>Sharpe arrives in old Nosey's tent
>His spymaster of the day is there
>As is a weasel looking British officer or French lord
>"Sharpe, this is Lord Fucksworth, who has a dangerous mission for you - you will be enormously outnumbered, deep behind enemy lines with no support, oh and Major Ducos is around so watch out for him
>Lord Fuckworth insults him for being a poorfag but reluctantly accepts that this is Wellington's best man
>"As ye like sir, Ah'll get it dun"
>Cut to Sharpe and Patrick discussing the mission
>"It dun maek bloody sense Patrick, why do they need us to tek this castle/find this woman/get these supplies/uncover this plot"

I love how they're all like "OPERATORS OPERATING OPERATIONALLY", but when you ask them what their secret is, they reveal that they just straight up full auto mag dump all the time.

Odysseus and Diomedes' daring and incredibly successful night raid in Book X of the Iliad. It's been down hill ever since.

Nisus and Euryalus come close to reviving it with the slaughter the wreak in the Aeneid, but it's ultimately a failure. Although, I will say that Aeneas' nick of time amphibious landing to smash Turnus was pretty sick. But he's more of a straight combat guy, taking a coward trucd-breaker's arrow to the chest and STILL dominating and mogging the most powerful hero around and turning a guy who was happy to get locked alone in an enemy camp so he could rampage like a wolf in a sheep's pen into a bitch who runs away begging. It's just too bad about the whole out of control rage, turning into Achilles thing.

Late and immediate post-Cold War/pre-GWOT era (1970-1999)

>Operation Spring of Youth
>Entebbe raid
>Operation Eagle Claw
>Iranian embassy siege
>Operation Acid Gambit
>Scud-hunting
>Operation Gothic Serpent
>Operation Chavín de Huántar

Nowadays, it's just glorified death squads shooting brown people in their homes at night (with some rare exceptions).

Special Forces are massively overrated. SAS were worse than useless during the Falkland War.

To be fair, there wasn't a lot of opportunity for them to shine there. Special Forces are underrated in Africa for example. Like just everywhere in Africa.

Their most kino era was anytime they were still a clandestine unit. The Navy Seals trying to become influencers (in the 2010s and afterwards) has ruined the SF community because it worked, and now every unit wants to tell exaggerated stories to increase military recruitment.

>>64094286
>when you ask them what their secret is, they reveal that they just straight up full auto mag dump all the time.
That was the standard until that incident where those Navy Seals executed the hostage they were meant to save from the Medellin cartel in the. The Seal had his M-16 in 3-round burst, and the third round missed the cartel guy and hit the hostage.

probably between 1990 and 2005-2010, so the period when every country had their own national camos, load bearing equipment became more sophisticated, armies still used different rifles rather than an ar15 of some kind.

completely inaccurate.

Needs the busty totty of the episode to be threatened by Pete Postlethwaite / Hawkswill before bodices are ripped off and they fuck. (Sharpe and the totty, not Hawkswill)

needs Sharpe to call someone, possibly Lord Fucksworth a bastard. Failing that, everyone gets called Bastards, to get them moving, right before the big fight.

then it would be accurate.

This. I've gradually been working my way through the SOGcast whenever I have to do a long drive and that shit is kino. It's wild there haven't been more movies and vidya based on it because the shit they got up to is pretty much the closest reality has ever come to the usual one man army stereotype. (I guess it's probably because the majority of movies and TV since then have been made by liberal boomers who are allergic to any kind of positive/heroic portrayal of the war though.)

use covert OPs to provide air raid warning, which they did
use covert OPs to recon Argie infantry positions to help friendly infantry plan their attacks, which they did
use covert OPs to find Argie helicopters so they could be wiped out, which they did
use covert OPs to direct artillery fire on Argies, which they did
recon and find Argie airfields and then proceed to raid and blow them up, which they did
operate in advance of regular friendly infantry so they could occupy key terrain before the Argies could, which they did
find the enemy's own SF operators and attack them and wipe them out / capture them, which they did
recon suitable beaches for the amphibious assault and ensure they were suitable and clear of enemy, tedious but necessary work, which they did

some of these things were done by the Marines' own SOF platoon and the SBS as well
