I'm planning on getting a jack in september as a birthday present for myself, but I'm wondering if I should get one in 7.62x39 or 5.56.
I would like one in 7.62x39 but that ammo has gotten expensive and I like shooting my guns, so I was thinking about getting picrel. It would also be nice since the mags would fit easier in my rig.
Only thing is they apparently don't have cold hammer forged barrels, they have Nitride barrels which I have heard aren't as good as the latter.
Is this something I should get hung up on or does it not really matter.

It's probably going to be your only AK, so you might as well have the most available least expensive mags.
Even if you're getting into a new caliber, it'll be worth it even if you don't end up really getting into AKs.

The receiver is milled so you’ll need to take that into consideration when buying furniture for it etc. As for an underfolder that’s your call. I like my SF because I can get a good cheek weld on it and as a taller anon the stock is longer which makes for a comfy length of pull.

M90 and M77 are done. Added the correct flash hiders, reduced gas regulator for suppression, 3/5x acss prism optics. Gonna get the correct gas block pressed onto my M70 and I’ll be SBRing an M92 and an M85 into underfolders soon.

Nothing to do with it being corrosive. Corrosive primers are typically Berdan types with two flame holes but there's a lot of non-corrosive Berdan around and it works just as well. Lasting forever is a matter of sealing and I fired off commercial Boxer primed ammo from the 70's a couple of months ago just fine anyway

It can be done, but Berdan is meh for reloading. You can see which it is by looking inside the case. The reloading press has a mouth widening rod that dinks out the Boxer primer with the same move and with Berdan it hits the case head and doesn't work.

I did some more reading, and I think the M70B1 is correct. M70B1 had the 1.5mm receiver (same as OPAP) for grenade launching. I think Zastava might have thinned the receiver thickness on the M70B3 when they switched to underbarrel. I could be wrong though its hard to find a good source on receiver thickness. Lemme know if you find a good source, it soothes my Yugo autism.

I have both. The Beryl is $400 more expensive than the M90 because its a better weapon. Combat proven, more accurate, more reliable, better mag compatibility, and its lighter.

You wouldn’t be able to test it with just the KAK mount. You’d have to thread the mount on along with your silencer to see if a bore alignment rod touches the endcap. Really I wouldn’t buy a Draco if you’re counting on it being a good suppressor host. It’s basically a 50/50 chance with any factory AK. The only surefire ways to get good barrel concentricity are to either pony up for a semi-custom build from a reputable gunsmith, or just buy a Galil ACE (but of course you should always check with an alignment rod just to be safe).

i'd say PSA ak's are fine as long as you autisticly inspect it before you sign the paperwork. one you sign it its your gun and used. order rifle, check rivets, check fsb and sight block for cant. turn rifle face down on sights and check they are squared up or at least close enough to your autistic liking, make sure to check the gas block too, the sights can be 100% and the gas block can be off center too. usually not an issue but it does make the carrier bind and torque a little and if you were to install a rail or ultimak it could be in issue. inspect the carrier for shit machining or abnormal wear (ie paint missing)
we did this even on new arsenal sgl and slr rifles. if you do all this and it fails just reject it and send it back for a refund or replacement, once you sign the 4473 you're fucked and its your baby then you get to play the customer service/ups/oem/ups/ffl game ad nauseam until they tell "nyet rifle is in spec, good day comrade"

Dracos are really cheap right now. The prices on M92s are going up due to the Serbian export pause and tariffs, so I might snag one of those from my local shop soon if they still have any on the rack. Really those shorter lengths are the way to go since fullsize 16" AKs are so much heavier and more unwieldy. I wouldn't go under 10", but the M92 and original Draco are fine.

Dumb question. I can't provide any pics at the moment since I'm on vacation and seeing this thread just made me remember. I'm not really an AK guy but I impulse bought a Saiga AKM. There are little rubber rivets in the gun instead of metal, and they were kind of degraded so I pulled them out. They weren't holding anything in, just plugging receover holes close to where the stock is. I can't seem to find any replacements, is there any increased risk of damage from shit getting in?
