This is literally the only firearm I need
Ordinary self defense and wilderness survival/SHTF are the only two firearm uses I care about. Ruger MK4 is adequate for the former and ideal for the latter. There's no reason for me to even own anything else.

If that's what you enjoy, go for it. Rimfire is fine, and if you can actually hit with it you're better off than most shooters. Everytime at the range I see people with some 9mm autoloader pulling 12 inch groups at 7 yards.

It's like a Jap Luger (not the Nambu). Ruger.

I've always focused on long range precision shooting with handguns, because shooting rapidly at close range against large targets just seems too easy and I don't see the point of wasting live ammo on that kind of "practice". I just never felt like that is really helping me to develop a skill. To me, 25 yards is the standard handgun target distance and I expect to keep most 9mm service pistol groups within less than 4" at that range. With the MK4 it's more like 1.5". At 7 yards with the MK4 I could mag dump an opponent's eyeball.

but it is like a Nambu though, the mechanical components of the gun were directly based off of Type 14 Nambus that Bill Ruger took apart and copied in his garage.

25 yard is the best. The only people who shoot closer are unable to group at that range. Moreso with pistol red dots. 25 yards is the ideal range for zero. Very minimal drop at even 100 yards with 9mm at 25 yard zero.

NTA, but I'm very curious where this meme that "22's aren't real guns" comes from. It often goes hand in hand with "you shouldn't spend too much money on a .22 since it's not a real gun".
None of it makes any sense.

All of these tactical YouTube guys shooting human silhouettes right in front of their faces just look dumb. Unless you have to resolve serious recoil control issues, that is just a waste of money. Close quarters shooting is 99% draw and presentation. Once you achieve that, it's pretty hard to fuck up the trigger pull so bad that you completely miss human vital regions at 7 yards. A laser cartridge is all you need for that kind of training. 20+ yards is where errors in the actual firing sequence become meaningful and diagnosable.

You're leaving out the stress and the movement.

Try this. It sounds very easy, but if you haven't trained I guarantee your results will embarrass you, even if you've been punching paper for years.
Set up your target at 25 yards. Walk towards it, just a normal everyday pace. When you get to about 20 yards draw your pistol and shoot as you keep walking towards the target. No running, no rapid fire, but you are not allowed to stop walking, just continuous fire while you're walking.

Now do it quickly.

I do not shoot while moving. I'm either moving as fast as possible into cover, or I'm shooting with proper form so as to strike the target as effectively as possible. I've this saying that goes something like "don't shoot your gun, fight with it". Coming from a background of traditional archery, I absolutely disagree with that philosophy.

Wouldn't the merit of that philosophy depend on what you were intending to do with your gun? Also, how many gunfights have you been in, I'm curious what experience you have to suggest that philosophy is bad.

The same experience you've already described of accuracy going to shit while moving. The bullet is already moving for you, so you should just focus on hitting what you're shooting at. If you succeed then the target can't shoot back, so there's no need to move.
