Why is literally every single item issued in the French army and utter piece of shit?
Bdus suck, the gilet is a torture device, sleeping bags are bulky heavy and not even warm, assault pack uncomfortable, don't even have an actual ruck they buy a shitass bergaus off the market, uncomfortable af, no evwcs system equivalent, they give you a 90s tier undershirt and pants, a HUGE fleece that fills up your entire pack by itself, goretex jacket and pants, altough the zipper on the jackets broke very often so the quality is shit, and that's it no other evwcs type stuff, the only decent gear is the combat shirt, boots are decent, and that's it, the helmet is half decent it's an aramid helmet low cut with alot of retarded shit you'll never use attached on it as "modernization" such as side rails etc which only make it heavier and nobody ever uses them.

Nothing wrong with DIY. Going to be cheaper if you plan on scrimming anything bigger than just 1 helmet, and you can customize. With DIY you can do things like scrim up a boonie which is cool if you aren't caring about a helmet. DIY can also get classically roughed up to remove the artificial sheen every piece of new gear has.
The downside is you can't compress it all down to a little pocket carry, but if you're a scrim autismo and want to take it off you can roll it and attach it to the bottom or side of a pack when you don't want it

An old NIR compliant uniform would work. Spraypaint the inside before you cut it up to ensure the inside looks good both naked eye and NIR. For ghille threads I've done a classic mud bath and drag through the dirt for every scrim thing I've made and through my admittedly older gen NV it doesn't pop out to me.
Speaking of chink repros, for example if I buy a crye pack backpanel chink repro how close it to the real deal? Cause I'm not spending 200 eurodollars for that ballsack

>pc + belt kit setup
for motor/mech infantrymen conducting assaults, but also fine for holding positions, it is not a sustainment belt kit for long patrols
>pc (crye avs+neck+cummerbund+dick flap soft armor)
FRONT
-Shaw arc placard w/ quad ar insert, can swap to an ak insert (would the 7.62 placard still hold 556 pmags securely enough, if so it could be streamlined)
-blue force gear tenspeed triple mounted on the placard, left empty but affords expansion, these are quick reload mags, the rest are stored on the belt
-ferro sandwich pouch behind the placard (avs has a velcro kangaroo thing to secure placards) for maps range cards and other papers
-atak holder (if I'm even using it)
BACK
-bladder pouch
RIGHT CUMMERBUND
-front: Gp pouch (batteries, compass, pen, multitool, protractor, duct tape, zip ties, weapon cleaning kit)
-rear: nvg pouch with cleaning pen
>belt (crye high back blast belt + jayjays under armor suspenders)
LEFT
-2x double taco pouches (so they can hold both ar and ak)/otherwise I'd put 2 of some larger mag pouch that can hold 3 mags, I like templars gear flapped, they got inserts to keep the mags from moving around once you remove one, problem is i think ak mags won't fit in the ar pouches especially with inserts, and ar in ak pouches will sink and rattle
RIGHT
-grenade pouches (seems to be too low capacity as 5 molle rows will only hold 2 2x2 frag pouches, i havent yet found a good way to carry more frags, on 3 molle rows you put one on top of the other, the bottom one attached on only one molle row, but the belt has only 2 rows, could use some kind of gp or mag pouch to hold more but they'll rattle)
BACK
-ifak(direct action horizontal, can be accessed both sides and quickly.ripped out, good capacity to hold all you need in an ifak)

Tqs in pockets in the front of the cummerbund, 1x side, and 1x shoulder pocket
All the rest like a jacket, food (besides snacks and small stuff in cargo pockets), canteen, woobie, shovel goes into the assault pack, although the goal is to put weight on the belt and with a pack it goes back on your shoulders and back
Im well aware there's better belt kits around with sewn pouches but I'm fixed on this one because it's the only ome with ballistic protection
Will a ferro 3 ac small or medium fit in the avs chassis cummerbund? They got the same velcro type attachment

