If Yugoslavia never broke apart then the M90 was intended to replace the M70 in service. Instead Serbia standardized on the M21 in 2004, but now it looks like they're in the process of transitioning to the M19 in 6.5 Grendel that can also convert to 7.62x39 with a magazine and barrel swap.
>>64029666
I wouldn't even bother with Telaammo since it's pretty much the same price as brass at this point.

Correct. It's still legally a transferable MG as-is because the receiver is not demilled to the extent that the ATF requires for a gun to be "destroyed."
Hypothetically you could hire a gunsmith (or do it yourself) to re-weld the receiver and rebuild the rifle. It'd be a legal MG and worth $40k++

But seriously, I don't understand the conniption fits. The kit was in that condition already, I didn't wear any of the parts besides the receiver. My options were:
>media blast the entire kit and refinish it, destroying the original finish
or

I got a Yugo parts kit for relatively cheap, but the front trunnion is absolutely destroyed. Can you swap out the front trunnion without worrying about head spacing? It came with the original barrel already drilled for the barrel pin.
Maybe I could build material back up where the front of the mag locks in, but would the heat mess with the strength of the trunnion or anything like that?

You'd need to set headspace anyway during your build regardless of which front trunnion you use. The original is preferable but not required.
>It came with the original barrel already drilled for the barrel pin.
It's gonna need to have to be drilled again when you set headspace. Use an oversized barrel pin (AK Builder has them). This isn't a suggestion, you have to do it this way.
>Maybe I could build material back up where the front of the mag locks in, but would the heat mess with the strength of the trunnion or anything like that?
Don't bother with that, you're right it would mess with the heat treatment of the trunnion.

Are you going to build it yourself or send it out?

I'm going to build it myself.
So, If I ordered the oversized barrel pin, the changes in headspacing, even with a different trunnion, are minute enough that I don't have to worry about the barrel walking forward or back? I don't know if I'm wording this correctly. I can still use the original barrel (already drilled) with a different trunnion as long as I use an oversized pin.

Because I try to educate, here is the rationale. 104FR rifles were only imported for 2 years. From what I have seen, only the earliest examples have a rear trunnion stock release latch that looks like the left. Examples after serial number 1000 or so tend to look like the more common example on the right, the one that PSA and many others copied. There are are few others reasons that the rilfle was clearly not a PSA but that is the main one my eye goes to first. Most anons here know those autistic differences between rifles here. Learn them before you make a post like that again.

I enjoy AKs.
Anonymous No.64035269 >>64035426

The barrel won't move once it's been pinned in place. Since you'll be re-headspacing the barrel to the trunnion, you'll be re-drilling the barrel pin channel. In this case you'll step up a size of pin and make the original channel larger. Hope that helps.

I was asking about this in the ar thread, and they told me to come here. how do I get the stupid magpull folder off of a galil ace and put on a triangle folder or something similar? Do I really need an adapter? Do I need some fucking tool I'll never use again? Will a triangle folder block the ejection and make it so it won't fire when folded?
Anonymous No.64040851 >>64040898
Can someone explain side rail derangement syndrome with the market and military users? The main weakness would be dropping it on the mount, maybe shifting zero. I don't know how much of an issue that is or not in reality. But all these mouse trap contraptions with hand guard mounts, dust cover mounts, dog legs either have that built in due to being mounted to a dust cover, or would probably end up the same if you drop it since they are a claptrap of screws, clamps etc.
Anonymous No.64040898 >>64040948 >>64041092

Yes the Galil ACE has a pin you will need to punch out to remove the rear trunnion. You will then have to buy a 1913 adapter from KNS Precision so you can put something like a JMAC triangle folder on it.
>>64040851
AR babbies don’t understand anything that doesn’t mount to the upper part of the rifle. I’ve seen tards like Reid Hendricks on youtube claim that Ultimak holds zero better than side rail mounts that are dovetailed into the receiver itself. The only thing you have to worry about side rail mounts on AKs are if you get one that’s out of spec and crooked from the factory like on old WASRs, but idk if that’s a real problem anymore. The QC on newer imports from Zastava, WBP, etc. is much better than it was for WASRs back in the day.

How well do they take to being dropped? That's the only real thing I would be concerned about since it you have leverage working against you if it's dropped on the optic. Not that I actually mount optics on AK's, just that's the only thing hypothetical I could see as an issue with the design,
But every other mounting option would fair even worse to that, remember the Ian video on the Ukrainian contract I think German made hand guards?
Even if it was an issue, could just make a solid steel mount and it'd probably bend the receiver before bending itself.

The first batch of Tela ammo in 5.45 was accidentally spiked with corrosive primers that bled from their military line into their civilian line. While they claim to have fixed this on their end prior to the import of their 7.62 into the US, a lot of people don't trust them.

Reading comprehension much? I got it as close as I could on my own. The colors will never match because the stock was painted multiple decades ago and then got used and abused for all these years. I would have to sandpaper the stock and repaint it but I like it the way it is with the original paint. The original wood that the gun had on initially was not matching the stock either so im fine with a little difference in shade.

Send it off to someone. They'll pull the barrel, chop it, re-crown it, then re-press your barrel in. I figure that'll cost you around $100-$200 from most places that won't ruin your barrel.

So, my fathers 30 year old Norinco 56S recoil spring snapped during an IPSC stage. The dust cover popped off of the gun but he still managed to complete the stage since the gun cycled fine.
Now I am looking for replacement options on recoil springs. I have seen ALG recoil springs in stores and I have heard a lot of good about them online, but I have also stumbled upon people claiming to have issues with those said "improvement" recoil springs.
I am asking if anyone here has any first hand experience on those springs. Should I just tell my father to get an ALG spring or would a stock spring be a better replacement option? Pic related, the recoil spring that snapped.

