/frtssg/ - Forced Reset Trigger & Super Safety Genera
Forced Reset Trigger & Super Safety General /frtssg/

General to discuss fully semi-automatic devices, such as the forced reset trigger (FRT) and super safety (SS).

News:
>Atrius did round 2 of orders for the Super Selektors

Is it legal? Yes! Unless you live in a cuck state.

You've heard of FRTs, but what's a "super safety"?
>like an FRT, but a different mechanism (the safety)
>cheaper than an FRT
>$90-$120 for full drop-in kit
>3D printable or CNC (recommend stainless/4140)
>most are 3 position cross-bolt safety
>left is safe, right is semi, middle is fully semi-automic
>Atrius now shipping the only super safety that operates like a normal AR safety selector

How it works:
https://youtu.be/KIxsnh2fFTo [Embed]

To make an AR-15 super safe you'll need:
>M16 style/"full auto" bolt carrier group
>H3 or H2 buffer weight (will do 600-750 rpm of 5.56)
>"low shelf" lower receiver
>SS
>any AR trigger so long as you give it an SS cut

Does it work with AR9s or similar guns? Like a B&T APC9, or a JP5? Because those guns have different bolts.

Just got an update from Atrius today, saying my order is shipping.

Jealous of folks out west that can go innawoods to shoot, here in MI I'd have to drive up to the family ~8hrs away, leaving me to go to some shit indoor that allows "rapid fire".

Will keep y'all updated should I fuck up the install or if it runs good or what-have-you!

Yes, debatably better than a normal AR-15 since the ammo is way cheaper and it's way softer to shoot. What is important to note is that a roller delay buffer is useful to mitigate the bolt bounce and get it working reliably. There are solutions for the MP5, the stribog, and IIRC the vector in development

I considered it too man, we'll see if it was the right choice.
I've got an Anderson lower and Schmid "mil-spec" waiting, though it'll be in a dissy build, so not sure how that's gonna pan out. I also have an "OIF M16A5" "inspired" build in 6.8 SPC I could try, but that's a pretty ... "special" build that I'm not sure would play nice with the ASS, moreso than even the dissipator... (Besides, 6.8 SPC is retardo expensive, even handloading.)

Looking for suggestions for AK hammer springs with more power to prevent light primer strikes.

Working on getting my buddy's Yugo M72 RPK working with this setup:
https://www.supersafetyshop.com/product-page/ak-m70-zastava

Pretty sure the carrier is rubbing and binding on the trip bar. Way too much friction. Cycles, with a hammer.

We've been slowly grinding the trip bar thinner and thinner. Is it okay to take material off the carrier where it rides against the trip bar? How thin can we go on the trip bar?

I'd avoid taking any material off of the carrier itself since thats going to be a bigger, more expensive thing to replace. How thin have you gotten the trip bar down to? I know in my milled Bulgarian I had to really take a shit ton of material off a standard stamped AK trip bar and then also polish AND grease it to get it to run, as well as trimming some off of the front of the trip bar to give it more clearance when traveling forward and backwards. Unrelated but anyone know of any B&T TP9 FRTs?

Got my rarebreed fart in the mail. Installed in about 10 minutes. It really is plug and play. Punch the pins out and slip thr cassette in. The cassette is held in with threaded pins so no risk of walking. The only hiccup was i had some trouble closijg the upper on the lower. A quick google seqrch indicates the reset bar was interfering with the BCG. I was able to solve it by closing the gun as much as possile and slipping a knife between the upper and lower and pushing the reset bar forward. That allowed the uper to close the rest of the way. That's concerning to me from a field expedience standpoint but I'm not larperating yet so whatever. Something to cinsider thiugh if you want this is a combat gun. Apparently this is only an issue with some BCGs and if you shop around you can find one with a geometry where this isn't a problem. Will report back when i go to BLM land next week and test it out.

some useful info for the copypasta would be that the super safety is compatible with a wider variety of aftermarket triggers like geiselle SSA or the G2s (unfortunately not the larue mbt, but still), unlike the atrius or casette style FRTs that leave you stuck with a shitty trigger, this may or may not matter to some, but probably worth putting in the copypasta

"range" in Lapeer everyone just called "the Pit" that was practically a free-for-all and dudes would just rock up with their trucks straight to the firing line, jump out, rip off twenty rounds from their Barrett or whatever, then drive away. Thanks y'all, appreciate the help. I'll get a flatwire spring and a 10oz buffer first. I've been thinking about the maxim roller delay but some reports I've seen actually say the firing rate goes up since you have to remove the weight from the bolt to make it work, plus charging can be stupidly heavy from a down hammer. I still think its cool and will prob get one eventually

One more question: Is there really any need for the centering blocks that go over the lever and keep it from having lateral movement, that deeznuts and others sell? I can see how hypothetically that could be a problem, but not once have I seen any videos or posts complaining of that being an issue

Can anyone update with a rarebreed FRT L3?
Are they currently shipping? Do these have more mechanical advantage on the reset as compared to super safety lever designs, effectively reducing the amount of gas/energy which is required by the operating system to forced the reset against trigger finger force? How is the longevity and reliability?

>Is there really any need for the centering blocks
Nominally it's not necessary but it depends a bit on your lower receiver. once you have your SS kit you can check by simply pushing the lever all the way to one side in the super safety track, checking that the lever has adequate room, then checking the other side. Your upper receiver's sear shelf also may or may not interfere with the SS, which likewise you can test manually by rotating the SS with your fingers and seeing if it catches on the upper. GMR used to have a really good troubleshooting page with all this info but I think it got taken down for liability reasons.
That all being said it does hurt getting the centering piece. For a permanent solution you would want to file out the upper/lower receiver as needed. Permanent of course but it is easy to do with a handle file or dremel.