Im looking for an assault pack that can double as a "patrol pack", that's to say i can use it to put in the bare essentials for an assault, not fill it much, and cinch it down, or fill it more if I need sustainment for multiple days + in cold weather you got layers and sleep system in there, all in one pack. This way you cover 70% of your needs, since you'll rarely bust out the huge ass rucksacks.
>mystery ranch 3dap + gp pouches on the side
+comfortable af (although that's without armor, idk how the thick straps and futura yoke interface with pcs)

budget is tight. A couple suggestions.
1. A set of Hesco 4403s plus a really cheap carrier (hit up China) to go over the PASGT. This blows your budget by about $60-80. Drop the Hescos to a set of LAPG full-coverage and you're at $290 for the plates and $60-80 for the carrier. PASGT will provide frag and the plates - while thick as hell - prevent merking from most rifle threats.
2. A clamp-on rail kit for the PASGT ($60) plus a used NVG-30 off ebay for $150-200. This is digital NV and strictly inferior to most analog but it at least gives you options at night. Save up $250 in a few months, add an HFXC to the airgun. Boom, now you can op3r4t3 at night.
3. Pick up some deltoid / groin armor off ebay, $70.
4. Cheap used ballistic shield off ebay, IIIA, so you can mount and blade with your kabar, parry the enemy, and riposte the home invader. Awkward to use but much faster to put on than a vest and greater coverage.

You didn't ask, but if you're truly LARPing with a crawling setup you'll want to modifiy your outfit. I suggest old school BDUs or current USMC uniforms since those are a bit heavier weight and construction than ACU cut stuff. Get some duck canvas and stitch (or if you are shit and lazy shoe goo) some canvas on the shins and lower legs. Seal the edges with shoe goo even if yo stitched it. You can do the same to the chest but if it's just LARP and you're wearing a vest eh. Your pants are going to drag so you'll probably want suspenders.

I like your style. Unconventional use of armor plates is a good idea. I'm gonna bungee cord a cheap ESAPI or something to a IIIA shield I just picked up.
You could probably get a pair of Rev. A ESAPIs cheap for $300. Remember your tap and torque tests. They need better soft armor than what you have to make rating but can likely still handle basic 5.56 / 7.62x39 threats in front of functional PASGT. They will be much lighter than 4403s or LAPG edge to edge.

Anything assigned to you from CIF that isn't a piece of clothing either gets returned or you pay for it, and you're paying some bullshit inflated price so it's not like you can steal the gear and then flip it for profit.

The military distinguishes between sensitive items (guns, night vision, radios, highly expensive + semi-secret things) you have to sign for at an armory, and everything else.
Night vision and radios = they will send cops to your house
Everything else (like plates) = they don't care and don't know

It depends on the plates. They don't care about twenty year old SAPIs. They do care about ESAPIs if you're sloppy, CID has knocked doors with ebay about that. XSAPIs, SOCOM plates newer than GEN-4B, tend to be hotter and run more risks.
I think the new GEN-5B plates, ITSAs, and anything standalone X-threat are the only plates you really gotta be careful with.

Here's a rule of thumb. If it's better than anything sold to the public by LTC, Hesco, or Tencate (Integris), it's gonna be at least a little hot. They only care about stuff that has sensitive capabilities and/or can be reverse engineered to gain capabilities.
REV. J ESAPI and XSAPI up to rev C are probably fine. VTP/TEP plates are a touch iffy. XSAPI REV. D probably needs to be bought using silk road rules (hottest plates except for ITSA after GEN 2, the secret service PULV variant, the rumored 1lb SOCOM all-PE plate possibly related to the all-PE VelSys ultralight PULV variant, and SOCOM X-threat standalone). The new USMC Lite plates aren't super special and probably fine.
There's also a new LSAPI made by Hardwire that's distinct from the older LSAPI which is probably reaaaal hot.

