This story will fool low-IQs and midwits who just want to consume anti-Trump narratives. Former US officials are people without intelligence, and current US officials might have intelligence. But instead of maximizing the quality of the intelligence being reported, the total number of sources are mixed together (former and current) and instead of specifying what kind of official they are all generalized as “US officials” which could range from someone in the DoD to a mailroom clerk in Education. Now, let’s assume major media outlets aren’t interested in complete nobodies as sources and that each one is someone who may be considered worth listening to re leaks of this nature; however, the lumping them all in to such a general category only means that if they were any more specific it would make the story much less impressive so therefore the authors try their best to paint a picture of having an authoritative source without fabricating things. In short, there could only be one actual US official source, and that source could very well just be feeding false info because its their job in the anti-Trump operation, or simply just increase their worth as a contact to the media but can’t demonstrate any connection to the DoD (or else they would state someone in Defense to improve the quality of the story).
