Is there watered down .500 s&w? If not you could get into handloading and tinker around until you get a nice load, but i imagine projectiles are hard to come by for that

Yeah, there's a .500 Special, uses the same projos as .500 S&W. But if you're handloading that doesn't matter, you could make weak .500 magnum loads. Honestly most factory loads are nowhere near full power spec.

You did it wrong, OP. If you want one of those big revolvers you find a used one. There are a ton of those on the used market, often with a bunch of accessories and half a box of ammo, because someone bought one, shot it a handful of times, then decided NOPE and put it up for sale.

Most big bore enjoyers start with .44 magnum and then work their way up. People who start with the really powerful stuff usually only shoot 1 box through it and then sell the thing. You probably could have found a used one for cheaper from someone else who did the same thing you did.
