I feel like the Night Stalker is kinda busted. It's got high damage, dirt-cheap ammo, doesn't weigh much, etc. I'll carry that unique DP-12 just to deal with Chimeras and whatnot, but pretty much everything else gets melted, especially if you've got a rapid fire button on your mouse.

Hopefully the DLC adds some cool guns. Also whenever they get around to remaking the originals, hopefully they'd have already re-added things like the L85 and F2000

That's not the only reason. They used shitty AI upscaling for all the textures and fmvs which introduces alot of screen tearing (among other things that slipped my mind) and the game in general is a total blur-fest even with FSR turned off. The only new thing added that's worth anything is the controller support but who would play Stalker on a controller?

Been a minute since I played, but IIRC kinda yeah. It's an issue with the guns themselves, I think - if you want their performance to be "realistic", they can't do that well (which means they get totally outclassed by mid/late game guns, but ammo is too scarce/expensive to be able to properly use them in the early game).

In terms of DPS they are actually 100 points ahead of tier 3 rifles. It's just that they only have 20rd mags and the revolver does so much more damage that there's no reason not make it your main 9x39mm gun.

The revolver is weirdly balanced in the scheme of calibers. It feels like it should have it's own special caliber; .454 Casull. IMO the quickest fix would be chambering it in 12g by default, and the 9x39mm chambering should be from special variants or a technician upgrade. Also remodel it to look like it can actually fit 12g or 9x39mm into its cylinder (pic rel). The current model is obviously a 44mag sized gun.

Weakening 9x39 was probably the only realistic part of S2, changing from armor piercing mega bullet to what it really is, a fat, quiet round meant to penetrate steel helmets and kevlar vests. IIRC 3A stops the AP round ezpz.
Doesn't matter though, since pistols penetrate more than rifles and the 9x18 Kiparis absolutely shreds enemies that can tank 5.56 AP to the head.

It's funny how I keep treating Stalker as if it's meant to be this scrounging game of limited resources. The reality is that shops full of guns, ammo, armor and supplies are everywhere. Duty got fucked in S2. They're just this group of assholes in the cement factory now. The story doesn't even touch them or make you go there. Meanwhile, Freedom is in Rostok, an essential hub. IMO the Ward should have recruited Duty after the Duga disaster. The Ward was short on experienced manpower and the Ward's goal was going to make the Zone stop existing (as far as Duty needs to know). Duty would have totally been onboard with fucking up Spark.

I played it all the way and had fun. Story is nice, also some characters get assassinated, apparently. I didn't care because this was my first Stalker. It's been updated significantly since then, so I imagine it's a lot better now in terms of performance and the so called """"A-Life""""" thing that old fans gush over.

I do play games weirdly, though. I used a trainer to remove inventory weight limits because I didn't feel like returning to towns every 15 minutes to sell stuff. I turned off stamina because the open world is a bit big and I wanted to sprint everywhere to save time. I also used an interactive online map to search for cool things, which honestly was a boon because it took me to places I never would have otherwise visited.

When you play the original games the shops are definitely not scrounger tier either. In ShoC it's not uncommon to be rolling with 600 rounds of 5.45 with the Barman keeping 300 stocked every time you go. AP is rare until you level up but it's not like you're counting rounds. And definitely not like the mods where you're lucky if a vendor has a full mag to sell you.

It's pretty clear in S2 that Duty are total has-beens and Freedom is only larger because it's just a grift. I don't know why the Ward would hire them when they get Mainland money and soldiers. Duty also never seemed too concerned with scientists, so they probably would care more about killing boars and fleshes than SIRCAA.
>>64116460
Ah yes, night vision, what everybody needs to see inside of a windowed room in daylight. Jokes aside they need to unfuck the lighting system, and probably juice up the flashlight too so flashlight customizer isn't an essential mod install. You're telling me STALKERs are running around in the middle of the night with the equivalent of an AAA Maglite on low battery instead of some 5000 lumen Amazon headlamp?