Yes but their cheat rings are smaller than RMA's old cheat rings. 9x11 on their normal Level IV is preferable to 8x10 on the 1189 and gen-1 1199. Unlike RMA, they also didn't omit mention of the 1189's cheat ring for five years. RMA released the 1189 in 2013 and didn't mention the ring until 2018 after they were called out on Arfcom.
LAPG's full coverage edge to edge Level IV is lighter than the 1155, only a little more expensive, and surely much more robust. 1.5" thick though, Alumina + PE. The high thickness makes me think it might be useful if we need to defend the mayor's nephew from .338 Lapua. That's a lot of PE backer. The 1155 is fiberglass-backed like a vietnam throwback.

I can tell you, the easiest way to avoid being seen on camera is to make sure you're wearing the most non-descript clothing as possible. I can't tell you how impossible it is to find a white male, wearing a t-shirt and blue jeans. Solid colors hide the best, anything with a design makes it easier. Things such as hats, sunglasses, any kind of bag, any bright colored clothing, even boots make you stand out.

Unavoidable if the entire grid isnโt down first.
Youโre not engaging the ATF in this scenario, or even the FBI. Biometrics are what you need to worry about in an urban insurgency today, this isnโt โ80s Belfast

I got a camelbak hawg for the strictly assault pack role and it works fine (unless you're in cold environments), but I'm missing a patrol pack and a ruck, potentially the patrol pack can double as a bigger assault pack.
My picks for the patrol pack would be the savotta kantamus + gp pouches or a mr 3dap + pouches, the kantamus can actually be used as a ruck if you put 2 gp pouches on the side and another 2 gp on the front, so it could fill both roles if you really wanted, otherwise for the big ruck role I'd buy a mr blackjack 80, problem is finding this shit for a good price since they don't sell them in Europe unless it's on varuste for 1600 euros.
The issued backpacks are absolute shit so if you don't want to suffer the entirety of your field ex you need to buy your own and hope you don't get raped for having something different.
Same goes for jackets and cold weather gear in general, light winter jackets do not exist so I got to buy my own. Sleeping bag exists but it's giant and heavy and doesn't even keep you warm.
If you want to have any decent shit you have to pay for it, I've used issued stuff for months and months so I can assure of it's shittiness
Problem is there's no market for gear in Europe so the only brand making jackets is carinthia and there's no used market, all American stuff is tacticool and rare so it's expensive, same for packs

mylar works okay as long as there is free air movement between two layers. You don't want any heat trapped, the opposite effect as a puffer jacket. very situational IMO, not suitable to be worn on the body but probably okay as a sort of tent fly.

if i don't want to support Onward, T.rex or Kommandoshill, what's my best bet for a poorfag recce-style rig? just buying a panel and harness and outfitting it with pouches? i'd prefer something purpose-built and sewn if possible.

H harness from idogear - cloth bit is good, buckles - not great, Id recommend replacing them with actual good ones, at least the female ones. Recently I replaced that ugly chink pouch with british water bottle one. Its the perfect size for a canteen or just a stubby plastic bottle.
Im happy overall with this, I might get a fast single mag pouch for it.

Thermals, Drones, etc are all about stacking as many slices of swiss cheese to reduce your risk. This technology just makes your job more difficult at all times, no different than going from smooth bore to rifled firearms. There is no "Actual counter" for the machinegun, nor will there be an "Actual counter" for thermals.

