The pin for my SA-35 finally arrived, put it back together, entire action assembled. Got a spare hammer spring and trimmed it to make it lighter (gun still shoots a chopstick across the room), got a significantly stronger and insufferable to fit recoil spring. Put together and it’s now pretty good
Trigger pull is a bit over 4lbs

Hopefully the stinger spring doesn’t cause ammo to not cycle but hammer is lighter and people say it functions fine and I didn’t want to lighten the hammer without an offset when the gun already kicks like a blowback despite being only 9
The gun was mechanically simple but the mods were a nightmare because the springs are high strength, hammer near 30lbs.

Colt guns are fine, they may have to back to Colt for minor issues but then you can say “if it doesn’t have a pony it’s a phony”
Springfield is the same, it may have to go back but they’ll fix it. Ruger, S&W, Kimber (they have a bad reputation for a reason but things might be turning around) are side grades to Springfield.
Dan Wesson is probably the best price to performance ratio, you get a handfit frame to slide. Savage 1911s are good, go for a lot less used, but I don’t like their styling.
Past that. used Les Baer, used Wilson Combats, used Nighthawks. High end 1911s do not hold their value well.

After years of frustration with my TLE II, I finally replaced it with a Dan Wesson and swore off ever buying a Kimber again.
Then they released this at a genuinely reasonable price point and now I'm actually thinking about buying a Kimber again. No plastic mainspring housing, much less hideous 'rollmark', factory optic cut, external extractor, bobtail, front strap checking, nice clean slide serrations, under $1k. God forgive me I'm genuinely tempted to pick one up.

The hard part is finding a high end gun that will 100% satisfy you. You may get one and it’s 90% what you want, you’ll be always wondering “what about that model, will that one be the one?” You have to figure out what you want and that usually takes trial and error, unless you have a bunch of rich friends with huge collections or a range that’s stacked with high end guns for rent. You may have to join forums and get into the culture since those guys trade guns around all the time looking for the one.
Also these guns don’t hold value well other than very specific models. Since people paying high dollar for these are very particular about the exact features they want they’ll pass on deals because it wasn’t the model they wanted. There are a few whales that just buy up everything cheap used from high end brands though.

My beretta tomcat is fat and the weight is all around the grip. I think if it had an actual barrel it might fit less awkwardly on my waist. It's dragging or printing my pants even with a belt. Shot 220 rounds through my p2000sk today, because I've been using my cc9 a lot lately. I shot 150 rounds of it in double action, decocking after every shot. Is this a viable training strategy? DA is difficult for me to get good at. Also, is the p2000 safe to dry fire all the time?

Just got the new trijicon enclosed red dot. Haven’t had the chance to shoot it yet but I like it so far.
