I'm not in the military, but my husband is. I don't know where else to ask this question besides reddit, which will give me responses that are strictly legal in nature and not what I need.
He cheated on me and he is receiving BAH that is supposed to pay for my rent. He's agreed to support me for one year before he cuts me off, so I can get my shit together. He has thousands of dollars he's collecting, but is being quite stingy with sending me any of it. In the event he gets angry when I ask for the money I am owed as a dependent and he cuts me off, do I have legal grounds to stand on?
I reminded him that he can go to jail if he cuts me off and he said there are far more fraudulent things going on and nothing would happen, and that he's the one who knows what happens in the Navy, not me. Is he bluffing? He's a new recruit who graduated in Feb. Can he really just cut me off and keep all that money with no consequences?
>>63981331Yes. He signed a paper indicating that he will take care of his dependents, all of us here signed the same dependency apper even if we didnt have dependents when we enlisted.
You do have legal grounds.
You can try to get in touch with his command, and if theyre uncoorperative your congressional representative is an option as well, not disregarding other avenues.
>>63981331Sorry YES in the sense that no he cant just keep all of the money. The money he receuves for you isnt all yours per se (i.e you say okay i only need 50% of the BAH) but he is obligated to support you within reason.

The arrangement is to pay the rent + some of my groceries and gas, and then cut the grocery and gas money at the six month mark to light a fire under my ass and kinda tell me "ok deadlines almost here, hurry up on the self sufficiency thing". He gets a little over $2,000 a month to this end. I just want to be safe. He made me all these promises of loving me forever, even said he joined the navy to support me and protect me, and then went off and fucked the first female sailor who caught his eye. It makes me so angry and anxious he would even threaten to cut me off like that. Just 3 months ago he was my sweet boy. I can't believe this is happening.
>>63981437No problem. Im not sure how much of the allowances he receives for you he'd be obligated to send to you, but the paper we signed indicates that he does have to support his dependents.
And on a personal note, please fucking learn from this and grow the fuck up. I cannot understate how young and immature women immediately fall for the bullshit bad men provide. Tomorrow (or sometime this week at the latest) I'll find out if I made it into Air Force OTS for this July board, according to what my recruiter has said. I didn't make it in the last board in May, so I'm hoping this is the one. If I don't make it, how stupid would it be to just enlist with my degree? I want to commission more than anything else but I've already spent so much time with this process and I'm 28, so I want to at least be on the road to doing something in the military. I want to get out of this town I'm in and do something that is (in my opinion) fulfilling, or at least more fulfilling than what I can do here.
>>63981461If you already have a degree, there's no reason to join the military.

>>63981449I'm working towards financial independence because I hate having to rely on him like this. Ugh. I feel so sick. I shouldn't have sent him the screenshot that shows him it's illegal to cut me off.
And yeah, I know, I'm dumb. I grew up in an abusive environment and my parents are dead and I became extremely isolated from the world after that because I have autism. Obviously I wouldn't be a female using 4chan if I were normal and could socialize properly, so when he appeared and gave me all the love I wanted, I fell for it. The way he treats his mother is strange. He hates her but he can never ignore her when she needs help. That's probably why he's continuing to support me. I'm gonna use the cushion he's giving me to find a way to support myself in a way that won't overstimulate me, because, you know. Autism. I just hope he won't screw me over out of anger, and that's why I was asking. I just want to be safe, another reason I fell for it so bad was because I was constantly in and out of unstable situations before. I wish I wasn't autistic, this shit is a curse.
>>63981018Same as always, everyone stays in their treatment lanes, but kinda weird since nurses can outrank doctors if they've been there long enough.
>>63981464Commissioning is a pretty good reason and, coincidentally, requires a degree

