In the early days of drone warfare, the German Air Force converted a MiG-29 into a cable-guided, remote-controlled drone in the 1990s, showcasing German engineering technology's global leadership.

However, after investing $3.8 billion, they determined that the 20-meter cable range was insufficient and discontinued development.

Resources and lack of experience building four let alone six engine bombers. It was a promising design but not one they felt confident enough building. More of case of we can build this and it might be a war winner but we could lose the war meantime trying to build it so lets go for building something we can guarantee will work.
