5.7 is ineffective. Hundreds of shots and a very low casualty rate. Thats not a good outcome. FT Hood showed why the 5.7 is the worst choice.

I've come to suspect that there may unironically have been a conspiracy against .45 acp. It's unusual for troop reports to be positive about a small arm unless it's a meaningful improvement, 99% of the time it's just bitching and moaning, largely because they don't want to admit to missing. .45's introduction is one of few examples of that, although GIs were back to bitching about them by WW2. I can think of like two high profile failures of .45 acp vs the dozens for 9mm with more coming out every year

5.7 214 shots. 43 hits. 13 deaths
.22 and 9mm 174 shots 49 hits 32 deaths.
You can do this shit all day. 5.7 is trash. It is literally the worst possible choice. It just pokes tiny little holes. The fucking .22lr is demonstrably better at killing.

Yes, but that wasn’t the point I was making. If you shot someone with a 5.7, would they be adequately deterred from continuing violence?
Anonymous No.64096942 >>64096959
>>64096919
All things being equal the person shot with the 5.7 would be less likely to be deterred, incapacitated or killed than they would if shot by pretty much any other pistol caliber.
5.7 is a shit choice. By the deaths alone if you shot 43 people with the 5.7 13 people would at some point be unable to fight back.
If you shot 49 people with the 9mm and .22 32 would at some point be unable to fight back.
That is not a small difference. That is a very significant difference. And considering I would argue the .22 and 9mm are not great choices either the 5.7 is a very, very poor choice.
Anonymous No.64096950 >>64096959
>>64096919
To more directly answer your question it's impossible to tell who will be deterred from attacking by being shot. The only things you can count on are fainting from blood loss/lack of oxygen and cns hits causing paralysis and or death.
The 5.7 is not a good choice for those two things either.

Reloading box mags from stripper clips was common enough that the term being interchangeable isn't really an issue. Loads of early automatic rifles had removable box mags but you were expected to reload it via stripper clips and not replace the magazine.

5.7 is my favorite non revolver cartridge. I'm slowly shifting away from 9mm to it. Basically everything I like about 9mm is better. It suppresses the same as 22lr, recoil is non-existent, the round is flat it makes headshots something that inexperienced can accomplish with minimal effort, since the recoil is low you can train longer without being fatigued and gives you more confidence which prevents flinches.

Basically everything about the round is superior except cost.

Like I said I'm done with 9mm. Its 5.7,22lr, or 44 magnum for me. I can't think of a single reason to own 9mm now.

Ive heard handloading it can be a bitch, but provided i manage, can you load it pretty hot with some, say, 30 grain bullets?
Anonymous No.64098874
>>64098766
You can. People say it's a bitch because of the polymer costing but it literally doesn't matter unless you're shooting a p90. Other than that it's a pretty typical cartridge except the threshold between a normal charge and one that'll damage your gun is very small.
