Idk, but I find his vacant Xanax-ass thumbnails grating as fuck. Even if its a topic I'm interested in, I refuse to watch on principle just because of his autismo fluoride stare.

He was a rotc captain, and was also a first lieutenant at an active training base for a while. I'd accept that he probably made more connections than he gave himself credit for at the time, and is now using those to "ask the dumb questions" to produce edutainment. That plate carrier is just an attempt at establishing Ethos, and it would make sense to me that a (retired) officer would feel the need to carry a whole ass A5 hardbound on his chest.

His earlier stuff from his lieutenant days is a lot more human and might help explain his motivations. One of the things he talked about back then was a lack of effort by the military to help civilians understand it, which would help people see the people in the uniform rather than just the uniform itself. I think the stuff he chooses to talk about now is still somewhat motivated by that observation, because it's all pretty harmless while still helping the uninitiated understand how the military works.