The Army lied to me, the pre-reservation thingy the recruiter gave me said 35N 3 years 2 weeks for Ft. Meade, MD. But when I went to MEPS today, all of a sudden they hand me a contract saying it's 4 years and 52 weeks for 35N Option 19 Ft Meade. >>63981461Update, I didn't make it.
My recruiter said I can reapply immediately for the next board of which the deadline is August 10th and compete with the same amount of people for less open positions (although it is the faster option), or I can apply for the first board of next year which is in June. This second option is more of a wait but provides a better chance as I there would be the full amount of spots available for that year. The issue is I'm not sure how much longer my letters of recommendation are good for. If I have to get updated ones from the same people I'll look really stupid, but I'll do it. My recruiter also said "after this, multpile rejected applications looks kinda bad so it might be best to move on and pursue something else." I'm 90% sure this actually just means he isn't willing to continue with my application package after this, and without another Air Force officer recruiter I'll have to either enlist or try for another branch. I want to join the Air Force, so if this doesn't work out I'll just enlist. I don't mind climbing up the ranks to officer so long as I'm actually in the Air Force and doing what I find fulfilling instead of this awful limbo at this shitty job I've been in for the entirety of this process. Part of me wants to just enlist now but I figure if I still have at least one chance I should use it. Thoughts? Advice?
>>63981464>>63981466>>63982781Thank you for your replies
>>63988326LORs don't expire. If commissioning in the Air Force isn't going to happen, you may have to assess whether enlisting in the Air Force would be more fulfilling than commissioning with another branch. Of course, if you switch tracks to commission with another branch, that process will take another year or so...
>>63988326Sorry homie, that's rough.
Can you apply for thr June board next year and spend the year improving your application? Keep your shit job if you have to, but do some volunteering with the goal of a leadership position?
I dont know how normal OTS boards work, I'm a direct commission medical officer, do you apply for a certain field or can you tailor your application?
>>63988481I'll ask him about that then. My LORs aren't much more than a year old anyways, so I'm not sure what he means by that. Honestly he seems kinda new at his job. I've been thinking the same way about my options, and if it came down to it, I think I'd enlist in the Air Force. The road from enlisted to officer is long I know, but I'm ok with that as opposed to not being on it at all. I also like that enlisted can get a contract in the AFSC that they want (assuming there is an opening) whereas officers can pick a few options but ultimately go where the Air Force needs them.
>>63988497I can and actually that's what he suggested. I probably should have done more between my 1st and 2nd attempts, but here we are. Maybe I could land a better job and get some certifications or something like that. As for the OTS boards, on my line officer application I had to fill out a numbered list ranking the officer AFSCs I wanted the most, in descending order. To my undestanding this is not the case with the medical applicants, who instead get a direct commission, like you did.
I'm going to the recruiters office when I get a chance, probably early next week, and I'll be honest in explaining my situation to them and see what enlisted oppurtunities they might propose. I really want to do intel, so if I can get an intel contract that would be great, but knowing enlisted recruiters, I fear they won't want to wait for my results from another board months from now and will want me to start with them sooner than later. That's my only concern with talking to them, but I'll do it anyways. Regardless at 28 I'm going to do something.

How much of a fuck up do I have to be to not get through
How I am supposed to turn my life around from being a NEET
I have done and am doing all of the groundwork I felt I needed
getting myself fit studying whatever I need to do to be competitive
I'm filling out my packet and I'm realizing I'm going to be filtered for being a NEET
I am 25 a NEET a loner and up until recently going on runs and to the gym basically Hikkikomori
I have two people I can use for references which isn't enough
I have basically no job history (besides one or two jobs I have picked up for a week or two here and there for pocket money) (I dont even remember what the companies were called nevermind exact dates I worked there or who my managers were)
From what I understand from googling around it's possible to get around some of this (lack of references) but in doing so you lose any chance at a security clearance for infantry work
Is it just over for me
I thought the military could be a place to turn my life around
I guess it still could be but not at all in a way I would want
I'm not interested in being a cook or warehouse worker if i cant get a security clearance
I keep trying to blindly make changes and push through by raw effort but time and again I get filtered by the random small details that (to me) don't seem to matter
What do

>>63989683Army if you want more pay, faster promotions, and opportunities for schools and SOF, Marines if you want an overall culture with a somewhat higher quality floor but less pay, slower promotions, and fewer schools. I went Army, sometimes I regret not going Marines due to how shitty my first unit was, sometimes I feel like I lucked out due to how shitty things went for the Marines I know who switched branches.
Also you can't really say if you want to make a career of it until you do your first contract and then some, imo. One contract = 90% of your career is being a Joe and executing the mission, 20 year career = 80% of your career is being an NCO (or warrant officer or commissioned officer, depending on if you go to WOCS or OCS later on) and planning/managing/resourcing the mission and the personnel involved. The latter can be fulfilling for the right person but you won't really know if you're that kind of person or not until you get there.

