>>64024627Do you mean the folding stock? It's kinda eh as I hear, but otherwise Mini-14s work fine.
Old pre-2006 models tended to heat up fast due to skinny barrels (which also flexed a bit much), and occasionally had pretty atrocious stock bedding, so accuracy wasn't always great on the old rifles. Somewhat fixable.
However, with match ammo, a modern 581+ serial Mini-14 should be able to achieve like 2MOA, which isn't mindblowing, but a lot better than some people give it credit for. Main complaints for them is that they're not worth the higher priced compared to AR15s (which are just better guns), and that they don't use cheaper and more common AR15 mags, but the design is also from a time when everything using AR15 mags wasn't standard.
There's also the Mini-30, in 7.62x39mm, which also uses its own mags.
You don't get the Mini-14 because it's gonna be the highest performing rifle ever, you get one because you really like the idea of something that fits between the M1 Carbine and M14 in size and has similar look and feel to them, and past that it's a completely adequate rifle, certainly for civilian life.
The one real complaint I have is that they don't sell them with wood handguards anymore, and that they don't make them with bayonet lugs anymore either, both things which I think help its old fashioned look and feel.
