Should I get an aimpoint pro or an eotech 512?

Both.

I’ve bought both. While I prefer the eotech reticle, it got returned because it delaminated. Until I am assured they’ve fixed the issue, I’m sticking with the aimpoint.

imho, the aimpoint pro sounds good just because of the battery life

Both are very good optics.
If you plan to run NODs or you have astigmatism, an Eotech.
If you don't, get an Aimpoint they've got amazing battery life and they're borderline indestructible.
If you've got extra cash to spare, get an Aimpoint Comp M5 or M4 instead of a PRO. They have noticeably better lens coatings and they're almost as good under NODs as an Eotech.

>If you ... have astigmatism, an Eotech.
I'm going to chime in and counter this advice. If you have an astigmatism bad enough that red dots aren't effectively usable, it's better to go straight to some form of prism sight.
>with red dots you get sunflare / bloomy reticle.
>with holographic you get grainy almost animated reticle.
There's no clear winning. Prism sights solve both of these issues so it's not something to worry about. I couldn't believe how much better I shot after I stopped chasing a white rabbit and went to prism optics instead of red dots.

Buy the 512 since it's about $100 cheaper than the PRO even though it eats batteries. If you want something with the look of Aimpoint, then SIG and Holosun make clones that are like 1/4 the price and justasgud.

Eotech 512 sucks. I like my aimpoint pro alot. The eotech eats batteries and i swear mine has parasitic drain. Also dont know about how the temperature swings in your neck of the woods but my zero on my 512 shifts probably 8 inches between shooting outdoors in the winter vs summer. Fuck eotech.

They absolutely do in my experience. I would only ever put them on range toys if you like the now-retro styling. I like the 512 for what it is, but it's mogged by modern stuff like the Holosun AEMS at this point.

Depends on the severity, but prk will. It literally melts your eye to the correct dimension. You're awake the entire time with a numbing eye drop applied. Procedure took under 5 minutes.
You could smell your eye being burned.
Worst recovery and pain I've ever been in my life for 4 days after- but completely worth it. I woke up morning 3 and could see my bedroom ceiling without fumbling around for glasses or contacts. Super liberating.

Don't listen to the anons who say that holographic sights are better for astigmatism - they aren't. Your options for countering reticle boom are either to run a magnifier 100% of the time or buy some corrective lenses. Frankly, prescription ANSI lenses for my eyepro were one of the best investments I ever made.

Dumbass, it's just human variability and changes as people age. I have 20/20 acuity (was 20/15 in my 20s) and a mild astigmatism. Not enough to affect my shooting or anything, but my red dots aren't just a dot they're more like a little apostrophe because of it. Some people have a bad one and the dot is a smear.
Anonymous No.64112367
I have absolutely no idea why you'd even consider a 512 today over an EXPS unless you have clone autism.

>>64106665
Why do people keep recommending eokeks for people with ass stigmatism like it's gospel, I used to have myopia+astigmatism and while I could sort-of use red dots (they just became a bit smeared), eotech reticle was just one huge fuzzy blob even with glasses on, literally unusable.

>>64107457
Modern PRK and LASIK can correct astigmatism as long as your cornea is thick enough.
t. had PRK ~9 years ago, been using reflex sights and holos fine ever since

Mine was from 2013. I was able to get a full refund in 2016 when they had the refund program going because of all the issues they were having. It was on a HD rifle that sat in a climate controlled room all the time. I also didn't shoot it all that often. When I heard of the trouble and return program, I checked mine and found it was already gone. They updated their warranty soon after. I suspected it because they knew they didn't have the issue fixed. I thought about getting another, but am glad I didn't because it still seems to have been a problem in 2019.

You really just have to try them. I have the tism and I have had great success with red dots. Eotek will starburst like a motherfucker on me, can't even see what the reticle is supposed to look like. Holosun always works for me. Can't cheap out on an lpvo. Prism is best.

for home defense aimpoint is beter beacuse you can leave it on and it will be ready to go immediately whenever you need it. the eotechs battery life is only like 8 hours so you cant just leave that shit on a home defense gun and would have to waste time turning it on and fucking with the gay brightness settings or whatever bullshit not to mention you would have to log the time carefully when you go to the range or play with it so you know when to change the batterys. the aimpoint only needs a battery change like once every 6 months if you want to be overly autistically safe even though the battery life is at least a couple years.

Anonymous No.64120466
>>64106532 (OP)
I prefer the 512 to the Aimpoint T2 (which is even nicer than an Aimpoint Pro) but it really depends on how much space you have on the gun and what your tolerance for weight is. 512 has better glass quality, a much bigger window and I'm personally a fan of the reticle. They are kinda big and clunky though. I think the battery thing is a moot point because I've had a T2 run out of batteries in 4 months because I left it on a moderate brightness setting of 10 (whoops). I wouldn't touch a 30mm ring red dot with a 10 foot pole in 2025 unless you like doing retro guns, they're just a headache and obsolete

Better read up on all possible side effects and think long and hard if you can live with them the rest of your life. While negative side effects are rare they do still happen. IOL might be the better option since it’s reversible and upgradable later on.
