RUCK
You should ruck more, so here's a thread for rucking. If you ever plan on hauling your rifle and gear out innawoods you should be physically ready for it.

Get a good fitted pack, hydration, and get outside at least once this week to put down some miles. If you don't ruck a lot, you don't have to start out with military grade gigaweight- load up with 10-20 pounds dryweight, and throw a camelback or a few canteens on a belt. If its hot and sunny outside don't skimp on suncreen, boonie hat, and/or sunglasses so that you don't cut your ruck short. Post this week's miles and weights.

I wouldn't start with weights at all, just do some spirited walking or hiking with a few liters water and some snacks at first
When i started walking longer distances i noticed that my core muscles started giving out sooner than my legs, resulting in shit posture, would i go with weights back then i'm certain i would have fucked up my back
I started simply by walking home 8km from work daily, with increasing pace, and the progress was great, later doing hikes that venture into rucking territory, not because of weights but because the shit you take adds up over time

I cant even tell you how many 12 milers Ive done. Plus Norwegian foot march, GAFB,EFMB, best medic competitions, Air assault, spur rides etc.

Rucking is also clinically proven to reduce the amount of /consoomer/ shit people people gear up with and/or bolt to their rifle. A 10lb+ rifle build + 30-40lbs worth of pouches, and gear gets heavy real fast after about 1/2 of a mile. You guys would be surprised at how truly ineffective a lot of gear setups are outside of a flat range ESPECIALLY if you live in a dense or hilly area.

Rucking is a very good exercise if done correctly. If you're obese or above don't do it. You need diet biking and swimming. Make sure you have a good pack, I currently use a MR 2 DAP I got new for a little over a hundred new. Before that it was a barely used SO tech for around a hundred as well. Decent shoes with ankle support. I would recommend Merral MOABS 2 if you're going cheap. Replace them after 500 miles. Start off with just clothing or bedding and water. Learn how to pack it correctly. Learn proper posture. Walk as far as you can as fast as you can. Take rest days, several at first. No need to rush it. Get to the point where you can withstand misery. Misery not pain. Pay attention to pain, and why it hurts.

Rucking should done to refine your gear and understand your physical limits

As someone who was actually in the military, rucking is VERY easy to do wrong and you will likely fuck up your knees and back because most of you are retard try hards.

Rucking is NOT a good fitness exercise.

If you have a reason to do so - do it. But doing it for /k/ larping or the boogaloo that's never going to happen is just fucking moronic.

Holy shit this. Rucking is fucking retarded in general. It also needs zero special experience, just being in decent shape and hiking normally. If you really absolutely have to load up too heavy for a brief spell you will be able to. You don't want to make a habit of it though because it'll cause permanent damage. The army doesn't fucking care about the lives of its men after they're done their service which is the core shittiest thing about the military and what put me off enlisting.

We have so much absolutely gorgeous country. Just explore it with a decent normal pack and gear. Find cool places in state/federal land that you can shoot and come back with a rifle and spend a day.

lol you're not an American if you're the slightest bit hesitant about criticizing the federal government. The military has been famous for expending (rightly) huge sums of resources and effort to like, save a fallen soldier or even merely bring back his body. And that's good. But then it's also infamous for putting those same soldiers in shitty mold infested barracks that will fuck up their lungs long term, loading them up with vastly more weight then any human can support long term resulting in knee and spine issues, being extremely careless with toxin exposure due to carve outs from OSHA and so on long, long after private industry figured out better ways out of sheer laziness and
>"we always done it this way exposure to carcinogens makes you tougher"
not caring about destroyed hearing and on and on. Not even military stuff but stupid retarded bullshit like the Iraq burn pits, as if we somehow couldn't have afforded respirators for everyone or it's some big deal.

Any American should be angry not just at the waste/bullshit of it, but also because it raises long run taxpayer cost a lot (healthy happy veterans are much cheaper then disabled fucked up ones) and hurts recruitment amongst younger cohorts who are more aware of this crap. I've done plenty of dangerous shit in private work, but there was always a backstop floor of PPE and liability required by law. The military took the easy route many decades ago but the result has been it's become less and less competitive with private industry for employment.

Militaryfags need not apply, when people say "Rucking" these days they don't mean strapping a hundred pounds or more to yourself like a retard and running for miles and miles. What they mean is wearing a backpack with a couple of 10 pound dumbbells in it and going for a brisk walk through the neighborhood for a half hour listening to their favorite podcast every other evening after dinner.

I'm in some rucking group on facebook for my small town and it's a 50/50 split of ex-Marine 45 year old boomers trying to warn everyone that they blew they knees and spine out by doing more in one week than the 32 year old 20lbs-overweight qt's are all doing in two years. Like most things there's a balance, and sure you can call it backpacking or hiking, or powerwalking with light weights, whatever as long as it gets some inactive people somewhat active.

Keeps me at a comfortable 12 min/mile pace, and I can adjust my run speed up or down if I need to. I would recommend starting off with about 20 lbs for 3 miles, and every week increase either the distance or weight, and after a few months set pace goals(5 miles in an hour with 35lbs for example) until you can reasonably hit 20+ miles with 40lbs. It takes a while tho and recovery is extremely important

Lol. Rucking is bad for you. You can surpass any benefit from rucking by running, weightlifting and gpp like sled pulls and milkmans carries. On top of being in better shape should you have to carry a ruck you will be able to carry more for longer than you would by just rucking.
You only get so good doing something before the curve goes down. And with rucking it's quick.

I walk several hours a week, and also hike when I feel like it, and I always "ruck", as you faggots call it. However, you don't have to larp as some military faggot to ruck. Just carry less weight.

You don't get the point?
Actual rucking is bad for you. I know, I did it for a living. Carrying even just the plates has a very negative effect on your body over long periods of time.
10% of your bodyweight in a pack done on a regular basis will have a negative effect on your body.
All the things you are claiming you want to achieve, are not the end result of rucking. That includes being able to ruck more and longer faster. Or whatever cope version you are doing. This shit was worked out long ago. In the units that are most capable rucking is only done for familiarity. Actual preparedness is done with other activities.
Rucking is a YouTube vet fad, it's a crossfit fad. It's marketed to sell to neverserveds and nostalgic vets.
It's fucking horrible for you. I can ruck more weight now and longer than I could when I was in and I only ruck about once a year as part of a group of nostalgic dipshits.

75 lbs seems more reasonable, but yea it will wreck shoulders lumbar and knees, depending on how bad the backpack is.
>side note is ankle support even real ?
supporting the ankle moves the load up into the knee and hip, so the injury's move higher up the body, not too bad desu.

Rucking by definition is a military activity. If you aren't in the military you are not rucking. If you are curious if you are rucking or not ask yourself am I in the military? Yes? Then you are on a ruck march. You are indeed rucking. Look at you go. No? Then no. You are not rucking. You are packing, hiking, hauling or any other activity. Does that make you feel like less of a man somehow? Is so feel free to join the military. They will set you right up with some rucking.