So I guess my only options are to buy an impact driver, ask my LGS for help, or send the can back to DA for warranty. It's an import, so 922(r) applies. It's most definitely US-made purple furniture. The lighting Atlantic uses is usually accurate in my experience on goods received vs. image shown. If that color is too bright for you, shop surplus parts or learn to paint.
For what it's worth, Poland never made plum furniture (nearly all was from Izhmash) so they have no connection to the color, and every WBP gun that had "74 style" furniture on it I've bought has had "US" stamped onto the furniture in places it isn't visible when on a rifle (like the top of the grip or under the heat shield in the lower handguard).
If you aren't willing to do your own build or shop around, that is probably your best bet for "looks like an AK74" in 5.56.
Expect to gamble on mags that function though, 5.56 AKs are always a bitch.

True, but it is a concern that importers and sellers still heed for some reason.
Also, some people still do that old "self report" thing and insist on following 922(r) to the letter, even though it's unenforceable because most parts don't have "made in -country-" stamped on them.
Also, I'm pretty sure WBP rifles still come into the country with those dumb thumbhole stocks and unthreaded muzzles, so US-made furniture would be cheaper to source for the whole set conversion to match.

PSAKs are royally fucked but they look enough of the part and are a "toy" to most people so people are willing to buy them.

>that's not how it works
If there is nothing holding the trunnion to the receiver, eventually physics will do what it does.
When a round is fired, a rapid pressurization occurs from powder combustion, which wants to drive all matter around it outwards via the path of least resistance; by design, that's the bullet going out the muzzle. If rivets are missing, that path of least resistance changes from pushing the bullet out the muzzle to a rapid deconstruction of the assembly around the chamber, because there is nothing holding it together.
Now, if an AK front trunnion is held into the receiver via rivets, and is aligned with the receiver on a set of cuts in the trunnion (and requires being inserted from the front for assembly), what is the "path of least resistance" if the only thing keeping the trunnion+barrel in the receiver is those rails?
I'll give you a hint, it's the front of the receiver, away from the user. What is the definition of "projectile?"

I figure it's self-evident to anyone that understands how an AK trunnion is installed and has a high school understanding of physics, I don't think it's necessary (and frankly I don't think I can do a good drawing to explain).
If the trunnion cannot go down, backwards (towards the shooter), left, right, or upwards (or any other general angle therein) because of the presence of something solid around it preventing those directions of motion (the receiver), it therefore has only one way it CAN travel as a "least resistance" option, which is out the front of the receiver the same way it came in. It takes more energy to bend the receiver so the trunnion could go out another way than for the trunnion to just go out the front.
The trunnion+barrel will therefore go forward out of the receiver under the power of the rapid depressurization caused by the round going off, becoming a projectile.
Is this a difficult concept?

Fine as a toy if you know what you might have to deal with, not worth the money vs. a WASR or WBP though.
Yes, WBPs are "commercial-grade" but they're still better quality components than PSA by-and-large.
>wrong rivet type that may cause them to shear off
>sub-par metallurgy in trunnions, bolt, carrier
If you don't believe me, go to literally any search engine and look for people talking about carrier tail deformation and locking lug wear (or cracking/shearing) on PSAKs vs. WASRs or kit builds. Their rear trunnions are still made of butter steel.
>crap shoot on if you end up in warranty hell on every purchase because they are known to ship lemons and then return said lemon parts as "working as intended" or "we can't identify any issues"

I'm aware of the issues just surprised they haven't done shit to fix the common complaints. They seemed like they were putting in great effort to make a good American AK but now won't polish off the last few problems. It sucks that American guns aren't as good as guns from the 2nd world. We're almost a 3rd world country, I'd say we're at 2.5 world.
Anonymous No.64064376

The issue is that people buy the sub-par thing for a premium price.
>make thing for x dollars
>people are willing to pay x+y dollars for it
>people keep buying thing for x+y dollars, despite knowing it's worse than competitors that may be cheaper
Any improvement in quality would just be a decrease in their profit margin or an increase in price. Both would hurt their sales, so it stays as-is because people still pay it until they get burned. Even if the consumer gets burned, there's a good chance he'll come back should the next shiny gimmick appeal to him.
If you want better American products, buy good American products and encourage as many people as you can to do so as well. Mediocrity only exists as long as it is profitable.
It is largely a futile effort though, slop consumers exist everywhere; in this case, the "I can buy 3 PSAs for the price of 1 BCM" people being the slop consumers if that makes sense.

Read the fine print, if it's over 5 years that's only 10k a year, taxed it's gonna be around 5-6k on top of your already shitty federal salary. Fed jobs are also subject to politics, the next president is bound to fire off a lot of ICE. Oddly enough, ICE started a big hiring spree under Biden then stopped shortly after Trump's inauguration. I was hunting for jobs around that time and noticed that. Strange.

I would look into local law enforcement pay before feds. On top of low pay they're a joke, only Marshals and Border Patrol get actual public contact experience in the field. Feds don't, they're all training and no experience. They have guys that have been sworn for a decade and they act like a 1 year rookie PD officer, they just don't know how to handle situations. That's why you see ICE just ignoring one guy throwing a rock or breaking their cars, despite having plenty of people to arrest him they just don't know what to do. Most feds are considered clowns in the tactical world.
