I just put mine in the oven and turn on Clean Mode, leave it in for ~1 hour and it's good to go.

Come to think of it, do you think deep frying in WD40 to clean would do more harm or more good?

Really not far off from how some "pro's" do it. I've seen armorers and gunsmiths use Simple Green (which isn't much different from Dawn dish soap) in ultra sonic cleaners. Rinse parts off in the sink when done, blow it dry with an air compressor, oil it up and blow off excess oil with air compressor.

It's just soapy water, as long as you dry it and oil it quickly it won't hurt anything. Air compressors make drying it quickly a lot easier. Letting it air dry slowly will cause rust though, and the soap will strip all oils from the gun, but sometimes that's what it takes to clean the gun, oil holds dirt.

if you can clean a knife with it you can clean a gun with it. just dry it like you would a knife. you also want to oil a gun to protect it from rust spots and make sure all the moving parts are lubricated as well

do you guys also oil external parts like the outside of the slide and/or barrel? (e.g. for a 92)
doesn't that make the gun slippery?
Anonymous No.64069619
>>64069589
I rub the slide and barrel down, so a light coat. The blue / parkerization on those parts acts kind of absorbs some oil so it doesn't feel slippery.

Probably. Also leaves a nasty ass taste on everything the released gas reaches (probably including your pistol grip and furniture by the time you're done) due to added bitterants trying to prevent retard junkies killing braincells huffing the shit. Not only does it not work, like at all, I don't think it should be added. Fuck 'em. Also, this: >>64071160, just be aware that oil and moisture can be in that air. Not a big deal for this use, though. Just be sure to let the pressure out and pull the drain plug in the bottom after use (ideally) to ensure the tank doesn't have any left over moisture inside to prolong tank life.

As long as you don't leave it long enough to rust, rinse the soap off with hot water afterwards, and dry it before the gun rusts (especially in dovetails or other tight spaces), then oil any steel parts to replenish lost oils, you're fine. Slightly warm air can help. Leaving it in the hot summer sun makes shit dry super fast which is just about the only thing I like about the heat of summer. Sun + breeze = easy drying of a lot of things.

If it's exposed metal than yes. If it's cerakoted or something like that then no, doesn't need it. Minimal oil is fine but important preservative.
>doesn't that make the gun slippery?
No unless you're retardedly overdoing it.

If a gun is going into storage for long periods (>6-9 months) use grease and just accept that you'll need to clean it again before putting it back into active duty.

All the retards in this therad that don;t realise that guns metal work like the barrel and bolt etc HAD to be cleaned with boiling water for hundreds of years and were in many caes right up top the 1950s.

Fun fact I have the privilage of cleaning a lot of very very old ad beautiful guns and when one arrives in the FIRST thing that barrels and locks and bolts get is boiling hot water and dish soap and several rinses of just boiling water.

It makes me cry when I see arseholes like scolla gladitoria cleaning old brown swords with metal polish and wire wool when have of them have remaining blue and gilt underneath that just needs some light passes with a steam cleaner and some wet wipes to lift the drud off.

I have no idea how polymer guns react to bioling water but then again most people grow out of teh tactilarp stage pretty fast when they realise it is stacked with the most price jacked over marketed garbage in the world of gunz

can damage bluing anon, has its uses asdoes acetone but it can go very wrong. Water hat is hot enough to steam off won't harm the metallic parts of a gun in any way

you're literally supposed to use soap in ultrasonic cleaners. it doesn't just work with plain water. but you have to use a special non-foaming soap or else you'll have a very fancy bubble machine

Brake cleaner is a great degreaser and parts cleaner (helper) and unlike carb cleaner, it shouldn't(*) damage bluing. Dollar General used to have some real cheap stuff in a blue can and it was just straight acetone, no chlorinated solvents. Worked wonders on filthy ass (NON PLASTIC) parts. Great degreaser before painting, too. I forget what I've used it on but I miss it. Then again boiling works even better as a degreaser and it also converts your rust so why bother.

Not only that but boiling water and steam convert rust back into bluing. Iron, Fe, rusts, making it Fe2O3. Boiling and steam (somehow) converts it into Fe3O4, magnetite. Don't (directly) quote me on the chemistry there but it does work.

Some alcohol may be able to calm the suds a bit (temporarily, until it evaporates). Shouldn't hurt cleaning performance but why bother unless you already filled it with the wrong soap.

NTA but I was planning on doing that to keep the silencer and gun gunk out of the tub. Never going to use it for anything food related but it's nice to not have all that shit to deal with. Or I could do it the other way around and put a tub inside specifically when cleaning I don't want gun gunk on.
