I love shotguns in videogames, but I've never fired a gun in my life
I'm curious to try it out and want to safely fire a shotgun at a range, but is this retarded and unrealistic? I don't want to be a "hurr durr i like vidya so i like it in reality" faggot, I want to be serious about this

It's only retarded and unrealistic if you are retarded. Any moron should be able to save up the money to go rent a gun at a range. If you can't save up 50 bucks and find some method of transportation to that range as an adult something's wrong with you.

If you've never shot a gun before and jump straight to 12 gauge you might develop a flinch but if you're in a noguns country I guess it wouldn't really matter anyways
I have a lot of fun shooting my mossberg but shooting stuff that explodes like 2 liters of cheap soda and crt televisions makes the best target

Thats literally what range rentals are for, people who just want to dump a mag from a cool gun and then move on with their lives.

I mean moreso is it retarded for me to go straight to a shotgun without firing a pistol or something first? Or does that not matter?

It doesn't matter rent what you want. Unless you are a cripple/midget/or other handicap as an adult male you should be able to handle a shotgun.
Now if you are a dumbass woman I look forwards to the videos of it flying out of your hands.

Just make sure it's a shouldered shotgun and not a shockwave or something and you'll be fine. Might hurt your shoulder, shotguns have more kick than most guns you'd fire at a range obviously, but you won't drop it or anything. Also make sure you tell the people there that it's your first time firing a gun so they can ensure you do it safely and the range officer knows to keep an extra eye on you.

Don't feel self conscious if you don't shoot perfectly. The gun community is typically very friendly, it's their hobby and they love getting people into it and helping them out

As long as you don't shoot high brass waterfowl or slugs you will be fine.
Even then, you should be fine if you aren't a total bitch.

You'll be fine mate. The first gun my mom ever shot was a 12g shottie back when she was 13 and she managed to bag a pheasant with it. I'm pretty sure you'll manage to put some holes in paper.

The first gun I ever shot was a 12 gauge NEF single shot. Didn't hold it tight enough but I was fine.
Just hold it tight into your shoulder and you'll be fine.

what you've just described is how many people start getting into guns.
I turned my duplo blocks into rifles at age 3. legos into handguns at age 6.
Both my parents were anti gun growing up so I never even fired a weapon until I was 15with a friends dad.
I now own over 60 firearms and regularly take newfrens that are getting into guns to the range and help them with their first purchase.
We all have to start somewhere, just take the leap.

Yes, this is unrealistic. There is no range, and there is no such thing as a shotgun.

Where do you live? If you're in the US, shotguns are easy to get and cheap depending on what you buy. That one in particular is just a normal shotgun with a brace (love the Muldoon gun btw). It's not like you're asking about an AR shottie or an AA12. It'll probably be a lil pricey.

I might be blowing unreal vape clouds out of my ass on this one, but I'm pretty sure you guys can have shotguns in the rural parts of your kangaroo-run country. It'll definitely be more practical than most guns for you if you live out there. It will also be unbelievably based to have a natural Aussie accent while carrying a Robert Muldoon shotgun. Make sure to wear slutty little park ranger shorts and an outback hat

pistols are far more difficult to shoot than shotguns. Its also easier to be safe with a long gun

You're just there to shoot guns. Nobody expects anything from you other than that you point the thing downrange and not at people.

If you actually want to learn how to shoot, you'd usually start with .22s or other pistol caliber carbines.

you can also look for cheapo courses at a range which may or may not be ran by a retard but as long as they're real srs about gun safety it's fine and you'll get to shoot something. find one specific for shotguns or something and call ahead to see if it's a bring your own situation or a turbo noob we got one to pass around deal.

there's nothing to worry about. people often assume that shotguns are hard recoiling but it all depends on the load. A typical target load is not hard recoiling at all. Some magnum hunting loads are absolutely hard recoiling, but nobody is forcing you to shoot those

Anonymous No.64076840

Just remember that the shotguns only hurt if you let them build up momentum. Tuck them squarely into the crook of your shoulder and pull them tight against it, and then you'll handle the recoil like a champ.

No? Ranges that rent guns do it all the time. Just be sure to let them know you are an inexperienced shooter and ask for assistance. They would rather you tell them that up front so they can assist you, that way you don't hurt yourself, do something unsafe, damage the gun or the range.
>>64073726
You should probably take the opportunity to shoot a 22 rifle or maybe a pistol caliber carbine while you are at it, but you don't strictly speaking have to do that. A 12ga shotgun is going to thump you quite a bit of you aren't used to it, but with low velocity ammunition and some assistance from an experienced range master it is entirely doable.

going straight to the magnum slugs would be retarded but if you're concerned about it start off with light/handicap target loads. The high brass stuff is usually more stout than the low brass loads.

shotguns do have a lot of kick despite what pedantic tough guys try to say online. you really do need make a conscious effort to position the stock correctly or else you wont have fun.

the single most misleading thing about shotguns is how clumsy it actually is to load a tube mag. in games you can shove shells into the mag like its nothing but irl its pretty annoying to do and shells are sorta slippery.

Completely valid to call it an ak-47

>hotguns do have a lot of kick
Not really. A typical 12ga target load of 1oz @ 1200 fps fired out of a 7.5lb gun makes about 17 ft-lb of recoil. That's about the same as a .270 or .308 hunting rifle, a little less than a .30-06. So sure, it's a not a .22, but it's nowhere close to big boy rifle territory.
