Shotgun General. Discuss all things shotgun.
(First time starting a thread, so PLZ be nice ^^)

To start things off, I need recommendations for a light switch to mount on the left side of the VOA pump for the Mossberg 590. The width is about 0.6" wide and sort of angled. Should I go for a flat or angled/raised switch?

I should probably put a light back on my 500. I took everything off other than the aftermarket stock because that has an adjustable LoP and comb. a shotgun with a full tube just isn't comfortable with all the extra shit on it

I spent double ricing out my 88 with first a PGS then a hogue short LOP furniture set and heat shield (necessary desu and the absolute ideal form for the gun) but I didn't like how it was all black so I tripled it by replacing it with OG 80s wood furniture that feels way worse and still makes it look cheap because of the high gloss varnish

Rifled (Brenneke and Foster) slugs are basically fine through any choke. Sabot slugs are for rifled barrels, though I expect they'd shoot safely through a choked barrel, but with nothing to stabilize they'd perform like shit. The biggest safety factors for shotguns are don't mix up your 12ga with 20ga, and don't shoot old (pre-WWI) guns with modern loads.

I own a supernova in 12 and a nova in 20 since I was 10. Fantastic shotguns the pump action is shortened so you can load it super fast. Recoil mitigation is superb on the 12. I also havenโ€™t cleaned my 20 in about 7 years and never had a misfire. I finally remembered last weekend and carbon was falling out in chunks.

Does anyone here use a cuff? Does it fuck up shooting? I have esstac cards for shells on the receiver, and am mostly baffled and fascinated by the possibility of a pouch on the stock.

This depends on the slug, not the gun. As others have said most slugs are totally safe to fire through chokes. There are a handful that are not, like some of the steel Euro slugs. Just read the box, it will say if the slug is not safe for chokes.

The main point of those things is to adjust the fit of the gun to improve shooting, like if you need a longer length of pull they add extra length to the butt of the gun, and some like the one in your pic also have a built in cheek riser which lowers the "drop" of the stock. If you need those changes they make the gun fit you better. If you don't need those changes then they make the gun fit you worse. The pouch is not the point, it's just something to do with the extra leather on the far side of the cuff.

I use a cheap cuff just for choke tubes and wrench so its thin and low profile, putting ammo on the butt makes the gun feel weird and snag on shit IMO

New into shotguns.

Which is the best 870? What's the difference between the 870 home defense and the 870 tactical? and the express? Should I just go for a maverick 88?

Genuine ignorance since my range don't allow shotguns and never ever had interest on them until now.

I am inheriting an old single barrel baikal shotgun (IJ-18), suggestions on building a decent "survival" kit around it? I already have a winchester 1300 defender, but I thought that the good old soviet shotgun would be great as a backpacking gun due to its light weight.
I am having dumb ideas about 3d printing a forend with a hole for a MLOK slot for a WML for it. Or if not that, maybe getting an extra forend for the gun and to install a WML mount on that.

For a home defense/tactical shotgun would you all recommend a pump or semi auto? I'm taking into consideration of price as well as what would look better in court in the even I would have to use it. I've heard the more 'tactical' a gun looks in a self defense scenario the worse it will look in court. I've had people recommend me a beater shotgun for $200 just so I'm not crying over it when its sitting in evidence but I'm concerned with quality at that price.