Experiences like this make me remember I should never try and become a navy seal. These were far from preferable conditions, but nothing happens in preferable conditions.
I consumed nothing except 1 bottle of water in the entire day up to that point. I have a route that was 2 miles in a loop that went back to my land. At about 7/10ths of a mile I started shaking and sweating a bit more than usual, but nothing too bad. At about 1 mile of running non-stop I had to start walking for about 100 meters because I could see the flaps of my pockets moving from the shaking. I drank some water from my canteen and continued running.
At about 1.5 miles I started feeling nauseas, and had to walk for another 50 meters or so before picking up pace again. When I returned to my land I was fucked up. I tried resisting chugging the rest of my canteen, but I did end up finishing the rest of it in like 2 drinks. I went in the shade, took off everything except my pants and rested for a while.
The 4 factors I think fucked me was
>No food
>Minimal water
>Heat (90-98 degrees at the time)
>Wearing jacket instead of shirt, with PASGT vest on top
The lesson I learned today is I should start eating breakfast, wear a shirt instead of a jacket when it's 90+ degrees, and lose some weight.
Time for the new armor company of the week. Introducing... Tardigrade Industries.
>$700 ballistic face mask, 5.1lb (steel?) and tested by the great youtube laboratory to stop .223 (not M193 probably), 12 gauge, .44 magnum, etc, so a sloppy SRT rating at most. Face masks usually cap out at a VERY sketchy IIIA, with backface deformation a major issue unless they're the more typical swat-style visors.
>$1,000 eyepro that stops fragments much faster than regular ballistic eyepro
>A picatinny-mounted mirror so you can put a folding mirror on your gun.
>A bag
https://armoredoptics.com/products/maxilla-maxillofacial-protection
I can kinda see a use for the mirror but five-pound face protection is right out.
Another new outfit, Werewolf Tactical, is getting ready to release an M7 ATS ballistic respirator with optional PAPR. Face protection is either getting trendy or it's trying to. The existing China-special face mask, sold by Militech / Atomic Defense and others, is BFD city, but is much lighter and cheaper.

Mhm, rifle rated helmets are a thing (three flavors, M80 @ 2,100ft/s, M80 at 2,780ft/s - actual "Level III but not body armor so not 0101.06", and M855 protection usually involving something akin to a beefed SLAAP plate) but rifle rated face masks are assuredly... not. Sooner or later you just run into the economics of trying to run ten pounds on your head.
Highcom RCH + this face mask + HHV-Adept M855 plate puts you at ~9.4lb. Add a PVS-14 and you're over 10. Mike tyson neck.

Anything from Adept has to be treated with some degree of caution at the get-go. They don't have a known manufacturing location, no NIJ certs on any of their plates (going on eight years of no certs now), all of their business addresses are suspect (they used to be Diamond Age, same address as a fitness store called Lockout Supplements), and the main guy in charge has patents linking him to Hong Kong.
With that in mind, what does the Novasteel really offer over a IIIA composite helmet?

Excellent argument to buy Chinese. You can also buy used / surplus helmets. Ceradyne BA3As, ACHs, etc. Watch condition. Expiration dates are really just the warranty and what matters much more is wear and tear. The Novasteel's VPAM PM-3 rating is rather low. It also claims protection against 7.62x25 and 5.7 threats but you run into the "how's the quality control" issue - same as their plates. Youtube testers are often sent samples by the mfg and it should be assumed those samples are handpicked. That's not just Adept, everybody does that.
A Ceradyne BA3A or IIIA Protech helmet can be had for $65-70 if you shop around. Aftermarket clamp on rail kits are $60, then there's a wide variety of mandibles out there.

A lot of stuff straight from Adept's marketing. Nice.
/gq/ guys from the old days also ran RMA, so that's not a merit. The 1092 was a /bag/ favorite. People spent thousands on LTC 28595s thinking they were M993 rated. A grand on sets of Defender 275s with potential delamination issues. Old heads got a lot wrong.
Do you have actual test reports to support the BFD / edge shot claim? Even steel can put up mighty BFD numbers. See RMA's RF2 steel with over 30mm. IIRC that was because of actual spalling on the wear face getting caught by the spall liner.
The BA3A is also about 2.6lb, the Novasteel is similar weight.

