They were considered a step up from the .38 special revolvers police used to be issued, but in the age of light 9mm's, 10mm's, and .45's they're obsolete.

It’s significantly stronger than 38 spl and 38 is a good round. .357s generally need to be heavier and beefier which limits CCability.

Yes.

If you're going to carry a revolver as a CCW then .38 spc. is as big as you want to go but on the other hand if you can shoot a .357 well and concealment/size isn't an issue (truck/nightstand/shower/bear/etc. gun) then there really isn't much of a reason not to use one because .357 hits like a ton of bricks while the guns are merely "big" as opposed to "massive" in size. Part of the issue that .357 has is that it's basically right at the cusp of practicality; it's not as wild as a .44 mag but not as controllable as a .38 so if you want to be able to quickly put multiple shots on target with a .357 that has a barrel length of <6" then you're going to need a lot of practice. The reason that this is significant is that it means that someone can own a .357 and shoot it well at the range and feel confident but when the time comes to magdump into a bear innabush or a couple of aspiring astronauts that have somehow ended up in his living room at 2AM then accuracy will be somewhat less than desired.

Palworld is the more /k/ based videogame.

It actually has guns the player can use to shoot the monsters themselves.
It also has sexy deer creatures you can pet and take to bed with you.

On paper it's a meme and you should just use 9mm.

In practice higher velocity rounds seem to just kill/stop better, even if they don't reach rifle speeds. If you want a semi-auto 357 look into 9x25Dillon.

Realistically any self-defense shooting (You) may have as a law-abiding civilian will end in two shots or fewer 90% of the time, because criminals have no incentive to engage in a gunfight with you just to steal your phone or whatever. Your first shot is always your most important one. I'd rather have more power than 15 rounds on tap that I will never use.

Both. Part of it is the shotgun fallacy where a low rate of fire and ammo capacity leads ppl to accidentally avoid overkill; i.e. your first shot with either a 12ga shotgun or a 556 rifle would have worked, but with the rifle you can blast a few more shots due to less recoil before pausing to check, while the shotgun has to pause longer before re-evaluating.
Part of it is legitimately being on the upper edge of the pistols just poke holes terminal ballistics zone.

Ammo capacity and ease of use. Even walls of flesh like Chris have a hard time taming the recoil of large caliber handguns.

its really only cost as the limiting factor for dumping 9mm. 200 rounds goes by in a half hour if you aren't careful. Could easily do it all day with any size/weight 9mm so long as you can get a full grip on it, and someone to feed you loaded mags. .357 would start to wear me out, even with a heavier gun to tame the recoil. Even just waving around a heavy magnum all day would start to put a strain on. Imagine being videogameman and having to reload one or two rounds from a revolver after a kill every ten seconds, thats where the real exhaustion comes from

Is .30 carbine the same as .357mag?
Anonymous No.64119043
>>64109231 (OP)
its essentially a 9mm/38 Special on steroids and considering both of those cartridges are quite lethal I'd say yes. Put it in a carbine with a 16-20 inch barrel and you're dealing with a gun that can take out small bears, load it with buffalo bore and it can probably take basically anything that isn't a grizzly.