Coast Guard was actually perfect for what I wanted to do, I think, but I took my time (2 weeks?) sending in initial paperwork and when I did the recruiter never got back to me. She never met with me in person, we only ever sent messages digitally. At the time, I definitely wasn't thinking "military is what I want to do with my life". Now I'm much more interested.
These NG AGR positions do look pretty miserable. Everyone everywhere seems to say that it's better to just go Active Army for a full-time job. I think the only thing holding me back from branching out again is that the recruiter for NG was awesome, absurdly competent, and I want to hear his offer now that I've done my part.
If I'm not impressed, how do I ensure I get a different recruiter from the CG office? I don't want to talk to the same chick I did before. Is that normal?

>>63992114You don't get contracts in the same way enlisted do. Before you commission you'll compete for your branch, which determines where you go. You can offer a couple extra years on your contract to get a better shot at a specific duty station, but it's not worth it in my opinion unless you're dead set on a specific location. The only way to guarantee airborne school is getting an airborne unit. If you get good grades in college and are in good shape, the odds of getting what you want tilt in your favor. If you want to go to the ranger regiment, at least as an infantry officer, you do some time at your first duty station then apply.
Least I've slept was around 1 hour per night in mountains at ranger school.

ROTC paid me maybe a grand a semester. There were also some random payments like uniform allowances and you get paid during summer training. I always had enough beer money in college.

How does advanced education work for army officers? I understand that many get their masterโs or even a doctorate. What if I wanted to get a law degree instead. Is that possible or would I have to leave the army and then use my GI Bill?

Basically, during covid, my father got so sick he needed a transplant and I had to put my entire life on hold one day to take care of him. So I've got essentially a massive void between high school and now of no real meaningful work experience aside from one year of said office job and temp work before I physically could not get a job because of commitments to being a caretaker for a long time.

>>63993295It's possible to go to law school while you're in the army as long as you're fine with being a jag. You can apply to be a jag while you're doing undergrad and head to law school straight after commissioning. From what I understand it's pretty difficult to get selected for that though.
Another option is the funded legal education program. Lieutenants can apply for it, and you'll go to law school with the understanding that you'll be obligated to stay in for additional years as a jag. You can go to pretty much any law school you can get into, and I think you still make active duty pay while you attend. I could be wrong about that.
There's a bunch of other programs and scholarships that allow officers to do grad school in all kinds of fields while they're in. But all of them result in additional time on your contract
>>63995696I know. But it doesn't look that great when combined with the fact that as a teenager I was a lazy fuck. Stupid question but during your basic combat training are you allowed to bring in your own boots if they're Army Authorized? I own a pair of LOWA's that I hike with every day.
Question from someone already in.
By some stroke of luck Ive bumbled myself from a job that was okay, to a job I might fucking love but I dont have any firsthand experience with. My unit is starting an FPV builders course and I was put in one of the first classes, which is the best road into getting hours in the sims and getting sent to pilot school.
I know the fundamentals of drone function and operation, but I dont trust Army education to actually teach me everything. I spent 25 years of my life playing flight games, flight sims, anything I could fly I did. I want to get out the the army with at least a few years of experience and try it out for a living.
>>64003459What was ur question

>>64004399It doesn't exist. There's a small chance that if you become an 18 series, you MIGHT have a chance to use one every so often, but I'd bet that it'd only be during meme range days while on a deployment; even then, you'd need to have it on hand (not every group has some just lying around). Moreover, you're going to be a shithead new guy for a while even though you'll be a SGT/SSG green beret, and nobody is going to let you do anything that cool.
MAYBE, if you join a special missions unit, you MIGHT have a chance to run an MP5, but technically anybody can do that. They're often not going to select you if you don't have a deployment, though. You don't have to necessarily be a green beret or ranger for that either.
tl;dr It doesn't exist. You're probably retarded. If you honestly want to try, go 35N (airborne), 35P (airborne) or become an 18 series (green beret), get a deployment or two under your belt at a group, and then get selected for a SMU like CAG or something. Good luck, it'll be, like, 4-6 years of your life at a minimum for a very remote chance of that.

