I didn't know what DA/SA in a revolver was, so I was asking the boomer how exactly it works before renting a smiffnwesson 686, "I saw in a video online that you can cock the hammer, but don't have to."

I've seen some dumb people; I wouldn't know how to rank them.
>Someone once called me an anti gunner because I was trying to explain to him the difference between a single-action pistol (like a 1911) and a DA/SA pistol (Beretta 92). He (who didn't own a 1911) said that the hammer didn't need to be cocked and that I was bullshitting.
>Guy told me that I was a pussy for shooting a .22 rifle and that a real man would choose something with more power. He owns a 10mm PCC (a good option) that he never shoots anymore (here's where his idiocy is exposed) due to ammo being too expensive.
>Some guy telling me I should never shoot surplus guns because metal degrades over time. While technically metal does degrade, there are people shooting 15-17th century muskets right now with no issue.
>I was talking about hearing protection with a guy and I expressed how I love that they've gotten more accessible over the years and he told me he thinks they should be illegal.

Someone bought a g2c or g3c to the range and couldn't figure out why his gun wasn't chambering, range master came down to help and we found out the nigga bought 9x18 Makarov instead of 9x19
Also, the one and only time I brought an old highschool friend out onto a trap range, I gave him my Model 37 and the dude proceeded to reload my gun doing the one handed movie star bullshit
Very rarely go to public ranges so the dumbest things I've ever seen actually were me.

A guy came to my range and tried shooting his Glock. I think he had a .40 glock and 9mm ammo. First round went off (no, really!) and then he had trouble with his gun. Guy I was with went to help him after a couple minutes and got the casing out and told him wrong ammo (he didn't speak much english). Guy left, bought the right ammo, came back like 30 minutes later, kept shooting, and gave the guy who helped him the box of 9mm (49rds). I still have that case somewhere.

>at local public range
>R/O is chill old vet, sits in a FWA truck and reads paperbacks, waiting for retirement

>only 3 lanes, I'm in #3 and they start unpacking on #1
>I notice they aren't packing anything but 2 soft rifle bags and a 5 gallon bucket of cat litter
>I'm aggressively minding my own business but passively curious what is happening
>these men unzip the bags and pull out a Nagant and a lee Enfield from one bag, and a Mauser and 1903 Springfield from the other
>all guns look in spectacular condition, despite being crammed in nylon bags
>lid is removed from cat litter bucket, its loose rounds
>men begin inspecting the rifles, looking for places where the bullets go
>ohshit.gif
>I then speak up, ask them if they need any help
>'no, we got it, just gonna load these'
>I again interject, asking if they've ever shot those rifles before
>'no, they were our dads, he recently died and gave them to us, we've never shot a gun before'
At this point, I stepped over and politely explained that the rounds aren't universal, told them how to look at the headstamps to determine caliber and reference whats on the barrel, showed them how to load them, basic stuff. No one was hurt, they were very appreciative of the help being 50+ year old noguns. I even loaned them spare ear muffs since the range had a tin roof over it. The rifles were gorgeous and I gave my number to them if they ever wanted to sell them.
I'm glad they weren't dicks about it- another man telling them that they weren't doing something right- but Jesus the thought of them shoving random .30 cal rounds into vintage rifles was terrifying. I couldn't just stand back and watch it happen.

This reminds me that the amount of people I see mounting red dots too low on ARs is kind of staggering. They take T1 profile stuff and just stick it on the rail with no riser at all. I've politely mentioned it and it seems a split between people who seem a little sheepish and admit they've got a riser on order but just wanted to shoot, and people who confidently dig in their heels that well acktually this setup is awesome.

Lol. A ~$70 Barska came with my one AR upper and I shot it out of curiosity. Turned out there were pads between the scope and rings...for some (Barska related) reason and it shot probably CD sized groups at 50yds. Replaced Barksa rings that had a tendency to self-loosen their thumbscrews with Leupold ones, halved the group size. Put a Leupold scope in the rings, and the group size is now insanely better.

That's silly, but what drives me up the wall is people pulling back the charging handle and then hitting the bolt release without seating it back in the forward position first. It might not be totally obvious, but that's a great way to bend if break your charging handle over time. Good thing they are usually cheap so it isn't a super expensive lesson.

Story I heard from some police bomb techs.
>Getting cross trained with the military at military range.
>One of the bomb techs sees a shiny.
>Digs a 40mm projectile out of the dirt and shows it off to the others.
>They all assume it must have been a dud and take it as a souvenir.
>Ends up rolling around on a shelf in their truck for a few years.
One of them ended up taking an in depth course on how these grenades actually work and came back basically white as a ghost.
>40mm grenades like that have internal safety pins that withdraw from a central impact detonator pin due to centrifugal force as they spin.
>This way they have a minimum arming range so that some boot doesn't blow himself up shooting against a nearby object or obstruction.
>Which is exactly what happened with their souvenir grenade.
>A grenade that has been rolling around on a shelf in a moving vehicle for plenty of time for the remaining pins to withdraw, thereby arming it.
Now they couldn't go admitting that they had stolen UXO from the military in their truck so they came up with a plan.
>Drive over a big ass bridge over the SF Bay at night.
>Throw it off.
>Grenade actually detonated when it hit the water.
>Big boom, big splash.
>Trained professionals doing Chinese fire drill to get back in their van and scramble out of there before CHP shows up and they get an ass ripping

Conceal carry qualification is a fucking joke now.
My dad paid for my class for my 21st birthday, and the other people there where mostly old fucking retards who didn't even own a handgun or had fired one before. One guy didn't even speak english and didn't have the paperwork ready at any point in the class to the last day. Nearly everybody had to borrow guns for their qualification from the instructor, wanting to qual with revolvers and 45s as well even though they never fucking shot one before. I never felt more like a genius despite being a retard.
