to grip or not to grip

I keep trying to use vertical grips, but every time I keep reverting to just taking it off. I tried the magpul MVG, and hated it so much. I was using a seekins sp3rv3 rail on a long gun at the time. the flat bottom on those rails is amazing and makes it super easy to lay over shit to stabilize the gun, unfortunately they dont make shorter versions so when I got my 11.5 I just use a mcmr, and tried the bcm 89 degree gunfighter thing, and its great for controling recoil and comfy to access my tapeswitch for my light/laser, but when it comes to actually taking accurate shots i find it hard to balance the gun for longer shots. when I am shooting [redacted] the gun gets really hot and I grip my whole hand on the vertical girp, but if I just wear a glove i dont even need it.

Why are vertical grips so popular despite not really adding much utility? there has to be something im missing, right? are these just a fad that wont die?

my current setup is similar to picrel, but I have a bcm on it and might take it off

On paper that should be a pretty well gassed upper, surprised you're having issues. Are you using a reduced port BRT gas tube or something?

Just a white label lower I put together. The cam pin is a little stiff but nothing else out of the ordinary. Probably just a heavy buffer spring. I'm getting brass markings on the deflector at the very tip

Figured this would be one of the best places to ask. I recently build a rifle and have extreme difficulty pushing the rear takedown pin in and out to the point i need a hammer and punch to do so. The pin will slide in (with some force) to roughly the end of the upper's hole but won't move into the other side of the lower. I think the upper is just barely canted to the right and that's what's impeding it.
It's a major pain since I have the cucked lower deluxe with a permanently installed mag forcing me to open the thing up to reload unless I want to drill out a mag catch myself. Any suggestions on fixing this? Maybe sanding the pinhole on the upper or lower?

Fakecog TA31s work well because the fiber optic is reliable if assembled correctly, which most seem to be. TA02s don't work as well because their electronics always fail. You can almost always bet the chinks are gonna skimp out on the electronics and they always do. I had one and it ate batteries in a day whether it was on or off. Eventually they will fail altogether. You also have to be weary of reticle rotation which happens on all models of fakecogs. I don't really recommend a TA02, stick with the fake TA31s

I am doing a study for GQ on preferred AR15 barrel lengths on /k/. You may have several barrel lengths you like equally, and that is fine, but unfortunately you have to pick ONE. This study is based solely off of what people like, and nothing else, how you decide is up to you. If you have a barrel length that is extremely close, but not quite the same as one listed, please just select that barrel length, and bitch about how your 10.542069" barrel wasn't listed in the thread. If you have something that is not close enough to one of the listed lengths and is truly contrarian, please select other and specify. The end result will be posted in 48 hours in the GQ thread.

Hit them harder. Do you have an FSB bench block (or a piece of wood in the appropriate shape) to rest the FSB on? Use a 5lb hammer and a good punch. If you have a press you can use that in combination with an FSB bench block as well

The penetrating oil really won't do much beyond a few hours of soaking, it really doesn't have to be left long. Only time you need to let a solvent sit like that is with incredibly hard materials
Anonymous No.63952610 >>63952620
>>63952587
You only need penetrating oil to bust thru rust, there's no point unless the FSB in question has been sitting in a swap. Also don't hear the pins, that'll just make them tighter (although heat cycling can be useful, you need to wait and let them cool down), you would have better luck hearing the FSB itself.
>>63952566
Oh yeah, and use one of those punches with a concave tip to avoid mushrooming out the pins
Anonymous No.63952611 >>63952626

To add to this: much of the penetrating oil will evaporate from the tight critical areas you want them to soak in with that timeframe because of their volatility

It doesn't matter cause oil won't do anything. The clearances are already so tight between the gas block and barrel it's not like there will be any rust there (unless the rest of the barrel is already visibly rusty).

no those are the opposite (have a convex tip for staying seated on roll pins). You want a concave tipped. Something like this:
https://ads.gunmagwarehouse.com/grace-usa-starter-short-pin-punch-set.html
Starter punches are great for FSB removal in general, as you can hit them a lot harder without bending.
>>63952637
and obviously the punches need to be a harder material than the pins, so get steel not brass or other "non marring" types

Taper pins are just that, taper pins. Basically smashed into place so there's practically no gap for lubrication to ingress in the first place. And since they're tapered, once you get it knocked loose just that tiny bit it's easy peasy to get the rest of the way out and the extra lubrication doesnt really matter.

Yes, but I mean you should still have enough space to get the clip on it. If there wasn't space for it then the clip wouldn't have stayed on in the first place. Just push the rod as far forward as possible (such that it's butted to the handguard)
>I want you to be right
