The F-35 only worked out as well as it did because of the massive economies of scale that came with international procurement. 6th gens will be even more expensive per unit and the total R&D budget will also be much bigger, which means that they're going to need even more airframes to spread out that cost over

How many of right will left kill?
The answer is all of them because when you pretend in war the enemy overestimates you and you end up being taken seriously by a professional military that's prepared to delete your entire inventory and capacity to make more.
The only serious aircraft the PLAN and PLAAF has is the J-16

>So a 5th gen?
No, 5th gen is not just stealth, otherwise the F-117 would be a 5th gen.
5th gen require powerful radars that can act as a AWACS and datalink to others in the fleet while staying LPIR. Multirole capability, complete sensor fusion and augmented SA, powerful on board processing power, secure datalink communications across the globe (already tested with Denmark.)
China doesn't have any of these beside subpar stealth.

Because unlike chinkshit which is extremely low quality, a lot of R&D and testing has to go into an American warplane.
You'll notice how they'll have 60:1 k/d ratios in an actual war and that 1 will be some of your shitty fuselage body kit getting sucked into an actual 6th gen fighter's air intake.

The chinese government says "Make this many engineers" and so local governments start counting factory laborers and repairmen as engineers.
The quality of Chinese engineers is about as bad as the quality of Indian engineers. Sure, there are a few really good ones, but the majority of them couldn't pick their noses without a much more senior engineer directing the finger.
it's 100% central government corruption, the actual number of engineers in China is about 1/5th of what they tell you it is.

The average American engineer at a graduate level is competent, the average Chinese engineer at a graduate level is not. China has similarly skilled top-level engineers to the EU and USA but a LOT of them went to school overseas whereas the Chinese-taught ones are about at the level of a maintenance technician who got their crash course at a community college.
Chinese engineers also work 6x9 hours a week and care only enough about their jobs to not get fired, so we have a lot in common with them.

We already have video footage of China flying those things, plus it's been known they've been getting more flight hours annually than USAF at this point. My money's on them.
US would've beaten them to the punch with NGAD but it ran into severe delays in the last 2 years with Kendall basically announcing they had to put the program on pause last year.

The US has chosen one design to proceed with. A design which they claim has already flown, regardless of if there's public a sighting of it.
China is testing multiple designs around a few different ideas, and prototypes capable of flight do not guarantee production.
An actual rollout and adoption could be either side first. But my money would be on the US, just like where the B-21 was just a render. Until it wasn't.

In fairness the same could be true for China, well before these sightings. Plenty of PLA watchers out there weren't surprised by their recent test flights, all it did was just give additional confirmation to what they've been noting for years already. I remember stuff like https://www.twz.com/42937/tailless-fighter-like-airframe-spotted-at-chinese-fighter-jet-manufacturers-test-airfield making the rounds years ago.

desu I've always wondered how that strategy fits, considering the US extracts far more value out of such systems than China does at the moment, given their current strategic position
basically what's stopping China from just blowing all that shit up when the shooting starts, after doing the math and figuring they'd make it out of space MAD better than the Americans?

You're delusional, guy. The F-35 crashes make the news because of how rarely they happen. We lose an average of 3 F-15s and F-16s every year. The fact that we publish these numbers at all means we're confident in our programs. It means we're out there flying. The number of F-35 crashes is low in comparison to any of our other airframe losses.

Korea can't even make a 5th Gen fighter with technical assistance.
China doesn't even know what 6th Gen is, they seem to think copying will get them 85% of the way there and they can wing the rest,

you are mistaken. He's Australian. So it's his bedtime. I've learned that he was recently diagnosed with hypertension on top of his schizophrenia. His AC was also broken. This should be his bedtime.
I'll keep him up for now. Eventually his lack of sleep will get to him via work or health. He will kill himself soon one way or another.

Anyway, back to the topic.
I am back again! Still jpegs huh? Look at this beauty of a jet. A tailess design with such maneuverability. The honest engines made it possible.

chinkshill, you're not trolling anyone, you're a mildly schizotypal freak that spends multiple hours of the day frantically responding to everything and everyone and essentially display obsessive compulsive behaviour, people see through your thin veneer of smugness and detachment instantly, your actions don't line up with your words.

The biggest problem to hypersonic missiles is the kill chain. What good is a superfast missile if it takes you two hours to find, fix, get permission to engage, and launch your missile? Your high value target is either on the move and not where you need him to be to launch. Or, they may not be in that bunker anymore you were planning to hit. The US wanted a missile that would be a leap in tactical abilities, and hypersonics just couldn't offer it.

