one and only redeeming feature of that thing.

Cotton with leather parts is not good for CBRN, that's for sure. You have to think when you fill it up, as there is no back cushion, not even a slot for a sleeping pad like the Czech M/60 has. Overfill it, and it's like a ball on your back. The straps are nice-ish and wide, but not good to fastly fit for you back, like more modern packs have. And I don't like how the main flap is closed down with one strap, it feels better to have two. But bonus points for being able to continue the closing strap with issue 55cm leather straps, you use to attach your backup boots to the sides and sleeping mat on the bottom. And your mess kit to your bread bag, your greatcoat to your LBE and your AK mag to your gun, so that you don't loose it. Thank God for straps. Funny thing is, that you had 6 straps issued to you, but you need at least 10, maybe 12 if you had everything on.

It is better than some and worse than some. It works. I've seen some oldtimers still use it sometimes, but most have used it last in service in early 2000's.

Here's all the medical a chicom can hold using only one grenade pouch, one shoulder strap and a duct tape "map pouch" on the backside.
From left to right. (Everything stored in grenade pouch unless otherwise noted)
>medical sheers
>triangle bandage
>survival blankie
>mini sharpie
>hyfin twin chest seal pack ("map pouch")
>NPA (duct taped to chest seals and stored in "map pouch")
>gloves
>antiseptic towelette
>tylenol pack
>3' duct tape flat rolled on an old gift card
>2 packs of compressed gauze
>CATQ (on shoulder strap)
A compression bandage will easily fill a whole grenade pouch. The flat rolled duct tape and triangle bandage are there to substitute. Ace wrap is also good but bulkier and less versatile than a compressed triangle bandage.
It's tight and a few weeks of stretching may be necessary to cram it all in. All rectangular items are placed in the grenade pouch as you would imagine with the medical sheers stuffed in the back sticking out and gloves held down by grenade pouch flap and extra plastic from gauze. Minie sharpie and other small items stuffed at the sides.
Pulling on the extra gauze packet's plastic folded under the grenade pouch flap will extract most everything from the tightly packed grenade pouch fairly quickly.

In hindsight it's crazy how long equipment from WW2 stuck around, especially the heavy equipment. 1960-1975 half the Dutch army were essentially USGIs, right down to the venerable Shermans. A very, very good thing that the height of the USSR coincided with the superpowers being distracted with each other in Vietnam.

I'm still adjusting it and getting it right, but so far I like the ATAPS, I have it connected to an Eagle padded H harness and MAP pack with ITW nexus buckles nigger rigged together. There's probably a better way to do it I'm sure.
