Hk mr556a4 or b&t spc223
From what i have researched, these 2 are the very best AR inspired firearms on the market. Also fwiw the mr556a4 is almost the same gun as the hk416.

You're conflating "very best" with "most overpriced", but whatever.

MR556, just by virtue of having spares from Brownells' BRN4 series (including BCGs , piston, and oprods), barrels from Nefarious arms, and more aftermarket because 416 derivatives have a significantly larger user base.

There is no real world advantage to short stroke piston AR operating systems. The recoil impulse is slightly different and they shit out gas in a different location, at the expense of carrier tilt and significantly more weight. The parts longevity on piston systems is not significantly higher than DI. The only perceived benefit is for full time suppressed use, and they're not even really that great at that vs a well tuned direct impingement system (See: Mk18, M4A1, Mk12).

Instead of just cleaning the chamber and BCG, where 100% of the fouling is on a DI system, now the soldier has to clean not only the chamber/upper/bcg, but also the piston at the front of the rifle, which requires taking the handguard off. Now as a consequence, the handguard has to come off with no tools and then go back on with perfect zero retention, a ridiculous increase in cost, weight and complexity that DI ARs don't have.

Obviously I'm talking about piston ar15s, not original piston designs (bren, scar), or ar18 derivatives.

Holy list of excuses batmen.

DI is simply inferior to gas pistons in every way. You are comparing a portapody to a clean plate out of the dishwasher. Its not a subtle difference; DI runs filthy, while pistons are so clean you dont even have to clean it every time you shoot it.
