why were people still buying 1894 marlins and 1892 winchesters after 1895 and the .30-30 came out? were the rifles and ammo that much cheaper? I know the 1894 marlin and 1892 winchester, especially trappers, were popular ranch rifles for killing varmints and predators, but Teddy Roosevelt used silenced .30-30 for woodchucks. Also it couldn't have been that popular because winchester stopped making 1892s in 1945 and marlin didn't produce 1894s between 1917 and 1969

It's a legitimate problem with using the internet to learn about things. The internet is great for old stuff that's out of copyright, or for new trendy things that all the cook kids are talking about. But it's actually terrible for researching things in the middle--stuff that's too new to be part of the body of classical knowledge, but also not new-enough that it's part of the current discussion, is kinda shitty to research online. And guns like this fall smack into that category. If OP really wants to learn this stuff he needs to read, or he needs to find a forum full of boomers who have read and are bored enough to entertain his constant string of questions.

1892 Winchesters have a better lockup and along with the 1886 and model 71, are among the strongest lever actions ever produced. There's a reason that bighorn armory essentially had to use a model 92 action to put 454 casull and 500 s&w into lever guns, the other designs couldn't handle them. Model 94s that were rebarreled to 60,000 psi cartridges in testing would invariably work themselves apart. Also the 92 is shorter and holds more rounds
