Let's have a courteous and productive thread, everybody
>>64072229Rough looking, but a candidate for slide refinishing in something cool like CrN or DLC and I don't see any damage to the frame
300 bucks and that would be a pretty decent deal if it cleans up nicely. I think I paid something stupid like 500 dollars for a PX4 compact in similar condition (but cleaned) when PX4 9mm compacts weren't being made/imported for some reason.
For 636 you can get a factory "refurbished/checked/certified" Compact Carry 1 on gunbroker.

>>64072262300 i mean would be the maximum I would bid. the gun looks terrible so I don't how competitive other people would be
>>64071890In my limited experience, the difference between the 47 and 34 is vanishingly small. The shorter recoil spring (and ergo faster spring rate) of the 47 is barely noticeable, and the slide weights are damn near identical. I think that Ben Stoeger might be misattributing the relative softness of the 47 compared to the 17 to the recoil spring setup, rather than the heavier slide weight.
The interesting story to me is that Brantley Merriam took 2nd at CO Nats with a G17 MOS. The 47 slide is much closer in weight to the 34 than the 17 because of the steel dustcover extension, and that additional muzzle weight makes it behave more like a 34 than a 17. So, at least one high level Glock shooter prefers the faster, snappier slide of the 17 to the heavier, softer 47/34.
I'm not sure what Shane Coley is shooting these days, I think still a 34.

About to drop on a cheely grip for my 2011 build. Standard or aggressive texture? I kind of wanted the aggressive texture at first, but it looks almost like it's too much. Anyone have experience with the standard and how grippy it may be?

>>64072417How sweaty are your hands? I got the most aggressive grip texture from talon grips for my Glock so I’d recommend the aggressive texture.
>>64072427On a scale of 1 to 10, I'm about a 5. Medium sweat output.
>>64072436Go aggressive. Some people use some sort of chalk to prevent their hands getting beat up by the grip when training. I don’t know what the chalk is though.
>>64072417aggressive will fuck you up, but you can always take it down with sand paper and stones.
>>64072420I’ve very much liked my ACRO over the couple of years that I’ve owned it and I haven’t had any issues with it, but I might be in the minority there. A number of users have gotten moisture/debris intrusion, but that may have been fixed by now. If it does still happen to you, you can just send it back to the Aimpoint warehouse in Virginia and they’ll send you a new one.
The bezel is indeed super bulky and so the window is quite small, but I don’t really notice that while shooting. I shoot my 507Comp more than my ACRO these days, but I still think the ACRO is really nice. The brightness settings are great, the glass is crystal clear with no distortion, the footprint is very strong. A lot of things to like about it.
>>64072417I would always go with more aggressive. Never in my entire life have I felt that a grip was too aggressive, but it wasn't until I started shooting sub and micro compacts that I realized how big of a difference the grip makes. I shot my bro's cc9 back to back with my 365 and was amazed at how much better the 365 felt because of the grip texture. It just doesn't twist in my hands and seems like it has almost no recoil. Though, as much as I love it, I just don't trust signs striker fired guns anymore and will probably get rid of it.
>>64072458Appreciate the lengthy response/feedback. I went from the RMR to the Steiner MPS and found I liked enclosed emitters more and the “tunnel” shape of the optic helped me pick up the dot quicker on presentation. Since the optic comes direct mounted through Walther I’m curious how aimpoint customer service will be if I have an issue with it.

>>64072483>the “tunnel” shape of the optic helped me pick up the dot quicker on presentationWord, I think I've noticed the same thing. The dot might be a little easier to temporarily lose in recoil because the window is smaller, but it's definitely very fast to pick up in presentation. I think that's also a product of the very nice brightness/glass clarity.
Aimpoint's customer service was very good to me when I lost the mounting bracket doohickey on my T2 and they just sent me a new one, no charge. They're very friendly (although I guess they should be, considering their products cost mucho dinero).

Series 80 and other variations of that have firing pin blocks, the Colt Series 80 uses a trigger actuated one that makes the trigger feel terrible, other brands have grip safety actuated ones where it doesn't change the trigger pull but purists hate firing pin blocks plus it makes the disassembly and reassembly of the slide aids.

