Is this an APC?
Whats the difference between an Armored Car, IMV, LUV and APC?
They're all armored and carry personal. Why the distinction and why not make a one size fits all APC?

Fuel efficiency, operational burden.

There are wheeled APCs. Your example is just a utility car. APCs in general must be able to stand up to at least 0.50 caliber machine gun and indirect artillery hit.

the armored part

I think an armored car like an up-armored humvee is when just the crew cabin is armored, as opposed to everything

An APC can eat RPG fire mostly. RPG removes humvee or armored car from world

It's a light utility vehicle

Those aren't really vehicles but roles that a certain vehicle was originally designed to fit. The same vehicle can fit many other roles.
>Armored car
Could mean any wheeled vehicle with armor like some prison buses to an AMX-10 RCR
>Infantry Mobility Vehicle
Usually describes light 4x4 APCs built specifically for counter insurgency combat like MRAPs, may also be used like very light IFVs to support infantry
>Light Utility Vehicle
Think bicycle but a motorized 4x4 that can do whatever, it might see combat, it might not, might be armored, might not. Usually the only one out of the others to be seen actually working in a base or other safe area.
>APC
Usually purpose built for conventional war to carry troops, tend to be much heavily armored than other vehicles listed here.

>Why the distinction and why not make a one size fits all APC?
Because one size doesn't fit all. The boys in front and the boys in the rear with the gear have different needs and are gonna need different vehicles. Any military will have a fuckload more armored trucks like humvees or now MRAPS than they do APCs because they're a hell of a lot cheaper and far more fit for general use. Militaries need to shuffle asses and gear around low-but-not-zero-threat environments far more often than they need to charge into combat alongside the armor, designing a vehicle for both would be pointlessly expensive and probably suck shit anyway.

That's not even an armored car bro. You didn't even post an up armored one. Which becomes a lightly armored car. But still less armored than a real armored car like an mrap.

So just one reason among dozens is weight. An armored car of which the humvee is not, can go places an APC can't because of weight, and size. Armored cars are also usually faster, and much easier to maintain.

>Is this an APC?
Not actually armoured worth a damn so no
Troops riding it into battle is basically Motorised Infantry, or for poms, Lorried Infantry
>Whats the difference between an Armored Car
Defunct term, but basically a car that's armoured
Comes in various shapes sizes and roles
>IMV
Current term for a jeep that doesn't use the word "Jeep"(tm), ie a usually-unarmoured battle taxi
>LUV
Modern term for a military truck/jeep
>APC?
An armoured vehicle designed to transport troops under fire to the enemy positions where they will disembark and then assault the enemy, that IS expected to be shot at but is NOT expected to take part in the assault
>They're all armored
No they bloody well aren't
>and carry personal
In the case of the LUV, not necessarily
>Why the distinction
So that soldiers know what to use for what purpose
>why not make a one size fits all APC?
Cost effectiveness

Ideally, light utility vehicles ought to serve as scouts and as the military equivalent of police cars in that they're used by militaries for daily patrols.

No, its a basic logistics vehicle to transport people and things anywhere, like a jeep. It transports a small amount of people.

A Infantry Mobility Vehicle (IMV) is an actual MRAP, comparable to an APC.
