I was asking how *much* further the SCAR went in testing compared to similar programs, I wasn't asking about the SCAR program itself but parallel or tangential programs, and how far like the top 3 systems got, not just the SCAR. My favorite right now is the 10.3", I also love the Luth-AR palm handguard I've used it on two separate uppers. The barrel will be replaced with a phosphate barrel but I haven't decided yet to stay at 10.3 or try ~11/12".

SOCOM wanted a rifle that could fire both 5.56 from M16 mags and 7.62x39 from AK mags so they could use the same ammo as local forces in AFG if necessary. Robinson Armament submitted a modified Stoner 63 that worked pretty well, KAC submitted a modified SR-15 that could only use AK mags. Crane gave the contract to KAC despite it not meeting the requirements, spent a million bucks buying six rifles, they did poorly in field trials due to shitty taliban ammo not working in the tight chamber tolerances (which worked great with new manufactured ammo, just not rusty dogshit that had been in a desert for 30 years), whole program got scrapped. In the SCAR trials the XCR was on par with the FN SCAR (and was the preferred choice by a few Green Beret units who tested them), but FN also submitted a .308 version (that was never originally in the procurement) and a grenade launcher (that also was never in the procurement) and Crane decided to amend the trials to require both of those with two months before final selection, so Robinson got fucked over again
