Alaska has one of the highest proportions of felons and registered sex offenders per capita. Their per capita violent crime rate, drug use and DV rates are extremely high.

Basically there aren't a lot of people, but it's a place where fuckups wind up when they are trying to get away from all of their past mistakes and promptly end up making new ones. They also tend to show up for high paying jobs that will hire any piece of meat no matter how bad their criminal history, then find that the cost of living is sky high and that job is extremely dangerous and/or demanding.

From the video it looks like it's the security guard's personally-owned AR-15 that they kept in the trunk of their car. He weren't openly carrying it, you can see him pop the trunk and get it out when the guy pulled out the switched glock and started spraying.
