Is there anything better than a shitty metal screen to keep an armed intruder from breaking in and raping my cat? For doors and windows. Ideally something that doesn't cost a ton of money.

One of those doorbell cameras might help. The screen slows them down a little while you look at your phone to see what the alert at the door is or whatever.
Course, if they're already set on breaking through your screen I imagine they'd have no qualms about breaking one of your windows either, so what do you want to do, turn your entire house into a fortress?

Yes but with 40 minute sheriff's office response times I need something other than GayDT or ring cameras, and decent window bars and security doors cost a lot of money.

Do you have the ability to plant prickly pair cacti near your windows? You can also buy thick window tint and install it your self, makes it slightly harder to break.

Metal door frame, metal door, two deadbolts spaced apart, everything installed with long/thick bolts/screws.
Metal bars on all your windows.
Motion activated flood lights and security cameras.
Monitored burglar alarm system.
Panic room for your cat with its own phone line.
Train your cat to shoot and normalize him having his EDC on him at all times, even at home.
When your neighborhood and the surrounding neighborhoods within walking distance reach 20% rental status sell your home and start over.

I could do that behind one of these security doors to make it harder to get behind the handle. Not a bad idea actually. Drilling sheet metal into the windows sounds retarded though, unless I'm using perforated screens or expanded metal. Which, from the inside wouldn't be a bad idea.

Drill a plate of steel or something over that section of the door so they can't reach through and unlock the latch.

This. If not prickly pear, then barberry, roses, bougainvillea or whatever else grows in your local area.
You may not want to go for the thorniest option though. You still need to prune the bastards and some of the more savage stuff is a fucking hassle to deal with. Might take Fluffy's eye out if he runs into it too.

You'd have to screw long screws around the entire frame to really make a difference, especially around the plates. Jusy doing the plate will mean they have to kick it twice instead of once, all the wood around it comes out. You're giving people a false sense of security just having a stronger plate.

A strong door is actually better than a metal screen door, but you essentially have to rebuild the whole door and frame. The existing door and frame are likely cheap like everything else about typical modern house builds. Even those screen doors are mostly garbage, when I need to get into a place I just pull the door sideways and it has enough give to get the bolts out of the holes. Saved a kitty that had got stuck between the screen door and door recently. They're made too cheaply and fake like everything else, the metal is thin and can be broken through or the bars bent off. Most are just a visual deterrent, but there are real sturdy ones and you'll know them when you see them. The frame still has to be sturdy. Just rebuild the damn door, solid frame and solid door. Hurricane film the window glass and put indoor roll-down metal covers on them.

This, and install floor plates or kick plates. Make sure your door is a good one, a nice solid oak door is going to take a police department about fifteen minutes to break. A pack of wild niggers is going to give up, work ethic among crackheads is nonexistent.
Everyone says different things about perimeter security, but having motion lights on the outside of your property and cameras in strategic locations is a good enough deterrent.
For windows, wrought iron bars are pretty hard to beat.

You really think any landlord is going to notice that you've changed out the screws inside the door?
I replaced the screws on 2 of the 3 rentals I lived in, for one of them I installed an extended security strike plate too. Got my full security deposit back both times. No landlord is going around examining the hinges of the door for secret home security improvements.

That's a little unfair, this is a news post where they fired a wood beam meant to replicate debris in a class 5 hurricane at it too. There's a few issues though.

1: 99% of houses in most areas have stucco or aluminum exterior walls for mount points, not the brick veneers they use to showcase every demonstration.
2: proper installation required sunken windows, so protruding windows need extra framing which gives a surface for prying.
3: It's apparently easily defeated with a dremel, like all metal screens, so your best bet would be metal screens for the windows + bars

If not a steel security door (will require framework) then get a solid interior door and put a tracked (not rolling) accordion gate in front of it, drilled into the foundation. I'd also put something over that window over there, I don't care how solid it is, put a metal screen or bars over it. If I find a door inside your house with any level of security and put 2 and 2 together on that window leading to the same room, I'm breaking in.

The only way to reinforce that is to either be on a higher floor or install some shitty ghetto bars on your windows, which people don't do to rentals. There's also woven steel window screens (when I worked in a prison I saw it for the first time, the steel screen was impossible to fuck with, looked like a normal see through screen but bulkier, and had its own fancy frame and install)

Breaking a window is loud (or at least the sound is very distinctive) and nobody wants to get cut up climbing over broken glass.

If you've got a glass door or a window next to a door so that breaking it lets someone reach through and unlock the door then they make much more attractive targets, otherwise criminals tend to avoid them.

Door jambs are only like 3/4 inch thick. A 4inch screw would go well into the frame. 4 inch screws in the hinges and plates would mean the entire door is secured directly to the frame and not just the door jamb. It would definitely help prevent a one-kick bust down.

In the boonies it doesn't matter, nobody is listening or cares. Security film is actually a good call, it helps a ton against a brick or crowbar, but when I got quoted for a professional install (you WILL fuck up installing this yourself) I realized it's better to simply pay the little extra for professionally installed security screens. You can then put bars over either if you'd like, as long as they dont interfere with the screen's ability to open.

Example of security pin hinges; also available for regular door hinges. Keeps the door in place even if the pins are removed from the hinge (especially useful when retarded installs/install requirements means hinge pins are placed on the wrong side, not to mention increased strength overall).
Anonymous No.64077212 [Report]
You can also make any hinge a security hinge by replacing one or two screws with security pin screws. Semi-permanent as it requires drilling a hole into the door or hinge under the screw hole of the hinge. Guess you could always glue/epoxy and hammer a hardwood dowel into the hole to fill it I guess. Also a decent video from before DefCon went full retard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YYvBLAF4T8

I would also recommend looking into a better doorknob/lock as well. Maybe a deadbolt and chain if you're really really in the ghetto/the summer crime spree has really spread into your neighborhood. But ALSO make sure that chain is screwed deep into the stud (pre drilled, remember) or it'll just pull your trim off/put a hole in your drywall when it's yanked and nothing else with the garbage 1/2" screws it comes with lol. Deck screws are not a bad choice from what I understand. And remember not to pre-drill with too big of a bit or you end up with a nice hole that's too big to screw into lol. Not too small or you crack the wood anyways.

You will never do this but if you learn very basic welding you can fab your own serious security door frame and door quite easily.

>>64065186
>and decent window bars and security doors cost a lot of money.

Much less than a cheap used AC stick welder (240V preferred, you can run one off your dryer or range outlet if you make a suitable long extension cord) and a can of rods (visit actual welding forums, 4chan sucks for technical info and can never be otherwise because ephemeral threads) then practice on scrap until you can make a decent horizontal weld (then rotate your work so every weld is horizontal).

You can also oxy-acetylene weld without electrical power and neither is difficult to learn. We taught our share of mongs at welding school and most still passed eventually.

You'll need an angle grinder, gloves, a cheap welding helmet etc but that's still far less expensive than paying someone and welding serves you for life.
