This falls apart the moment you do a deep dive on historical accounts. For every 1 who says war is stupid and gay, 8 more say it's grim but also had good times, and another 1 who loves it. I've come to understand the "war isn't heroic" meme is a cope insecure civilians tell themselves for missing out. Not that they'd be in that 10% which actually likes it, but they instinctively understand that even their exaggerated glorious strawmen have done something they'll never be.