VPAM-3 implicitly means crazy low BFD and good edge shot resistance. There's literally no such thing as a UHMWPE helmet that's rated to VPAM-3, and the only aramid helmets that carry the rating are insanely overbuilt.
The FBI/DEA just basically copied VPAM for their new helmet specification, so there's probably some merit to it.
> People spent thousands on LTC 28595s thinking they were M993 rated

And no such thing as an NIJ-certified Adept product in nearly a decade, lol. Speaking of, do you have proof the Novasteel meets or exceeds VPAM PM-3? VPAM doesn't have a public CPL for anything - body armor or otherwise, huge downgrade from NIJ in that department. Suits Adept's overall lack of transparency.

About that, what do you guys think of wearing a lighter puffer jacket under a plate carrier, obviously if you're doing a march you'll stay light but for doing guard or even in combat if you're staying mostly static / walking / occasional dashes given it is cold enough, like an atom lt or a carinthia tlg

Adept sells a helmet lobster tail that looks samurai-esque. It's meant to mount to the Novasteel but can probably be jury-rigged to other helmets.
Also don't forget a knockoff SLAAP plate from either hard hat veterans or Jinwudun. The HHV one can stop M855 when paired with some IIIA helmets. That's as high as helmets go for now since Adept's M855A1-rated Bastion is / was vaporoware like their 4.7lb N1 plate.

As was I, although I mostly lurked at the time. /bag/ started being a thing in ~2017. RMA was still fairly popular in /gq/ because the cheat rings weren't found out yet. Certain circles (reddit) were already hyping the LTC 28595 as a sub-5lb multi-hit Level IV, although the M993 rating was a /bag/ fabrication. My recollection is that an LTC dealer tried to sauce it and the 28590 up since they were losing LTC 28590 sales to the Defender 275s IPS had for sale. Might have been Apex but I'm not positive.

5.1lb for a IIIA+ face mask is a hard bargain. It's steel though, so BFD isn't as much a concern as aramid like the Chinese masks, which are a ripoff of a 1980s Safariland design.

Is there any backpack with the same or similar design to the platatac spur but with a different suspension system?
Cause the spur got that mesh stuff for hot weather and shit but imma use it with armor so I don't need that and it seems like it'd just be something that'll break and the hip wings are annoying as well, otherwise the bag design is perfect for a patrol pack
If you disassemble the back part you can remove it by cutting the bottom fabric but then it's got almost no support as the plastic backer by itself is kinda flimsy.
What one could do is put a rigid backer on the inside as there's a bladder sleeve that could hold it and that would provide the needed rigidity.
Ideally it'd have a slick foam backing like on the kahakka, mesh backing sucks with armor as it'll chafe like a motherfucker

NTA, I can see a very limited niche for CQB situations where you aren't able to use a shield for some reason. The rating is very high for a face mask. 12 gauge, .44 magnum, unspecified .223. It's short duration work only.
The weight is extreme, your eyes are still exposed, and you'd be much better served with a traditional IIIA visor since you can still use a gas mask underneath and your FOV isn't impeded.
The new breed of armored gas masks / PAPR have more merit, IMO, but if you're simultaneously being engaged by CBRN and ballistic threats then the situation's beyond fubar.

All true. Unlike a mandible, however, they allow for a gas mask, provide eye / upper face coverage, and limit FOV far less. Also easier to breathe with - but interferes with NV. It's a tradeoff type situation. Neither option is fun. A 3lb visor definitely isn't, but it's better than a 5.1lb face mask.
I think the new IIIA-armored PAPR gas masks are promising from Werewolf Tactical, but I want to see test reports and some third party feedback on them. Old school masks like

Brand new outfit that started a year ago. That's why I want to see test reports for the furry armored gas masks. The idea is promising but their execution is unexecuted. Their M11 ballistic mamsks looks like a better design than the Chinamask Atomic Defense, Secpro, etc are selling, but totally unproven and a lot more $$. I agree that even if they're assembled in Montana the materials are very likely chinese. Most armor upstarts are like that. That means the gas mask portion is likely very suspect.
Might as well ask Jinwudun if they can rip it off for half price. They actually have puccian military contracts for IIIA skirts, blast belts, ballistic sitting pads, and groin armor, making them SLIGHTLY more credible. I don't trust their helmets though, especially that $800 Level III. Their plates are Aholetech-style classic chinesium and inferior to Militech.