>>64073959Okay, you're clearly too much of a retard to be disabused of your notions, but I'll spell it out for the rest of the (actually sentient) people in the thread.
The damning thing about the "screw in P320 trigger" test is that you don't need to displace the trigger very far for it to go off. Indeed, you can stage the trigger to a point where it's still well in the take-up phase, long, long before the wall, and then get the gun to discharge by bumping the sear off its ledge. This is distinctly unlike what you have to do in an actually safe striker design. By your own admission, you say that to replicate this in other striker designs, you need to push the trigger much further ("90% of the way").
To wit, for a Glock or M&P or VP9 or PDP, you need to pull the trigger bar much further back than you do in the Sig, far enough to disengage the striker plunger safety, and in Glock's case, you need to go a bit further still, to disengage the sear cage safety. You can literally feel these safeties disengage during the trigger pull. That is, if you want to replicate the "screw in trigger" test for these guns, YOU HAVE TO STAGE THE TRIGGER LITERALLY TO THE WALL. This is unlike the P320, and failing to note this difference is unadulterated cope.
The P320 does not have a true striker plunger safety, like any of the above (which is why its trigger pull is very smooth, albeit mushy). Rather, it has a little arm that is supposed to catch the striker if it's knocked off its ledge. This arm has been shown to get stuck in a disengaged state in the FBI white paper. Moreover, the P320 has precious little sear engagement, and what sear engagement there is can be interrupted or otherwise minimized by the presence of burrs on the MIM sear ledge. This was also borne out in the FBI paper.
>>64073652if you plan on carrying it then its a good choice, its going to be snappier and harder to learn on than other options like a glock 19 or 17 or something, but who knows maybe that will help you in some way when you buy your second gun

>>64074038The p320 trigger needs to be 90% pulled to actually produce the condition.
>>64074038>you can stage the trigger to a point where it's still well in the take-up phase, long, long before the wall,Source on this?
From what I have seen is that the trigger already has to be mostly pulled (like 90%)
>>64074074NTA, how does it keep going off by itself then?
>>64074095Probably, because the trigger gets 90% pulled or more.
>>64074038>YOU HAVE TO STAGE THE TRIGGER LITERALLY TO THE WALL. This is unlike the P320, and failing to note this difference is unadulterated cope. Its the same for the p320, it has to be 90% pulled
>>64074073It changes literally nothing and its no home run, I literally have lived experience with the platform and I can guarantee you don't and are circulating internet retard lore about the amount of trigger pull needed to induce the condition.
>>64074122But the p320 has a shorter trigger pull, so 90% of that is very short distance indeed. Really, forget about p320, it's weird that striker fired guns were basically SAO without manual safety for so long without any problem. No one just carries a hammer fired gun cocked and with safety off, but with striker guns suddenly that was fine and acceptable, and things worked out while triggers sucked, but now that we want a short and crisp trigger pull too, the "modern handgun" design is starting to run into very contradictory design requirements.
>>64074147Yeah thats true, its literally just the fact that the trigger is so light + low travel distance + slide movement condition.
Trigger blade safety would 100% prevent it.
If some company made a blade safety trigger for the p320 right now they would make so much money.

>Btw, whats a good optic that won't break the bank? I want to go with a Holosun but their expensive. I've seen ADE and their only about $100 typically.
>>64074227You want to carry it, right? I think the g19 is the better option, unless you’re constricted by state law capacity. There are a bunch of guns that are better if you intend to carry a compact gun. Glock ergos aren’t great. There are better options if you want a (striker fired) compact gun.

Are Backstraps a meme or worth it? Their like $30. Seems most Glocks already have enough to not get slide bite. I did buy a magwell but not sure if a backstrap is worth the buy.
Is it worth a buy /hg/?
>>64077115The dovetail feels like a non issue but if you want more grip to your Glock there's no reason not to try one out.
>>64077115Meme and will make your EDC more big and bulky than it has too. Its just to show off.
>>64077115Just buy a $5 grip on Amazon, same thing but better. Or use both if you want to go /K/ommando.
>>64077115My PX-4 Compact came with backstraps but the default grip feels so nice I haven't even tested them or applied the Talon Grips that came with it
>>64077115If you just bought a Glock don't even buy any backstraps. They will come with some. Most new Glocks do, so just get familiar with your Glock first before going all crazy with accessories.