Furthermore, what is the advantage of a shitty BM that is hypersonic for 10 seconds after burn-out, and is only supersonic during it's most important and critical phase of flight (terminal phase) over a stealthy subsonic terrain hugging CM, or fighter/bomber? Moreover, what is NK's kill chain for said hypersonic missiles? What good is the extra speed when it takes you two days to find, fix, target, and execute a launch like it does Russia?

Hypersonic missiles are low yield relative to size due to solid propellant energy constraints, need state-of-the-art high temp materials because of the heat influx/, and dynamic pressures that act upon the RV in its flight regime, need a robust, accurate, guidance section that can maneuver independently on its flight path (most of these hypersonic missiles from NK, Russia, China can only maneuver with preloaded way-points, with only 3-4 way-points capacity because their guidance sections are shit), and react fast enough to stabilize the RV to give it the accuracy the US would want (which would include high-speed actuators for guidance surfaces). Then you need the support systems in the kill chain to take advantage of this speed, maneuverability, etc. All of this leads to extremely expensive missiles that don't offer any real world advantages over what is already fielded.

right but they haven't released much information yet so all we can do is speculate

i'm no expert but as far as i can see, these planes look virtually identical to those 6th gen renders that the US military came up with and the shape of aircraft is determined by engineering and physics principles, not by copying an unproven mockup where the slightest mistake in the transfer of the design can be fatal, so there's that
and then there's the question of how good the technology actually works - we've all seen the recent J-10C shootdown of the rafale/s and obviously that wouldn't have been possible if their technology was no good
there's also the military-civil fusion, creating such tightly integrated industry with the government that there's been advances across a bunch of fields in the country like semiconductors and artificial intelligence, so much so that it's gotten to the point that they're often on par or better than their western counterparts and the stuff that isn't, like microchips (i believe?), are rapidly getting better each year and are nipping at the heels of the US despite barely existing a decade ago

if you combine these known strengths with the theoretical criteria that a 6th gen aircraft needs to be considered 6th gen and the news several years ago that china announced that they were in fact working on 6th gen programs, then i just don't see how it can be denied at this point
i mean, at best you could argue that these are very bad 6th gen planes or are maybe 5.5th gen

No dude. Jesus here I had to dig this one out https://www.airandspaceforces.com/article/usafs-capacity-capability-and-readiness-crisis/
I'll quote the relevant part here
>During the Cold War, U.S. fighter pilots flew more than 200 hours each year, far more than Soviet fighter pilots who flew closer to 120 hours.
>Today, Chinese fighter pilots are reportedly getting more than 200 hours or 160 sorties in the air annually, or three or four sorties per week. Thatโ€™s far more than U.S. fighter pilots, who are lucky to get 120 hours a year, equating to fewer than 1.5 sorties a week.
Note that
>reportedly
Doesn't mean CCP bragging about it, anyone actually trying to understand the PLA very quickly realizes how tight-lipped the commies are about almost anything from an official standpoint.
These figures are specifically coming from western analysts themselves, because god knows the CCP themselves haven't made any comments on sortie generation.

the OP specifically mentions 6th gen aircraft, when 3 of the aircraft in the OP (the chinese ones) are not 6th gen and therefore not part of the discussion.
as a result, the only 2 aircraft that will be in service are the black project ones that are already flying and are being depicted here with renders.

That's why you see 3 6th gens in the sky of China. Unlimited money and industrial capacity. They have 35% of global output based on USD value. But their real output measured in volume/mat/energy is probably like 60% of humanity industrial output.

Same as with any other 6th gen airplane: people saying they are. Basically marketing's gone into the term and so now it's on the enshittification express where people will keep cranking up generation numbers more and more until no one can remember what generation we're even supposed to be on any more and the number starts exceeding what the PR exec guys can really fit into their heads (so probably somewhere in the teens).

there are only 3 fighters that fit that definition: F22(US), J20 (CN), J35 (CN). If the rest of the world is 33% of the world then it doesn't really count. Just like the US, 61% white is still white.

oh yea and the reason I didn't mention stealth was that the standard of kill atm is detection only - not tracking. Stealth is pretty useless in a system vs system scenario.
Stealth is actually detrimental in that case because you are afraid to lose your expensive jets and cede the initiate to your opponent by turning off the radar in the beginning, due the fear of being detected.
It is useful if you simply have more 5th gen than they have 4.5++ gen and below. Industry matters.

Pakistan literally demonstrated Chinese capabilities in LPI AESA radars and networking by performing the world's longest ranged air-to-air kill against a modern Western 4.5th generation fighter jet.
Chinese hardware has been proven more against peer enemies than american hardware, which is only used against obsolete enemy or target drones.
