Ukrainians new "hedgehog" Humvee. Do these spikes even work against incoming drones?

Its been known for a long time forested areas are better against drones. So they have started to put the forest on the vehicle.

If the drone's wings get caught and the detonation fails, or if the direction of the HEAT metal jet is shifted, it's a win.

I find it interesting how they sometimes do this on even thinner skinned vehicles like Ladas. I'd think that if you were to ne hit by an RPG drone it wouldn't be of any help to set it off at ~3 ft from you because the jet will still go through everything just the same. And depending on the warhead (shaped charge or am efp) the jet could even be wider and more destructive at a longer standoff

Clearly they will work. Fpv drones are nothing but toys with plastic propellors ultimately. This could easily stop one or even a couple from detonating correctly.

Explosive bursts of energy always follow the path of least resistance. HEAT warheads work as intended when they're smashed into a target and the path of least resistance for the explosive charge is straight through it. Detonating a simple shaped charge in mid-air several feet from the target isn't going to give it nearly the oomph it would have if it made direct contact, because you have all that open air for the force to dissipate in that stops a forceful jet from forming.

Idead of hedgehog that is drone propeller gets caught on spike first, this turns drone to side and jet misses vehicle completely, or even drone is thrown aside and detonates on the ground.

And I add this is why it is spikes not sheet of metal.
Drones fuzes are two pieces of wire, when they hit target they bend, make contact with waxy other and circuit electric detonation train.
If facing vehicle spikes such wire fuze can pass them without touching and detonation, but larger propellers get caught on spike and that spins drone t sideways

Even if the HEAT jet is not dissipated so quickly the explosion, which is the biggest danger to a ight skin vehicle anyhow, dissipates with based on distance^2

The spikes will catch drone arms and flip them upside down but if you have 2 or 3 wire loop fuses instead of 1 it's still going off.

I think most "cages" aren't meant to counter the jet (a lost cause even for tanks since the 1970s) but to reduce the incendiary and pressure effect of the blast. And of course none of them are slat armor because nobody is using the original fuze of those PG7s.

>Both sides are fucking retarded
We all know that people in the field will try whatever shit they have to protect themselves. We even have the fucking reports of WW2 with add-on armor that weighed down their vehicles and just got them more fucked. They hung fucking logs, placed cement, placed rubber and a bunch of other shit on there and the results were it did fuck all. Same with all these retarded sheds on wheels. After all of this concludes you'll hear some dudes admit they just tried whatever without really thinking about it. You need point defense guns, jammers and/or SIGINT units to target emitters.

I recommend you remove the seatbelts from your car since it doesn't make a difference when you do a head on collision with a truck at 60mph anyway.

>It seems the engineering innovation failed to protect the vehicle.
According to Ukrainian sources the vehicle survived 60 FPV drones and only stopped when it hit a mine. If you watch the clip where it's actually taken out they had to fly an FPV through the open hatch of the abandoned BMP. Spikes are the new meta, spikes will prevent the cowards and the fewls from taking away the metal bawkses.
