Aren't they usually aluminum or scandium frame? As much as I want to like them, not being steel framed is a massive turn off since you can't use any of the pissin hawt 357s (which is the whole point of picking a revolver over an auto)

The revolver in OP's pic might be scandium, but its cylinder is steel, so it can take the hotter .357 Magnum rounds.

either way theres only ONE "tactical" revolver and its the R8, theres only one because its a dumb idea, NO ONE sells holsters for a lightbearing R8, nor do they sell holsters for one with the optics mount attached.

I have one of these and it sucks ass
>barrel loosened after like 15 rounds, had to send it back to fac for repairs, which took eight months
>screws that held on light rail got stuck and stripped, immediately on trying to remove, got fixed at the factory when the barrel did
>rear sight notch has come loose and jiggles around in the sight base

This is what I'm afraid of, especially if buying used. Though, the previous owner might have already sent it off for repairs.

To S&W's credit, the barrel hasn't come back loose since it was retorqued, granted I have only put a couple hundred rounds through it since then.
Honestly, I am looking to sell it at some point.

This S&W 986PC was the junkiest piece of shit new gun I've ever bought and I'll never recommend anyone buy a S&W revolver again. I fixed it up good, but it had a ton of light strikes because the underpowered spring plus the a shortened tension screw. The hand was way too big which was gouging the cylinder star and also contacting case rims, making the trigger pull awful. And every screw wanted to loosen after a few cylinders, including the mainspring tension screw and the ejector rod. I would buy a Taurus over a S&W, because at least the Taurus is priced appropriately.

I weighed sending it back vs fixing it myself, and fixing it was less of a hassle to me. I've heard some of S&W's repair times can be months long, and I had no faith that S&W would actually fix it right and I wouldn't have to work on it anyways. I got a sweet shooter out of it, so it worked out, but fuck S&W.

>theres only ONE "tactical" revolver and its the R8, theres only one because its a dumb idea
There are many revolvers with a rail for an optic. I know of a few:
1. Heritage Rough Rider Tactical Cowboy
2. The Cottonmouth (I actually like this one because it proves that most revolvers could benefit from a muzzle brake)
3. S&W 629 (a lot of S&W guns have one nowadays)
Even for some guns that don't have it standard, you could buy one aftermarket. Like the Ruger GP100 has an aftermarket rail.

>I had no faith that S&W would actually fix it right and I wouldn't have to work on it anyways.
They are better at fixing their broken guns than they are at manufacturing guns. It comes from all their experience fixing the many guns that they manufacture and ship out broken. LOL