Dude ammo is super limited in metro. By the time you finally start making your own ammo in exodus it’s moreso framed that you’re an insanely high competency operator who has after a decade of high intensity combat and survival figured out how to survive off of the nearly nonexistent resources available to you. It’s probably my favorite part of that game - the adaptability of the crew is so cool. Watching them change their uniforms from fur-covered anti-rad snowsuits to just tank tops and stripped down plate carriers in the desert levels was sweet

Sort of. Its a good game, like the loop is fun and all, but its a shit stalker game. If you care about any of the lore of the series, its very frustrating to play. its kind of like the new star wars movies wherein there's a strange contempt for any returning characters, anybody you recognize is a retarded loser; all the old factions are washed up losers who are partially replaced insipid copies. And yet at the same time nothing has changed, in spite of the zone being locked down by the UN and most stalkers having official state passports to come and go as they please, its still a big turfwar. I honestly would have preferred it if everyone died in the biggest ever emission before the game started, and have a bunch of entirely fresh factions picking over the ruins with an expanded zone encompassing parts of Belarus and a few inhabited towns (like Slavutych, that would be ironic), because as things are now; is pretty dissatisfying to see everybody treated like like such fools and all of their efforts rendered largely pointless.

Stalkers, in your opinion what is the coziest hiding spot in the Zone? Not the best place for stash or trade, but rather safe heaven where you would be the least worried to put your head to sleep?

For me it's clear sky base. When I've played the CS for the first time I've spent hours in the swamps, clearing all the stashes and eradicating endless renegades. Dunno why, I fallen in love with this location, and the CS base with the bar music, sounds of swamps, wind, guitar, chatter was reward after every raid.
For specific spot I would like to rest my head there, probably the little space above the trader, little noisy with the generator, but at least warm and dry, perfect spot for sleeping bag.

Strelok has seen behind the curtain more so than any other character, he knows the c-consciousness is a crock of shit; so its bizarre to see him simping for it and eventually joining it.
Strider has spent the last decade running his alcoholics anonymous support group for monolithians, then he suddenly relapses, turns schizo and dies. Totally pointless.
Sidorovich, nimble, wolf, valerian, all did nothing like they were frozen in time. Which would be fine if it were the original trilogy where all the events take place in the space of a few months, but its supposed to have been at least 10 years since 2012, maybe longer.
Which also makes it strange what a glow-up many characters had. Wolf is now a youthful neckbeard and Hermann went from a typical pasty nerd to a handsome model that you'd see in ads for turtlenecks or spectacles.
I figure wolf and valerian are there as recognizable fanservice, but they're strange picks for that role because we see wolf leave the cordon in SoC (and die in a campfire), and valerians base was sanitized by the military; so its dubious either of them would be alive and certainly not doing the same shit.
Valerian in particular is sad, because he was actually in the zone long before the first emission; making him one of the most blooded and experienced stalkers around. Nope, just another washed up loser who not even Sidorovich respects enough to keep around.
Which is also true of major Degtyarev, a very experienced stalker relegated to essentially a gate guard. No influence on anything important, getting cucked out of that by Ward, the ISPF and Sircaa.
Duty and freedom are totally irrelevant, freedom not even being anarchist anymore. Myklukas dialog acts like duty are the dinosaurs who cant let go of the past, but freedom seem to have let go so hard that I don't even understand what they're doing or what their principles are; it seems less about open free zone and more pure self-enrichment; more of a trader or bandit faction.

He doesn't. He shows you the shining zone is an illusion. He tells you there's no subtle matter and that anything you see of them is a noosphere echo.

>Strider has spent the last decade running his alcoholics anonymous support group for monolithians, then he suddenly relapses, turns schizo and dies. Totally pointless.
That was beautifully sad and very fitting for a series where transcendental optimists routinely get knocked down. The Zone will never be anything but a neutral force of nature.

It's a bit funny how Sidorovich just sat in his shithole for 10 years. Realistically, he would have made so much money in his position that he'd be living large on the mainland by now. The other guys should have also retired by now. Maybe they just love their jobs?