If you have most of your gear on your belt line with the idea that you can ditch the plates when not needed then it's going to suck
thin, no padding and you won't be able to adjust it when it starts cutting into your shoulders under the plate
A wider yoke even without padding would be much better

nice trips, but where do surplus ESAPI & SAPI plates rate on that provided they pass the tests for used plates?

Details are in this infographic. Long story short, original SAPIs are 3x 7.62x51mm M80 at 2,750ft/s or 3x M855 or 3x M193. They can also withstand 3x 7.62x54R LPS at 2,300ft/s (this is reduced velocity and simulates standoff). SAPIs are 4lb and need soft armor to function, so they are most comparable but technically inferior to the Hesco 3810LPS on most counts.
ESAPIs vary based on revision. ESAPIs Revision A to F are rated for 1x M2AP at 2,850ft/s, with a 60% chance of stopping a second. Weight is 5.45lb for a SAPI Medium and they need soft armor (add 0.8lb). Revision G raises to 3x .30-06 M2AP and adds 3x 5.56x45mm M995 at 3,350ft/s. ESAPIs lack the raw 6x multi-hit against lesser threats of the Hesco 4601, but are comparable weight when you add required soft armor and have superior multi-hit against M2AP. No Hesco plate aside from the 4520 is rated for M995, although the 4800 has one recorded stop in a Buffman vid post-drop test. Lost to 1 of 2 .30-06 M2AP though.
ESAPI REV. J adds first-shot v50 against M2AP of 3,000ft/s. REVs G-J are stronger than any white-side Hesco plate against steel-core AP threats.
XSAPI plates are directly comparable to the black-side Hesco 4520, identical 3x 7.62x51 M993 at 3,050ft/s rating, but are a pound heavier than the Hesco. That should raise some red flags.

Also just an FYI for anyone interested in the Hesco 3811 and had concerns about it being underbuilt. It is... NIJ certified!
The counterpart all-PE 3801 however is not.

Nah because the plate is 100% vaporware that never really existed, or existed and was pulled and memoryholed. You're probably the only person who even remembers it exists, and you'll never find anybody who has ever seen one IRL

Certified against M80 ball, lmao.
The problem with that type of plate is that it might not reliably stop M855, on account of a too-thin/weak strike-face, which the NIJ won't test it against.
This is why the 3801 isn't certified. Because it might not be good enough to beat M80 ball.

>3811
Certified against M80 ball six times with 2" shot spacing at ~2,750ft/s with sub-44mm BFD, yes. Not a walk in the park. Realistically we do have to keep in mind the Hesco 3810 and 3800 are seven years old and some improvement in PE can be expected. The 3811 is about 13% lighter than the 3810. The 3810 uses an unpressed backer and an aluminum oxide strike face. The 3811 is more expensive and has plenty of ways to deduct weight from that without compromising M855 defeat. It is exactly 0.05lb lighter than the Adept Thunder, so it's not incomparably lighter than competitors.
>3801
12.6% lighter than the 3800. I think the original specs on Verretts' site were off, esp for the 3801LV, and the new 1.95lb weight from other sources is much more reasonable. We know from other plates like the LTC 28595 -> LTC 28570 that weight savings are available in the past few years.

>4520
Evidentially not, since ATT pulled it from their XP throwback website very recently and you have to use the wayback machine to find it, lol. I learned about it from lurking /bag/. It was discussed very frequently then.

are you a big mf'er?
XL plates are wide and will get in the way of your arms if you dont have linebacker shoulders
if you are just fat, dont get an xl carrier, they are sized to the plate not the person