>>64076940Uhh a forum post I read from 12 years ago says pounding slides on and off is good actually
The gun I really want is a Les Baer double stack. The original ones were built on para frames for the FBI, I asked Les Baer and they won’t make a 2011. I bought a Les Baer slide and another frame, this one is the practice one.

tl;dr no. If this is a big issue for you why even get a Glock? Get something with a nice grip to start

>>64077132 just buy some grip on Amazon, you can probably buy a backstrap on there too.
>>64076940also what’s truly interesting to you?
I just want a .45 2011 that’s classic styling. I thought about buying an ACW but I wanted to build my own for better or worse
>>64077115You shouldn't have even bought a Glock in the first place, backstrap boy
What type of gun is this?
>>64077115>>64077123>>64077175Backstraps are for wimps. You aren't Chads bro.
>>64076940Fine. I was thinking a red dirt DSC flat trigger in black. Just like my Nighthawk has
>>64077231It's hilarious the way millionaires end up with total shit sticks at the range
>>64077170I mean if that what you really want, why not buy one? Seems like they come up for sale now and then. If going 2011 is already a compromise then why not just find a used Baer?
>>64077222If that's all you want there's options. The frame you chose doesn't seem inline with "classic styling" to me. It's sort of funny that what you're building is basically just a Tisas Duty B9R doublestack.
Whats interesting to me is when you've carefully chosen each part to be exactly what you want. I totally understand the appeal of building, but if you're going to do it it should be no compromise. It'll be spenddy but get a slide, small parts, etc that are all exactly what you actually want from EGW / C&S / Wilson / Ed Brown / Les Baer whatever and really take the time to autistically fit slightly oversized parts, then hand blend everything. That's what my old work buddy who is an obsessive competitive shooter does and his builds were incredible. He out hundreds of hours in on Caspian frames and slides and got something you just couldn't buy. Don't use a fucking Springfield slide with their hideous rollmark and end up with the pistol equivalent of a parts bin AR15.
>>64077282>redPlease sir.
Also, classic styling?

>>64077231>singerngl, but I read that as sigger at first.
>>64077305Reddirt is the brand sir.
The issue with the Les Baer double stacks was that the magazines weren’t reliable. Para mags suck, MecGar makes them now maybe it’s better. But nobody fucking makes para double stacks parts anymore other than rock island armory.
I was thinking of buying a classic STI double diamond grip.
>>64077321Siggers have repeatedly obliterated the post since it was made. The fuck kind of copium are you dosing?
>>64074038Imagine letting all the ignition control be in the slide. Strikers are gay.
>>64077305Also only 250 FBI Les Baer double stacks were made, an unknown number was made as custom orders with supplied frames but there were only 250 guns in the original contract.
>>64072213 (OP)Modeling a near-fi gun in Blender, custom design. Do you see anything egregiously wrong with it? It's supposed to be a starter 9mm Glock type pistol, the trigger guard and grip is supposed to be made of some kind of polymer while the rest is of course metal. Within the "shroud" looking thing in the front are supposed to be the muzzle, gas tube, and a flashlight. To the left is the draft I sketched up using a Sig 210 as a base for ergonomics and general proportions
Also I think OPERATOR CAL .45 is cool.
>>64077368Held preview. Also forgot to mention its slide is inspired by the Deagle, so only the back of the gun moves when firing
>>64077381it would work if you take the straight blow back operation of the Makarov rather than using the standard recoil operated that most handgun use.
>>64077368>>64077381Neat. The only thing that seems a bit off to me is the position of the rear sight. Ideally it would be all the way at the rear of the slide.

short stroke on the other hand is related to firearms too and is used by everyone, especially HK for their 416 and G36 pistons

I'm happy that I found a megastar magazine that wasn't over 100 bucks for once. It's a california'd 10 rounder but that's close enough to 12 so whatevs, good to have another spare mag.
>>64077472no, you're just a retard. It has a smaller grip and a shorter barrel, it's the same thickness though. It's not "a 19 but better" it's literally just a smaller gun. You're the type of retard who buys a 43X which is as tall as a 19 but has a 26's barrel length and capacity, aren't you?
