The original M&P 9 was part of the trials for the British army hi-power replacement. It lost out to the glock and unfortunately there's no public literature on why, but Ive always thought it was an interesting what-if.

the did it to themselves with the 1.0
not in the oh 1.0 is such a pos they will never buy s&w again
but in a fuck you customer we wont help fix our shit way.
agencys adopted them and when shit broke s&w pretty much refused to help at all and chose to blame the users. just constantly passing the buck. they didnt take responsiblity or fix/ replace the guns on their dime. getting repairs done was a bitch.
they proved that as a company they didnt back their shit.
even if the product is good now theyve ruined their reputation by not supporting it. thats why nobody adopts them cause they know s&w doesnt stand behind their product.

They offer it on the 5 inch tan. And the frames are all the same, pretty sure you could cut out the notches you see on the black 5 inch models and add a thumb safety. If it was a sticking point for a contract it would be a nonissue for them to figure it out.

The thumb safety is widely available and all frames are cut to accept the part, with a plastic plug blocking the hole. Switching back and forth between safety or not takes only a few minutes. The safety only prevents the trigger from being pulled, itโ€™s not an additional striker safety, if memory serves, but you may double check that

I used to think this until I realized I didn't want to look like a cop wearing all OD. It's also unironically not as good as brown in most natural areas. OD is better in concrete areas because it greys out better than brown, but in nature brown is actually far superior. Green is literally a psyop and brown turns invisible amongst a bunch of leaves due to how your eyes pick up green

the glock is mechanically superior, even if the mp is a good gun. the glock 'sear' is larger and interacts with the striker over a larger surface area. the mp has a striker return spring and doesn't strike primers with as much force. the mp rear sight needs to be removed to access the striker safety plunger, which is a extremely gay design. slide to frame fitment is much looser and rattles on the mp, and the mp trigger, at least on the gen 1 mp is like 7lbs of pure nigger.

>maybe it has a thumb safety, but your only safety might be the trigger safety
Thatโ€™s the kind of pistol that you have if a gun fight is likely and an ND is no big deal, otherwise you unload it when returning to base or the station and going off duty specifically to avoid an ND. Itโ€™s not the kind of pistol that you should carry for self defense and keep loaded all the time. Why the fuck do people choose this? Weโ€™ve known DAO and DA/SA pistols are better for self defense for well over a century.

Does anyone know if the 2.0 grips are coarser than this version? Id prefer the grip to be rougher than add talon tape

Also, any aftermarket companies that make grips? I like the width of the "medium" but like how the "large" adds a bit of material to the underside of the beaver tail but is to wide for my liking

You could check the sku on the grips or maybe a parts number. I want to say yes, but may be misremembering. I dont think anyone does aftermarket grips. I was looking for the same medium with the beaver tail like you a few years back and found nothing. Eventually I just kind of got used to it. I had an idea to make a 3d model, or find one, of the grip module and have one of those print on demand companies do one in non shit 3d printing plastic, but I never got around to it.

The very first pistol I ever bought was an M&P 40C, something like 15 years ago. I've long since sold it, but I still have a nostalgic soft spot for M&Ps in general.

I actually didn't realize they'd gotten so popular. In fact I'm not even entirely sure I was aware that we were calling them "2.0"s now. Evidently I've been living under a rock since then.

You can blame the retards at saf-t hammer. They bought S&W in 2001 and did not give a fuck about the company except as a way for them to push their bullshit safety devices. But then the 2000 agreement blew up in S&W's face and they had to walk back from that, leaving them with no idea what the fuck to do with a gun company. This was compounded by S&W being owned by a British private equity firm since the 80s, who did the standard private equity move of gutting the company as much as possible to enrich themselves.

So it's definitely their own fault, but their ownership was absolutely not pushing everything in one direction for decades.

Why? Its "modular" in the same way the glawk was that you can use the compact or full size frame with the compact or full size slides. In all the goyslop guntoober torture tests and long term tests it does as well or better than the other guns, so it wouldve fared well if it made it to the test firing portion

Glock has a lot of name brand power, so even though it was the least modular gun, it basically advanced automatically

Modularity for MHS meant no more than being able to have a Pic rail and change grip size for handlets.

Smith got kicked out for reasons unknown but Glock persisted despite being no more modular than the M&P.

Glock lost because they cost a shit ton more than Sig. It makes you wonder about S&W, they've always been cheaper than Glock commercially so it'd be surprising if cost was why they lost.

M&P is without a doubt the best striker fired pistol on the market today, anyone who disagrees is stupid

9mm is the only one that matters for a duty or tilting barrel CC pistol. Everything else is either dead, a meme, hunting, competition, rimmed or belongs on another platform.

There are no caliber wars. 9mm won a long time ago. There's just skirmishes from underground terror cells that can't do anything but cause a ruckus once in a while but overall be entirely ineffectual to the super power that is 9mm.

Safeties are one way of reducing ND's. While they are unavoidable, they can be mitigated. I'm down to one a month thanks to manual safeties on my rifle and pistol after switching from a glock. Every time I'd clean it thered be an ND because you can't remove the slide without pulling the trigger, such an unsafe design idk how they don't get sued. Thankfully keeping it always pointed in a safe direction prevents you from blasting your head off
