As someone who grew up bored in the middle of nowhere and spent a lot of time.burning stuff, the sparks look more like fuse material or burning steel wool rather than proper thermite, but since the whole thing is improvised, those could be sparks from homemade thermite that wasn't ground really finely. Since it seems the point of this weapon is to start fire rather than to melt metal, not powdering the thermite mix really fine is not an issue. The burst appears consistent with a plastic bottle of napalm/gasoline+soap flakes or styrofoam burning through and bursting. I don't think there was a bursting charge inside, just 4 liter (maybe 2 liter) bottles of jellied gasoline. Plus it fell pretty far, the impact wpuld make the fuel splash as well when the bottles burst.

Drop a water balloon filled with semi-liquid jello from 200 meters up and observe the splash pattern. Then, consider doing it through a hole in the roof of a building and observing how well it coats the entire room it lands inside.