I've debated the FRT situation with a patent atty specific to firearms.
>Advice is to stay away due to RB's deep pockets and litigious attitude.

As with all patent stuff, it's fought in court by retard judge/peers that have no understanding of mechanical engineering.
Up to RG to put money on it ot not. Prob 4Mil to defend each case. While anon and his LLC have no assets. Pro Se case.

You can patent any change in product, like you say. But RG may butt in like the KoolAid man and demand shekels. I don't think they really have a case on utility. Or on SS. But someone with deep pockets needs to get that said in court.

Have a half dozen FCG designs that incorporate SS or FRT. But hesitant to actually include the trip lever or SS cam. Waiting on what happens to SS in court.

The judge will be competent on the subject but regardless of that it is true that you can't beat the ride even if you beat the rap. Whether a patent is economically viable is not a legal question, and yes fighting a case is expensive (until you win). The thing is that if (you) file for a patent of your own you put Rare Greed in an extremely disadvantageous position. They'd have to argue that the USPTO erred in granting you a patent, and that said patent violated one of theirs.

My opinion is that if you have an idea for a FRT for a different gun you should seek a patent. Ffs you can even sell it to Rare Breed if you want.

RG has AK and AR.
RG was also given utility on FRT for the time being. But they forget to mention the 1930's patent in citation.
Utility until it's overruled.

No real cost on a provisional.
But the actual patent with citations is a time sink.
Or I guess I could wing them.
Some patents have garbage wording and definitely not physics-mechanical engineering wording. I'm doing this wrong.

Are you sure the bar needs to be thinner and you are not looking at it wrong? Im working on my brothers AK SS I picked up for him, and its a PSA GF3 in 5.45 and we decided to modify the bolt because we found out the tolerance at this location was too much for it to squeeze between the rail and the trip. When we measured this part compared to my 7.62 saigas carrier, it was about .03 thicker, and since that part doesn't interface with anything, filing it down shouldn't hurt anything. Plus its not like PSA parts are hard to get or expensive The bolt carrier rides past the trip bar with ease. how would it even work well, the lever would have to skip over the stops on the side of the receiver and you'd have to push it all the way up into an akward position, and the more positions you add to an FRT the harder it becomes to get the lever positions to line up with the original intended positions, so you could wind up with a gun that does semi on the safe position, burst on the fire position, etc.

According to numrous public statements by HK, it's because the German government equates chrome-lined barrels with weapons of war and prohibits exporting them, and HK USA couldn't find any Ameriniggers who could chrome line as well as Hans in Obendorf, so unwilling to settle with subpar results they opted for non chrome-lined barrels, which are more accurate, using their proprietary steel that had a higher chromium rate than others + free life-time barrel replacements. A) They're not supposed to need modding like SS's
B) I went too far with the bench sander
At first, when I installed it, it was clearly interfering with the back of the trigger. Like, A LOT, so I figured I'd just take some material away. And, well, here I am now with another trigger on order because the old one doesn't even touch the selector now :(

Why didn't you just remove some material from the trigger? No you have the surface gone on suspect shit metral.
Anonymous No.64087468

My reasoning was it's easier to swap the safety between lowers and it work immediately than it is triggers and I just felt more comfortable doing that, but you raise a good point, I guess we'll see in the long run

The differences include that the SS is a crossbolt safety and mode selector, while the RBT uses a more-or-less standard AR-15 rotating safety.

There are some modified SS's that apparently work like a standard rotating safety now, but they're commercial products and hard to find (unless you want to buy online and give your contact information to the seller).

Not this idiocy again. You can't patent an "idea", you retard. And the M1911 doesn't work in the same way as the AR-15 trigger system, and Rare Breed's patent isn't invalidated by the 1934 M1911 patent.

You use a CAD program, simulate as much as possible, think hard about what you can't simulate, and you can use a 3D printer to produce prototypes to test your concepts.

You children have it so fucking easy nowadays that I could just scream, and you STILL whine about how you can't figure anything out.

NTA but Rare Breed purchased several patents, one of which, the '223 patent, is a seven claim bunt that claims the general idea of a forced reset. The issue is that forced reset triggers already existed, which precludes the '223 patent IM(IP attorney)O. The cassette triggers are a separate issue.

You can patent a specific design of tire but you can't patent the wheel since it already exists, think of it that way.

You may be the reason Im buying This instead of that mpa, I had no clue this was a thing, this actually looks like an ingram and is just a smooth rectangle thats good for my autism, but reading a bunch of mixed stuff about it rn. Still no frt for the nu-MAC either?

None that I'm aware of, I think they use the same trigger bar. I wouldn't hold my breath for once because there isn't much room. Someone on r*ddit was working on one but no news. I have the 9mm and .45 AARP VMAC and I don't have any complaints beyond what's inherent to a large block of steel that shoots semi auto.

Thanks for helping me learn a bit more, and I think we read the same post; a guy was trying to make a lower that would accept evo mags. Ill look a bit more into it whenever i have some more time, hopefully somethings out there frt related that isnt a mp5 clone or a bland lego AR build.

Agreed, even the MP5 setup is just an AR lower that fits into an MP5 upper. I've considered tinkering with the Indianapolis Ordnance Sten bolts because I think they have a lot of potential. I have a feeling a reset bar could live next to the disconnector with minimal changes. If that's the case it will open the door to several other tube guns. Just throwing it out there so someone smarter than me steals the idea.
