Hi, /k/

I'm currently developing a first person shooter (not going to panegyric too much about it since that'd be shilling), but I have no interest in using the 1911+glawk+ar+mossberg boilerplate most devs rely on. Recommend me some weird and cool guns you'd like to see get more love.

Not required, but bonus points, if they fit in any of these categories:
> 3D printed
> Hand-made (in the khyber pass way or the PoopMadness way, your pick)
> Chimera'd or workshopped in any severe way
> WWI era or earlier
> Never went into serial production
> You own one and don't care if I use your photograph as a base for the texture

And additional bonus points if they fit any of the following roles I'm trying to fill:
> Bolt action rifle, ideally straight-pull but IDRC
> Full-sized carbine in .22
> Single stack pistol
> Single-shot rifle, preferably in a rimmed cartridge
> Wood-furnished midcentury battle rifle
> Machine gun that is not mag-fed

To help the thread get started, I'll dump a few of the guns I've already modeled.

Forgot to mention, opic is the fcg-9 for those who haven't been brave enough to lurk the 3dpg threads.

Next up is the bergther g5p, which I've kitbashed from the bergmann no. 5 and the walther gsp since I couldn't decide which one I liked more.

I have an extreme boner for the Y22H Compact, a 3D printed 22lr pistol that requires no actual firearm parts to make if you know a bit about metalworking.

It needs to be explained better. In what world are 3d printed weapons being used alongside kyber pass and pre-WWI guns? If 3D printing tech exists why do more modern guns not? If 3D printers exist why are people fucking with Khyber pass guns? I'm not asking these questions to criticize you, I'm asking them because without that information all we can do is guess and give is random suggestions.

more of a marksmans rifle but here's my chud babygirl raifuru, the konstantinov
was in the same marksmans rifle competition as the SVD, uses SVD mags because dragunov liked the guy
as you can see the inline stock made it very interesting but it was rejected because the recoil would cause said stock to smack into the shooter's cheek during firing. this isn't an issue with videogames though, and it also looks cool as fuck.
if the cheek rest is actually really bugging you idk just mod the design to have a leather cheek rest or some shit

NTA, but large-scale manufacturing could be gone, leaving people to create firearms from scratch. Some have access to hand drills and a fileset, and a few lucky ones have access to old 3D printers and machines that can recycle plastic into filament.

I mean, shiet, in Kenshi sentient robots hack each other apart with fuckhueg swords. It's vidya, I ain't gotta explain shit.

The setting is me training neural networks to shoot several mechanically different kinds of guns and then seeing how well they fare against a human opponent, so there really isn't any kind of setting. I specifically want guns that aren't mil-spec and are at least visually interesting, since I'm also the poor fucker who has to spend 4+ hours texturing and modelling them.

The how and why would be useful to know, that way we could suggest guns that better fit the game's theme.

>It's vidya, I ain't gotta explain shit.
Again, I'm not questioning the realism, I'm asking to learn more about the game so I can give good suggestions that match the game's theme and feel instead of just making random suggestions.

3d printing would never be useful in such a scenario. You can make a better gun with hand files, which you would already have in the low tech machine shop where you made your barrels. Hell, a slam fire shotgun made from 2 lengths of pipe and a nail would be better. Even ye olde handgonne + a lighter would probably be better.

Unless you think 3d printing a lower magically autocompletes the rest of the gun and adds 500 rounds to your inventory.

Yeah because in the apocalyptic wasteland of Myanmar all manufacturing has broken down. Thatโ€™s why they actually use fgc-9โ€™s instead of the AKs you see them use in every single combat video they post. Because the main use case of a gun that isnโ€™t tracked by the government is for a situation in which there is effectively no government.

I have been systematically saving the weird/interesting gun threads for a bit now. For the most part, it's the same shortlist of guns time and again. The really fresh stuff takes some research to dig up. If one thing you want from your game is to avoid guns other games use, I would actually filter the most common "weird gun" reccs as they're often over represented in vidya (gamedevs often try to be a bit hipster about it). Basically, either go full autismo or commit to adding things purely based on what you like.

> Hand-made (in the khyber pass way or the PoopMadness way, your pick)
> Chimera'd or workshopped in any severe way

Fairfax Firearms custom makes revolver rifles from Redhawks, Single Sixes, BFRs, and replica Schofields

> WWI era or earlier
> Never went into serial production
> You own one and don't care if I use your photograph as a base for the texture

I was going to make a rifle out of an S&W 327 R8 but I'd rather just get another gun.

> Bolt action rifle, ideally straight-pull but IDRC

There was a modern straight pull bolt in 5.56 I was going to get, but a Schmidt-Rubin is straight pull, and kinda old.

> Full-sized carbine in .22

Keltec has something like that. I use a Savage A22 in 22 WMR

> Single stack pistol

Read: 1911

> Single-shot rifle, preferably in a rimmed cartridge

I have a Baikal IZ94 thanks to /k but chambered in 223 Rem. Just mod it to take 7.62 x54R and 12 Gauge (it's a videogame, start being creative, you fuck)

> Wood-furnished midcentury battle rifle

I got an old Mosin but replaced the stock with a polymer one.

> Machine gun that is not mag-fed

Tippmann ordinance gatling gun or their 22LR replica of the M2 Browning (belt fed, requires a stamp)

I got a Mossberg Aftershock, but not sure how that translates into a game.

