Quasi-police entities
what is /k/'s opinion on members of these "not quite a cop" agencies, like railroad cops, tribal police, campus cops, postal cops, sanitation police, etc.

Are they any better than your typical rent a cop? Is it a worthwhile career opportunity?

>postal cops
Don't fuck with Postal Inspectors. They have remarkably broad powers and nationwide jurisdiction.
t. worked with them before, they're right below US Marshals and usually above local police.

It's awesome when they have greater jurisdiction which reflects the fact that they're actually pretty dynamic jobs and also the background of the people who were employed in them historically. They're cool in a paramilitary sort of way, and their workers don't tend to exhibit the antisocial tendencies of cops or attention-seeking jock behavior of many firefighters.

Oh I thought you were talking about mailmen and such. As for campus, airport, sanitation cops etc, IDK, I just remember the 2017 United Airlines fiasco.

>railroad cops
Don't know anything about them.
>tribal police
They try to keep the peace but it's hard when they have no real jurisdiction and have to call the feds if any felony ever occurs in their land.
>campus cops
Glorified security guards.
postal cops
Do not mess with these people; they are feds. They will fuck up criminals legally.
>sanitation police
Don't know anything about these guys either.
>etc.
Etc.

Your list are not all equal things.
Some of them are pretty good, some pretty bad.

Look up "Shomrim" police and your local city.

Yes, they can arrest you.

>In the past, Shomrim organizers in Brooklyn have been accused of withholding information on suspected child molesters and other Jewish criminals, in keeping with an interpretation of the Torah prohibition against mesirah (informing on a fellow Jew to the non-Jewish authorities).

i am not even surprised in the slightest, also they can only do citizen's arrest so you need to be caught red handed for them to arrest you

Postal cops is the most serious one in the list. They deal with criminals on a pretty regular basis. Either folks stealing packages, opening mail, or people using mail to ship drugs or contraband. Its a pretty solid mix of investigative work (because packages are not always shipped right to a criminal's door, but instead put at a drop off, then a package mule takes it to the person) as well as police work in arresting and seizing stuff.
And rarely, every now and again when there's some spat of mail bombs, they really get their work cut out for them.

whenever some lunchtime rowdies rough up a mail carrier to swipe some ss checks, somebody inevitably comes out with this reddit-tier wisdom in regards to what their punishment will be but then mysteriously these powers never manifest. i dont think they do jack shit other than fill diversity quotas

I was a deputy sheriff. Everyone you list is a "real cop" as far as the law is concerned, but most cops don't respect them. We had two Amtrak stations and a college in my area and anytime something even remotely dangerous happened they just called my department for backup.

The thing that blew my mind is that Amtrak is a FEDERAL law enforcement agency. If you're gonna be at an "not quite a cop" agency, be a fed with fed benefits

In a lot of states, state funded/owned university police are essentially state troopers with different uniforms.

They should just abolish them and let the local cops do the job or get private security

Nah grew up in SF projects, one idiot jumped the mailman because "he didn't deliver his welfare check yet". (As if the mailman controls that). Whole neighborhood locked down by Feds the same day. Nobody allowed to leave until the dude was given up. Assaulting a fed isn't a joke.