The MOS has low promotion points for NCO ranks and high bonuses because people generally get out after one contract and make bank. Generally you'll do tons of training with industry (TWI) during your contract, which also helps pad your resume. IIRC the only places you can be stationed as active duty 12P are Hawaii, Georgia, and DC.
As much as I hate reddit, I'd recommend doing a quick search on there to see what current/former 12Ps have said about their experiences. This site kinda sucks for easily searchable, detailed records like that.

FY25 is about to end in a few months. Do I contact a officer recruiter now or wait until the new FY? I'm prior enlisted, college degree, but unemployed for two years. I've been living off the money saved while I was in and the GI bill. I already have a hunch the AF will reject me because they're not-too-fond of prior enlisted, and I'm too old for the marines without a waiver. Leaving me two options Navy and Army, I know SF is an option but I would assume they have even stricter standards than the AF. I was in the Navy so going back would be an easy adjustment, but I know JO life in the Navy fucking sucks unless you're in Aviation.
I have a "meme" degree in Organizational Leadership, so my options are more than likely only going to be in supply/admin. Any JOs in either the Army or Navy want to give me a 411 of what it's like in the service currently?
>>64017796Talk to a recruiter since they'll be able to give you better info on whether to wait for the next FY.
As far as the army is concerned, you can get almost any branch you want if you're relatively smart and fit. If you want to do admin or supply go for it, but your options aren't that limited. JO life in the army depends a lot on your branch and unit. Your battalion's leadership, culture, and optempo will determine how shitty your life is. But I can't really speak to anything outside of an IBCT.

>FORSCOM>INSCOMIf you love working in an office, Microsoft Excel, and possibly working side by side with real glowniggers then you want INSCOM, which means you want to be stationed at Fort Meade, San Antonio, Fort Gordon, or Hawaii (500th MI).
If you love contributing to a tactical unit and direction finding and shit and also fucking love the motor pool and railhead and NTC and deployments to Poland then you want FORSCOM. Bragg, Stewart, Drum, JBER, JBLM, Bliss, Hood, Riley, Italy, Germany, Korea, or Hawaii (25th ID).
525th EMIB is basically just a FORSCOM MI unit that happens to support the 18th Abn Corps. If you want the full INSCOM experience you won't get it there. If you want FORSCOM then you've got it.
Yes you can also go to a SOCOM unit, either by passing RASP and going to the RMIB or going to SF group support, but guess what, their shit is way more similar to FORSCOM than they would like to admit. Definitely nicer than being in a shitty IEW battalion at Fort Riley or whatever but still very different than what you would get up to at Fort Meade.
>>64021969>They don't like it when people call huh?If they fielded every phone call from retards that will never join, theyโd be answering phones all day. Showing up at least shows youโre interested enough to move your fat ass to the recruiting station. They can also see how fat you are when you walk in.
Army answers your calls because theyโre desperate.
>>64019930Ignore that anon. Plenty of people use their VA loan and itโs a huge benefit.

Long story short, I am an Australian (white) and I want to join the US military. Australia is a commie police state and I fully believe in the American way of life. I could go the super slow route of immigrating as a civilian but I would much prefer to just immediately join the military. I score very well on tests and I'm physically fit, so I know I can do well, it's just the recruitment process. I've talked to recruiters on the phone/email and they get weird with me when the greencard topic comes up. I know for a fact they have backchannels for illegal mexicans who have no documents and barely speak english. Do I need to be there in person for that to happen? My preference is a job in the airforce on bomber maintenance or something but really I'm happy to be a grunt in the marines if it means I get to be an American. Any advice is appreciated.
>>64025745>https://www.youtube.com/@82acresfarmI wish you a lot of success. If the land of the free doesn't work out, then try Russia.
>>64022538There are a lot of military jobs with good prospects in the civilian world. The true question is what interests you.
I am in the Air Force application page and I do not know what to put. I washed out of BCT in 2019 but I do not know if that counts as previously serving.