You can try programming a revolver shotgun that uses a variety of ammo: buckshot, slug, non-lethal / marking (if you're going for an Urban Chaos Riot Response game), magnum penetrators, incendiary/WP, garlic infused blessed silver (Vampire Masquerade/ Deus Ex setting), tracer.

Take a look at Mongo's attacks from Survival Arts if you want some game-related gun attacks.

I have 2 suggestions, both quite similar.

1) ArmWest MGX. A constant recoil mag-fed machine gun. Constant recoil means the bolt never impacts the back of the receiver, so there is no sudden jolt hitting the shooterโ€™s shoulder. The recoil thus feels like a constant push back, making the gun far more controllable and accurate in automatic fire. This satisfies the 5th criteria in the first green text - never made it into mass production. AFAIK there are only 2 examples in existence.

Here is a video of it being fired:
https://youtu.be/mjalVs-pAr8?si=j2NPY_z-w0N6fRP3

Suggestion #2 is the KAC AMG or LAMG. 308 and 5.56 machineguns, respectively. Both use the constant recoil principle, but these are bona-fide machine guns and feed from a belt. Satisfies creteria #6 in the 2nd green text - machine gun that is not mag-fed.

Picrel is the KAC AMG (or LAMG, I canโ€™t tell, they look similar)

Are machine pistols viable in video games? Because they are not viable IRL. You can take some liberties though in fiction and โ€œdesignโ€ a controllable machine pistol in 5.7 feeding from like a 70 round drum, blinged out with recoil-reducing accessories (gas pedal, compensator). That would be pretty sick. Give it a fixed red dot as well and a live round counter right there in the optic window.

The textron rifle must obviously fire the same 6.8 EPR bullet the army supplied to the contestโ€™s participants, right? And at the stated velocity? So itโ€™s basically just 6.8x51 once it leaves the barrel. So in the video game, one could carry more ammo than a comparable conventional case 308-sized gun, and would have sick range and penetration (or damage, whatever).

OP, what about unusual/obscure cartridges and chamberings? Is this a visible element in the game at all? If it is, I have some ideas, some serious, some meme (eargesplitten loudenboomer)

I just want a couple CoD entries to give us the CoD 3/4/World at War experience in various brushfire wars of the Cold War. Black Ops seems like a great way to do that if you don't have the balls to go back to the old days of nameless local grunt protag caught up in events far beyond his meager existence.

Black Ops 2 had flashes of this, shame it had to waste so much of its story on the gay love triangle between Menendez, Woods, and Mason, along with hinting but not actually doing much with Cold War 2: Chicom Boogaloo.

3D printed guns always seemed like a naive idea to me because the things it primarily relies on like plastic and 3D printers could be easily legislated away or needing a license for like they are trying in the UK and New York. While things like hand tools and sheet metal are either a lot harder or impossible to legislate or being so widespread it doesn't even matter.

Savage Model 1899. I own one and I love it. Was grandpa's durr rifle before I inherited it.
>mine's in .300 Savage (designed as a compromise between .308Win and .30-06)
>lever action
>internal rotary mag allows for full sized rifle caliber and spitzer bullets
>built in ammo counter (tiny window on left side of receiver)

Remington Model 8 in .32 Rem. Another rifle I inherited from grandpa.
>model 8 produced from 1911 - 1936
>semi-automatic, long recoil operation (barrel and bolt both move backwards after firing, separate, spring in barrel shroud brings barrel back forward, recoil spring behind bolt feeds fresh round into battery)
>police/military versions included a 10-15rnd detachable box mag.
>pretty obvious inspiration for Kalashnikov

Sweet. Like the Buc-ees-ed logo you put on the stock.

Now, I know Fallout 4 is considered a downgrade, but you think it's possible to have picrel as an option for the stock?

How could they possibly legislate away 3d printers? It's a collection of belts and stepper motors with a couple of microcontrollers. If filament ever gets banned you'll see pellet machines finally take off.

I suspect anon fears bans of the machines themselves, not their component parts. I further suspect he has little confidence in the technical abilities of most people being sufficient to DIY their own 3D printer. That may be projection, I'm no expert.

I respect 3D/fosscad designers for trying to make gun control harder and making DIY easier for the average person. I just think that 3D printed designs are more susceptible to things like printer legislation, like in Canada where they are trying to push legislation to force 3D printer manufacturers to make it so printers wont print fosscad related designs. That wont stop a more knowledge person, because as you said; they could just build their own printer from components but to the average person who most likely just follows a print settings guide online and buys commercial printers off the shelf it will become a lot harder for them. People putting more effort into coming up with more easier and efficient designs that use hand and tools that almost anyone could get or have on hand would make it harder for governments to stop DIY guns, in my opinion.

It's a lot easier to DIY a 3d printer than to DIY a firearm. Hell, even if printers were banned you could probably still buy any of the kits as an "80%" sort of situation.

KS-23, because I am obligated to suggest it out of my autistic obsession with it.
>does that really count?
Some drunk slavs took a bunch of failed AA cannon barrels and thought "Da, this will work" then rigged an upscaled shotgun frame to it and called it a "riot suppression device".
Holds 4 massive shells that come in BIG SLUG, buckshot, tear gas, rubber/plastic, and even muzzle grenade launcher flavors.
It's the deagle of the shotgun world.
