Yeah. And it's not like you need to spend a bunch on reinforced steel doors, multi-point locking systems and all that jazz.
Just an extended strike plate for the door jamb, door shields for the lock/deadbolt, hinge bolts/security studs for the hinge side and replacing all the screws with 3-inchers into the studs will go a long way toward preventing entry. That'll cost you <$100 and take maybe an hours work. Given a sledgehammer or enough time they'll still get in but most burglars aren't that committed, they'll give a couple of kicks and if that's not enough they'll fuck off or climb in through a window. In any case, plenty of time you'll have plenty of time to grab a gun and start jerking yourself off.

Even in a rental property you can replace the hinge and strike plate screws without anyone noticing. Probably even get away with installing the rest too. It's not like landlords are checking the door jamb for home security improvements when they do an inspection.

I had this same issue with the county regarding egress windows. All rooms that could potentially be used as a bedroom are required to have an escape route in case of fire. What I did was put up 12.5ga welded wire fencing on all the windows, and for the bedrooms I used the existing bug screens which had aluminum frames and just drilled the fencing right into the frame, over the bug screens. I then drilled 1 hole top and bottom and ran a steel wire twist tie through the metal window frame and bug screen frame, so it's nearly impossible to simply rip out by hand. Now all my windows look like a chicken coop.

No tools, special knowledge, combination locks, or excessive force are required to remove the frames in case of fire. County inspected it and had no issues, but I live in a small town so the only thing they cared about was fire codes. If you have an HOA they will probably throw a shit fit.
