Was the shotgun/smooth bore culture in the US up through to the end of WWI more due to bong influences or people being poor?
like by the end of WWI it goes away due to conscripts being trained on rifles and cheap surplus flooding the market (what's fucking crazy is the AEF was almost as big as the total number of union soldiers during all of the civil war combined).
but prior to WWI and all those cheap guns and ammo being dumped on the US market there's a distinct, primary bong style with fouling pieces in places like new england, flat butts, less stock drop, smooth bores and a kraut based culture for the more expensive, but less common guns with curved butts of varying degrees, more stock drop and rifling being more common but not always present and this is more common in areas with large nazi populations like pennsylvania and wisconson
