The infantry models might have been one of the first things they worked on, and they didn't do a good job. I like some enhancements like sounds, explosions, and tracers but not too much.
There are some mods that go too far in changing the models themselves to look like the later ARMA games, or adding fully 3D ironsights, but I don't like it, and then there are some textures that fit the game's aesthetic and also look more appropriate for 1985, and if I can figure out how to replace the default BIS units with those, then I'll be happy. I see it as like playing with a model train set.
But you have to use these special tools to extract these compiled files, and then you have to replace the individual textures, and then recompile them. It's a convoluted process, but I'm slowly figuring it out.

An interesting thing about BIS is that OFP is a childhood fantasy of these Czech guys playing as American soldiers showing up in a fictional version of the Czech Republic to save them in the 1980s. They were good at creating local flavor in the game. That might be why it hit a little different. This is a country that had the experience of a Soviet invasion in the late 1960s.
