Need some tools
I had someone at a gun store mount a muzzle device for me and I was able to twist it off with my fingers after two range trips.
Yes I'm poor, yes I don't have a lot of experience with ARs. Now that that's out of the way what is the best way to secure an AR to do stuff that requires a good solid hold. I was able to do stuff like stocks, grips, trigger, safety and scopes myself but I'm getting to the parts where I need 3 hands. I don't intend on building an AR from scratch anytime soon but I'd like to be able to work on the ones that I have.

Is there some contraption I can sit over my coffee table and stow away when not in use or do I really need a vise for this?

I have a 1/2" torque wrench but no crowfoot wrenches to use with it. That still doesn't solve the need something to hold it still part. The comp comes with a shrouded timing nut and collar, I've been led to believe a washer isn't necessary.

Get a pair of big channel locks or a big crescent wrench. Wrap a few layers of cloth or cheap lead flashing around wherever you want to hold. Put something on the ground to protect your gun. Place the gun on the ground, grip it with your chosen device, and use your own body weight to hold it in place.