>major Degtyarev, a very experienced stalker relegated to essentially a gate guard. No influence on anything important, getting cucked out of that by Ward, the ISPF and Sircaa.
Meh. He seems to be doing something that he thinks is important.

>Duty and freedom are totally irrelevant, freedom not even being anarchist anymore.
Duty got what they deserved if they couldn't find a way to kill all mutants and bandits after 15 years. Frankly they all should have joined Ward. Freedom's transition to hand wringing capitalists feels natural. They got lucky with Rostok and human nature took its course.

With such "business" you're usually in a situation where you make money only if you continue working, it's not like he can earn say a billion dollars and retire and live of interest. You make enough that you deem it worth it, but it's not enough to save up and stop doing it without it becoming a problem. This crap happens IRL time after time with small to medium business owners, people in various private practice and even just people working in high paying jobs whom live in expensive places, where they technically make a ton of money, but can't stop running because not enough is getting saved long term to comfortably get out.

>The other guys should have also retired by now. Maybe they just love their jobs?
Often it's not about loving it, it's just about having something to do, having a routine, having a purpose. It's hard for 15-25 y.o. kids to understand, but when you're 30-40+ and don't have a wife, family and kids, most men need something to keep going, often it's their work.

sidorovich isn't just a small business owner like an electrician or convenience store owner, he has monopolized access to the outside for cordon stalkers. he buys their artifacts for like 50 usd, then sells them on the outside for huge sums. most artifacts are extremely valuable to the scientific community, and mamas beads for example has replaced diamonds among the upper class as the biggest flex for fancy jewellery. certainly he isnt the top of the supply chain, there will be other distributors downstream of him making even more; but make no mistake, sid is creaming it.

>he has monopolized access to the outside for cordon stalkers
The cordon not the whole zone, but a small chunk of it. One of the points in S2 is that cordon lost a lot of attention specifically because people were getting a better deal outside of it, so most would migrate to avoid being the retard who sells stuff for $50 after being almost torn apart in an anomaly.

>he buys their artifacts for like 50 usd, then sells them on the outside for huge sums
Knowing similar business dealings IRL, it's not that sidorovich personally gets say $10,000 for that $50 artifact, he gets a big profit percentage wise, but not the whole different, there are always more people in chain and there are always costs associated with dealing with them.

>but make no mistake, sid is creaming it.
Compared to a regular joe? Sure. Enough to comfortably retire and live on interest? Nope.
Like bruh, I've seen this shit personally IRL. On paper you make more than 300% of profit, which is insane for most regular business, but at the same time you have a ton of dead time where you don't make anything and just eat costs, or you spend shit which doesn't play out and so on and so forth.

Sid's power and influence comes not from roping off novice stalkers. What artifacts can you find around the cordon? He pays trash for common artifacts any green can find.
He used to sit at the start of very important trade route, in constant contact with other traders, bringing in gear from the continent and exporting artifacts. He's also your guy if you need exotic tech or components no one else can bring.

Honestly for me it's to large and unpredictable to chill out, maybe on top of that water tower.
In SoC it terrified me.
I remember one time in the village I was getting constant mild psy interference, this type of visual snow similar to one in Yantar. I assumed it had something to do with brainscorcher being nearby or those monolith altars. Having killed all the bloodsuckers and snorks I checked all buildings and decided to talk and trade with stalkers at the fire. But the psy radiation was getting more and more serious so I decided to run uphill and scan the village with binos. And for the split second there was a white box somewhere in the village. Nervous that I missed bloodsucker (those fuckers made me very uneasy) I changed position and scanned once again this time catching a glimpse of controller just vandering the village below. This was a surprise since I've only seen then underground so far. The hunt turned harder than anticipated, controller was on constant move, I went to his last position but he was already gone, and tracking him turned to be harder than I thought because I assumed he would try to go inside one of the buildings, but he saw and attacked me first from behind.
This was easily one of the best fights I had, I remember it to this day.
