Why are soldiers with their face covered so much cooler be it Death squads, Knights, or mahyans with their death masks?

Masks dehumanize and separate the people from their actions.

Murdering civilians just doesn't seem that cool anymore when the ebin death squad soldier is Joe Basedjak from across the street.

Considering I posted the pic before, is it fair to say that the old republic trooper armour is basically a superior design compared to that of the clone troopers?
>larger joint movement for ease of, well movement
>larger visor for better visibility
>clear indication of modularity in mind with attachable to the belt and chest place being possible
>segmented plates on the boots so you can actually bend your foot
>good lord the drip

>makes you appear less human
That misses the mark.
It's that you appear SUPER-human. Beyond human.

Without your specific personal identity (your given face), you appear to be more given to an Idea.
You're more an embodiment of a concept,
a living symbol.

Definitely more thought went into it, probably because they weren't designing them to be quickly churned by an overworked costume department.

>One thing you'll notice in Nazi propaganda is that the eyes are usually covered, and the face is completely expressionless. The depiction is deliberately lifeless, completely and totally idealized, erasing the individual even in close up. Interestingly, you can even see this in fashwave art, where the eyes are usually covered up by black bars. I'm not sure if it's an intentional reference or if Nazoids genuinely do subconsciously crave the loss of their own individuality and their self-dehumanization.
>You could interpret that as demonic. But I think that for the Nazi -- who's a petty bourgeois, a white-collar clerk, a member of the intelligentsia -- individuality and "freedom" are always there, and much boasted about, but in reality it's a source of anxiety and bitterness for them. The individuality that capitalist relations have afforded them is atomized and alienating, while at the same leaving them individually responsible for their well being and well being of others -- or so they feel. Thus, for all their talk of the "mindless communist horde" there's no greater fantasy for the Nazi but to let go of their human individuality and lose themselves in the mindless collective.

Probably a stupid question but how well does it work the other way around? Is it easier to carry out mass executions if the victims are forced to wear masks?

Just as a thought experiment, say I'm commanding an alt-right death squad during Civil War 2 (because I can't think of a better scenario right now), with orders from the higher-ups to liquidate 10,000 "leftists" (basically anyone who votes Democrat or was seen with a BLM sign in their window) by the end of the week. Would forcing them all to wear COVID masks (because they're disposable, available in large quantities, and to make the victims "eat their own words", so to speak) be an effective means of psychologically shielding my men from their actions? Or am I still going to wind up with the same problems as the Einastzgruppen where the men are increasingly unable to perform their duties?

Kinda. Oshii is something of a neto-uyo, so I don't think you can uncritically say that. I think one of the main themes of the Kerberos Saga is the romanticism of lost causes, of an attack dog that's no longer needed.
