Still one of the smoothest actions in lever rifles. They found something that works and didn't fuck with it. They resisted making side loading an option and relied on tube loading for a long time, now they use both most of the time.
>Lever actions
Limited ammo capacity compared to magazine feed systems since 90% of them are tube loaders. They use pistol ammo, 30-30, or 45-70 the bulk of the time making ammunition choice rather limited. Make sure you use a full stroke when cycling a round or they can jam and are kind of a bitch to clear. That said, much like revolvers, you will have a hard time fucking them up. Extremely reliable, easy to handle, and tough as hell weapons. Taking them apart completely for a complete cleaning is massive hassle, however, it is an extreme rarity that you need to do so, if ever, outside through the fucker in a mud hole.
>45-70
Outside around 200 yards? Kinda useless given the power loss and drop. Think I recall a 1000 yard shot dropping like 160 feet or some insane shit.
Inside that 200 yards? Will pretty much kill anything. Outside of elephants and shit, a 45-70 is one deadly ass round. It's loud, it's heavy, it kicks hard as fuck for a rifle round, but it's still damn good at killing game.
Unfortunately, you better hand load your own rounds because they are expensive to purchase being about $2.50 a round on average.
