>The UK plans to replace its aging Land Rover Defender-based fleet under a sweeping modernization effort, with 1,400 vehicles across 12 categories to be fielded between 2027 and 2033. The tender, scheduled for release on December 1, has drawn global attention from established players in the defense automotive sector.

>According to South Korean defense officials quoted by Hankyung TV, the UK invited Kia and other manufacturers earlier this year to submit bids for the program.

>โ€œKia is expected to participate with its KLTV, often referred to as the โ€˜Korean Humvee,โ€™โ€ a South Korean military source told the broadcaster.

>The KLTV, officially designated K151, has already gained traction in international markets, with recent deliveries to Poland, Chile, Nigeria, Mali, and Turkmenistan. In 2023, Kia signed a $310 million deal to supply 400 KLTVs to Poland, signaling the companyโ€™s growing footprint in Europeโ€™s defense sector.

>A Kia spokesperson told Hankyung TV, โ€œAt this time, nothing has been finalized.โ€ However, the company plans to showcase its KLTV at the DSEI 2025 international defense exhibition in London this September, in what industry analysts see as a strong indication of its intention to compete aggressively for the UK tender.

Thanks to the US abandoning JLTV platform, Kia is stepping up its game in the armored vehicle market. The irony.

They still use the fucking land rover? Literal 1950s tech. I once got a ride in one over rough ground, felt like literal jailcell assrape, its like those things have no suspension and seats made out of fucking milk crates.

Mexico selected a localized variant of it as their new standard armored utility vehicle last year and have a few hundred already. Only difference is armor package, probably local production Plasan kit and the Mexican versions have a Mercedes engine. 50/50 chance US will probably be drone striking them in a few months by the dozens so you'll be able to see if they're good vehicles.

Legitimately insane decision. You wouldn't even need to train most recruits on how to service a Land Cruiser cause they'd probably already know from having driven their own.

>See the quartermaster drive into a tree out field, dents the bull bar in, ties the winch around the tree and pulls the bull bar back out into place, nobody the wiser
>See my mate crash into a tree near the same place on the next exercise, warps the chasis but drives it back anyway, towed and later declared not fixable
>Night time convoy drive to outflank OPFOR, convoy commander next to me as I drive him and lead 20 vehicles, flooring it through a narrow bush track, almost crash into a tree but I swerve the shit out of it last second, look across at him, he just says "Keep this fucking convoy moving, cunt!" Kek at the third one, exact same type of attitude my boss had. I reckon I've seen him run over at least 5 kangaroos and 2 emus during my time there because he's adamantly against ever swerving on the road (same reason why I rammed that Steer- couldn't go left or right on the bush track so I just let Jesus take the wheel)
I'm actually not ADF myself, just worked as a Jackeroo out in western QLD so I have no army anecdotes to share.

If they're smart they'll include "build in britain" clause and to accommodate local manufacturers in the supply chain

Monaco is rich because wealthy people moved their money there for the tax haven they offer, they didn't make their money in Monaco. lol

The trick that these tax haven cities like Monaco, Swiss, Singapore, Hong Kong, etc. all use is that you have to do things like buy a home there, and most will force you to invest a large sum of money in their financial institutions in order to get the tax break to legally work thus the returns they collect off those investments is how these countries/citystates make their money. Its basically a government backed investment bank that you deposit your hard earned/stolen/inherited money into and they make money off the interest.

The thing is every country is making their own version of this so due to competition its going to get shitty for a lot of these existing cities/countries who make most their wealth via these means.

It's not just taxes tough. Those place cater to the wealthy by providing them the services they desire. A safe, stable environment with high end retail, hospitality, healthcare, airports that cater to private travel ect.
pure tax havens like the virgin islands don't have a large community of the wealthy living there, those countries do.

JLTV needed to be abandoned. It was shit. Its entire purpose for existing was to counter IEDs, and with the proliferation of EFPs, it couldn't even do that. It didn't have the electrical output to mount enough equipment to have layered defense or proper interoperability with the battlefield network, and then the British answer would be to just tote a generator around. At that point you go with light trucks and forgoe all the dead weight of useless armor. The truth is, it doesn't fit doctrine, and it has no legs into the future. It was just a shittier more cramped MATV with less everything, and the MATV was just a shittier more cramped MRAP.
