Boat defences rifle and calibre
I’m thinking in a hypothetical scenario where I’m in slow and pleasure boat like a trawler type, and I detected an incoming pirate skiff, legality notwithstanding, what would be the best rifle and calibre for dufence before they get close, I was thinking of a KEL TEC RFB in 308 because of its compact size to store in a boat and it’s 308 excellent penetration at range (300+ yards) to pierce the hull and disable the skiff, or maybe 1895 replica in 54R but it’s a much slower firing rifle

Correct on .308. No to the RFB. I would not trust my life to that. An HK G3 is a reliable option and magazines are available even in Africa where many militaries used them. If you are not worried about sourcing local parts then use an AR-10 pattern rifle from a reputable manufacturer. SCAR-H is a good choice too and has a folding stock for compact storage. FN-FAL is a good rifle but is not accurate enough for the ranges you will want to use it at. That being said, I did see a vid where some secuity types blew up an unmanned drone boat with FALs before it could put a hole in the ship they were guarding.

You can hit a man sized target out to at least 500m, you'll be fine against a boat

What you actually need is a belt fed machinge gun. Rifle fire at sea is really underwhelming and its hard to tell you're hitting anything at all. You'll be able to tell when you hit when pieces of the boat go flying of.

Unironically a shitty old AK, open up on them at 150 yards

I'm only here to mention that one pirate fight or houthi fight where the ship security had all day battle and only lost the ship and retreated when they ran out of ammo. I wonder if that will change the strategy of corporate security tactics in the future.

For a small wooden skiff a .30cal GPMG is sufficient. For a 30ft or larger boat you would want a .50cal HMG simply because it will work to convert the small craft into flotsam so much faster.

>shitty old AK,
The inherent problem is your lack of overmatch means the enemy has an equal chance to fight back. You are at great personal risk to return fire and losing the engagement.

What if compactness is a factor, the FAL and scar are both much longer than the RFB

compactness is really an issue for CQB. A folding stock for storage will be fine. On my submarine we had M16s with a 20 inch barrel. The rifle would be used topside where the extra velocity, sight radius (if using iron sights) were more important than being compact. If you are using something below decks; 1. you already fucked up letting them onboard, 2. a bull pup would be great, but so would a shot gun. I still would not use the RFB, the thought of that muzzle blast so close to my face would not be pleasant. would recommend a silencer for that or something is 5.56 because the close quarters.

This. You're not going to be accurate on the high seas. You're going to want a shit ton of bullets.
